Is there usually this much of a price increase each year?

Trying to move my placeholder reservation to a March 2019 date as Gold. Been on hold for over 45 minutes. So it sounds like quite a few still do. ;)
That's because a lot of people like yourself fell there's a benefit to doing what your doing.

That is if you don't like the Dining Room food... DH and I have had excellent experiences there. :D

Actually, I have sailed Carnival and think the food is way better than Disney. So much so that I didn’t try the specialty then as I didn’t feel like paying extra that cruise.

I LOVE Disney. But not enough to spend money I don’t have. I can sail every year on Carnival AND take a trip to DL or WDW each year for less than the price of one Disney cruise. If you have the money to spend on Disney great. Or if you want to save up for it, also great. I like to get away as much as possible though, get too antsy waiting two to three years between trips.

As for Carnival, just my opinions here I know everyone has their own thoughts, I loved the bedding (the fact the beds still separate is good for a single person like me who just travels with friends), the layout of the canin closets and bathrooms are excellent (I really don’t see too much benefit to split baths but some do and that’s fine), Service was better than my last two Disney cruises, the adult serenity area was nicer than Disney’s adult pool area, and they go to way more ports. But I did miss the classic ship feel. Let’s just say Carnivals ships are gaudy after sailing Disney.

As long as people love Disney, as long as little girls want to meet princesses, as long as little boys want to meet Darth Vader, as long as none of the other lines offer the entertainment and family value people are not going to jump ship.
Other cruise lines don't offer family value? Don't tell the 10 of thousands of families sailing other cruiselines that.:ssst:
Yes but kids don't pay for the cruise: parents do.
My son has a friend who is diamond on Carnival. I don't think Disney has ever crossed his parents mind.

Losing money? By the time Silvers and the general public get to book, prices have been driven up by people that are just "thinking" about a cruise. Maybe Disney needs to start with a NON-refundable deposit. Disney knows exactly what they are doing by starting the feeding frenzy around their opening day.

Not a bad idea. And don't allow courtesy holds.

It's been a quite a while since I've seen a cruise go up in price after opening day. That was the first Iceland cruise in 2015. I like the holds it gives you time to think about it. I'm sure Disney has it figured out that a certain percentage of people aren't going to put a deposit down. There is no way I would ever book a cruise with a non refundable deposit.

I really think they are getting close to the "breaking point" in pricing families out though. 3 years ago, I couldn't hardly find any military discounts, let alone even fewer Florida and not even any Canadian. This years there are a heck of a lot of military discounts, a bunch of Florida as well as a couple of Canadian. Heck, even the Magic out of NY had general public discounts as well. The trends has been more and more availability in rooms and more and more discounts. This tells me that the price is on the verge of pricing out all middle income families that are willing to put the whole trip on credit cards. My guess is after next year they are going to start dropping prices again until the new ships come out.

Since I am the one that started this thread I just wanted to let every one know that my actual question was just if that was typical increase in price from year to year or if people thought that this year seemed to have a higher price hike than in the past. I never said that it would deter me from going with Disney. I don't have intentions of going on a different line so if I can't afford Disney I simply won't go. My choice. I was just kind of shocked by the prices. And again yes I know from years past that prices increase each year I just wasn't expecting such a big difference.

Wonder how all of those discounts that were sent to those displaced cruisers is impacting the new sailing prices?

I was one of those that received a discount but those were to be used in 2018 (at least mine was and I assume the same for everyone else). So that shouldn't be affecting the prices of 2019.

Yeah, that one made me giggle too. Especially the entertainment part. I was shocked (in a positive way) by the amount of entertainment --for all the family-- that we found on the Carnival Vista and the list of activities I have for our Anthem of the Seas cruise.

You don't like cruising?
I do like cruising. But I also have other vacations I would like to take. And I love Disney. So if I go on a cruise I would like it to be Disney. I am not against other lines. I have actually only ever been on one cruise, have another one booked for this coming January but only because of the discount we received. All of our family vacations will not be cruises so when we are able to cruise I would like it to be Disney.

My husband and I are booking our second 7 night Eastern Caribbean next December, and we originally had plans for Alaska within the next couple of years. However after the unfortunate news today, I don't believe that will be in the cards for us. We by no means struggle for money, but what Disney is asking is ridiculous.

Prices seem to go up every year, and people moan about it every year.

You don't take other vacations that don't include Disney? All you do is Disney?
