Hurricane Irma?

First post here! Been reading since page 18. We are from east TN...originally supposed to drive down Saturday, but ended up driving to our condo in Destin for a few days to see what the weather did. 75 was great, other than the wreck we got stuck in. Stopped once for gas, took about 20 minutes or so, everyone was super kind. Now to sleep and get ready for MNSSHP tomorrow

wow omg some ppl.
1 I wouldn't delete any photo sorry its my equipment it's my trip I can take photos if I want. You are crazy to think no one saw them already. Just crazy.

2. I can understand some cm thinking he was in the right but he was not.

NOW! My only real comment to posters.

Well, if you really want to go there...

According to the timestamp of the "offended persons" post, curfew to stay in your room was still in play.

In any event, this is just silly. The state just went through a hurricane...lets whine about some photos, shall we? (If it's even true!)

WHAT are you trying to say? That she made it up? First off this is a friendly board and some vet posters here will not take kindly to calling other vets liars. I only had to post because I thought your last line was completely out of hand. Also, its late and I'm cranky and could have read this out context but please no one should be questioning a poster's credibility.
That's all thank you and welcome to the boards.

Going (way) back to the point about people being confused why overseas visitors may not have been prepared: we have 75mph winds forecast for today and it's not headline news. The weatherman just said some trees might come down so be careful and that was it. That's one of the reasons many Brits wouldn't have known how to prepare. Unfortunately 75mph winds arestandard here! :sad1:

Not about Disney - but anyone traveling I75 & I10 today or anyone east and south of Destin could you report on the gas situation? My daughter is supposed to drive to Tampa tomorrow and I want to update her on the gas problems. Thanks

I think companies need to be more giving in situations like this.I own a small company in the Northeast When the weather is dangerous to drive, like a snowstorm, I cancel work and pay them for the day off. This is just a small company though, it could be much harder for large companies.

My dad owns his own business and does the same. Sadly, it should be easier for larger companies to do this than for small businesses, although it's been my experience small businesses usually genuinely care about their employees. I'm not sure how many large companies, like the behemoth that is Disney, can say that.

Keep using the gas buddy app. It says what stations have gas and what don't

We have a 9:35 PM flight via Jetblue to Orlando... Website has flight scheduled and On Time. Received my online checkin email last night. Hoping for no issues.

Good luck to everyone traveling in and out of FL for the next couple of days.

I work for a corporate giant and they paid us through Sandy. I wasn't able to go to work for a week and couldn't work from home (no power). I'm grateful for it and I wish other companies would do the same.
People before profits.

Some departments are being paid where I work and some aren't. Basically, if you are a front line, hourly sales person type position, you are only getting paid the hours you work, but if you work in the office (accounting, etc.) you are getting paid WITH the caveat that you have to work from home as much as you are physically able to. They made us all take our computers home (we use laptops instead of desktops) to facilitate this. I didn't lose power, so I was able to do 90% of my work from home. Some of it I had to download, work on it, and then upload again, because of intermittent internet and cellular service, but I felt like I was actually earning the pay. So far no one in my department lost power, so we were all able to keep working.

I think it depends a lot on the positions. If you're an hourly worker who relies on commissions or tips, or who has an irregular schedule, it's harder to get paid without working than if you are an office worker with regularly scheduled hours and tasks. It would be nice if everyone could get paid during hurricanes, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Drove to work this morning from our apartment near Universal to my job in Kissimmee ( I'm a nurse), at 5 am I4 and 528 had no problems, tolls were still waived looked like all gas stations I saw were out of gas...

Also, in regards to employees not being paid when not working, with Matthew, Universal paid their employees, Disney did not. No news with the current hurricane if that will hold true, but personally I think Universal treats its employees better.

Thanks for your answer - we do have the gas buddy app and it shows almost no gas from Tallahassee east and south. The problem I have with gas buddy - if I understand it correctly - it relies on people reporting in so might not be the most current information.

I work for a small business that through the 28 years I've worked here has gone from 11 employees to 100 and now there are two, me and the boss. I was told not to come in yesterday because of the wind and rain here in Georgia. I am salaried for right now (will switch to hourly next year) but accrue comp. time. I won't have the comp time to cover yesterday so it will have to come off my vacation. Even when we were at 100 employees if a hourly employee couldn't get in for weather, they didn't get paid.

I tried calling Disney reservations to pay for my November booking and it is still only taking emergency calls. It asks to please call back Tuesday, Sept 12th. I guess they are too busy to even change the recording. :confused3

Gas is in short supply from Brevard county southward and I can imagine it's that way statewide. Some roads have been washed out, many, many places still without power, etc.

This link seems to have helpful information on the overall gas situation:

It is true that Universal will pay their employees for missing their shift through the storm and Disneyndoes not. My son is full time and works at Universal and yes he was paid for Sunday and Monday even though the parks were closed. My daughter who works for Disney does not. She will be looking for some shifts to make up what she lost. She told me next time she wants to do ride out crew, so she will not miss any wages and because she wants to help keep guests happy.

Would love to hear from a local on this question: how long do you think it will take supermarkets to restock their shelves? Is there a particular chain that is better at keeping stocked?

Part of my group flies in Wednesday and is using a town car service that makes a supermarket stop. Do you think the stores will be stocked with water, beer and non-perishables by then?
In Florida publix is the best at stocking and overall customer support

That's my understanding as well however if I was a gas station owner I would use it too to announce I have it so don't abandon using it still
