Single Rider Line Experience

I have to totally agree with TSMM ride. We were three and I was going to ride with our son and my husband was going to ride alone. They were placing a little girl around 8 with my husband. I looked at the mother who had another child and I said I have her and we switched. She smiled and thanked me. We have no problems with single rider but I don't think they should have placed that little girl with my husband on that kind of ride.

Once on RnR the person sat in the first seat so I couldn’t get in. The CM forced them to move to the other side. They were also a single rider so not sure why they thought they’d get the car to themselves. Another time the person got in the far seat and pushed the lap bar down on the other seat. Again, the CM intervened.
Yep, had both of those scenarios happen to me as a single rider - interestingly enough it was on RnRC as well! Maybe there's something about that ride that makes people want to ride on their own?

I go where the CM tells me to go. If there is an issue I let the CM handle it. Usually people are fine...some just don't know at first that a single rider has joined their group. Sometimes people will shuffle around their group to change who is sitting next to me (usually if there are small kids), but that doesn't bother me.

I have the photopass now with my AP so I tell everybody to smile & be cheesy wave whatever when we are on a ride with a picture. We all get a good laugh out of it! :thumbsup2

Add me to the list of people who had issues with single rider on RnRC! I was with DS9 and we were using single rider. I always have him go first so the CM told him where to stand, the adult got in and pulled the move where he sat and pulled my son's seat bar down before he could climb in. My son didn't know what to do! I hollered for the CM who went over and the guy REFUSED to let my son in. I was next single rider in line so they ended up pulling my son back in line with me, and then put us together to ride on the next one with an apology for that rude guest. Unbelievable!!

I sometimes wish they would put someone next to me.

When I rode Frozen a couple of months ago the standby line was 90 minutes.

I was through the FP line and at the loading gate in under 15 minutes.

I was directed to the last row of the boat and rode solo in a seat that holds 3-4 people (depending on size)

The two women I had been talking to in line were seated in the row in front of me, also with empty space.

If I'd known how the CM was going to load the boat I would have suggested to my line mates that we board as a trio.

I don't recall how full the remaining rows were but our boat launched with at least 4 empty seats.

How many boats an hour are they feeding through that ride.

How many of them have unfilled seats?

How much shorter could that wait time have been?

I had a similar experience with two separate rides on POTC. Although nowhere near the wait time that Frozen had, I was still given an entire bench to myself while others waited for the next boat.

I remember going years ago as a kid with my family and we all were impressed with how the CMs never sent out a ride vehicle with empty seats if there were people waiting.

They generally do not combine parties on those rides and you will be assigned a row to yourself. I think all of the boat rides are like that. It's just how they do it.

I go solo a lot so am in single rider a lot. I've never had any problems although it has been obvious a few times when I've been put on with teenage boys that they aren't comfortable. I tend to just mind my own business. I did ride NRJ once with a group of women and they really took up the entire seat so the CM shouldn't have stuffed me in there but they did. I'm a small person but was pretty much squished against the side of the car and stuck to the sweaty woman next to me. That wasn't fun.

There are rare times when I can understand not wanting a single rider next to you.

For example in the days before memory maker my family of three would always buy a ride photo on RnRC. One year there was a single rider in the fourth seat and we bought the photo anyway but it is weird to look back and have a random kid in our family ride photo. So if a family is planning to purchase a ride photo and give disney extra money I can understand wanting to leave a seat empty.

My strangest experience with the single rider line.

I was by myself at RnR in the single rider line. There was a group of four 20-somethings ahead of me in line--obviously two couples. So the first 3 members of that group get put into the random fill-in spots. The CM needed to fill in two more spots in the limo and there were no parties of two nearby in the regular line, so she just took two people from the single rider line--me, and one of the guys from that group. We didn't really talk to each other or anything though.

Immediately after the ride was over, I wanted to ride again, so I got back in line. Apparently that group did too, and they got back in line as well. But something was wrong. For whatever reason, they guy I had rode with was angry (or pretending to be angry) with his friends...so he got in the regular standby line, and they all got in the single rider line, close to where I was, but not immediately next to me. So as the lines move forward, the regular line was moving just as fast as the single rider line. That guy got placed in a spot for a limo just as it was my turn in the single rider line...so I ended up riding with him again!

That's far from the norm OP. I've never had that issue, or anything like it.

However, I've had some pretty strange characters sit next to me when I was in the regular FP line and there was an open seat next to me. As a family of 5 we fill up a Test Track vehicle all but one seat. Always interesting to see what we get. You know, "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get" :)

Really? That seems very inefficient. They could get so many more people on the rides if they filled the boats. Especially on something as popular as Frozen.

I wish there were more single rider lines honestly. It saves so much time and is really beneficial for those without kids.

Well, on RnRC specifically, you can end up rubbing forearms with the person next to you due to where the hand grips are placed on the overhead restraint. It can be a little awkward for sure. In that situation, I just go one handed. I hold onto the hand grip with the arm opposite the other person and have my arm closer to them lay next to me by my lap so as not to be touching them.

Well, for most of the boat rides they have such high capacity that it's not an issue, like on POTC. Frozen is a different animal though and I do think they should maximize all available space - Na'vi River too. For whatever reason they don't.

We have never had any problems with the single rider line. The people we ride with have always been pleasant and fun to meet. I rode EE with a teenaged girl from the UK whose party was right behind us in the car and they had never ridden before. They were asking lots of questions and we had a great time. They wanted to know about Pandora as they had never seen Avatar. I told them to do whatever it took to get on FoP as it is such a spectacular ride. I ended up seeing them several times that day in the park and they always said "Hi."
Meeting people
has always been a big part of Disney for me. I always visit with people while waiting in line since we are usually there for a while. Also, on the buses. Cheers!!!!!!!

See with this, I think cast members need to be more aware of certain situations. Nothing against your husband, but an 8 year old girl shouldn't have to ride alone on a ride with a strange man. That's just creating a situation that could cause a lot of problems.

When I went to DCA, they didn't even ask for single riders on TSMM. I had the whole side to myself.

It doesn’t really matter what you “want,” though. If the CM instructs that a single rider is to fill in an available space, the single rider needs to be allowed on. This is especially true for the 3 rides that have a single rider line. If you’re an odd-numbered party, you can pretty well be guaranteed that someone is going to be sitting with your party.

Right. Groupers have a hard enough job as it is (I am continually impressed by them actually), so following their instructions is important. Filling all the seats is also important and nobody should expect to never be seated next to a stranger. That is how the system works. I have never had a bad experience, though I have had a few people give me a weird look about it when getting on at Test Track.

I have found that in Disneyland, they are much more single rider friendly, probably because of so many locals and pass holders and such just popping in for a ride or two. They also have more single rider lines in general, and the people seem to be very friendly in general. That's just my experience anyway. I'll see if my opinion changes after my upcoming solo trip.

Wow, never had that experience. Mainly, families/groups I've been paired with in the single rider line keep to themselves or are welcoming.

The only awkward one was on Primeval Whirl when I was riding solo with a teenage couple. They were getting flirty and kissing before the ride reached the lifthill which was pretty awkward. Not sure if they were annoyed by me in the car, but they didn't seem to care since they were making out.

Not surprising that they were entertaining themselves because there is certainly nothing entertaining about that ride.
Yep, that's right. Saw another opportunity to trash PW and just couldn't resist.
