I love credit cards so much!

Same here. I can’t figure it out. I have to pull up DHs credit report again and double check but I looked at it right before he applied. I waited for the letter, so there is no question.

I hope you can get him approved. My credit report had a card that I was approved for but my approval was a mistake. They are taking it off my report, but I need to apply again.

“There are also some ramblings that direct transfers between Marriott & SPG will end on this April 16th date.”

I’m confused. So what would we use our SPG points for? No airlines, no Marriott hotels...
I guess could use them to book SPG til August, but then what?
The info out there is vague and makes no sense to me.

I was planning to use my SPG sign up bonus for Atlantis, but I won’t have the points in time to transfer them.

I am confused by this too. Should I combine all our points now? Right now DH has the bulk of our Marriott points and I have the bulk of our SPG points.

Is that a good central area? I'm now seriously thinking of booking Costa Rica for next year. I have a Alaska Companion pass
i need to use and 600 in airline credit. i just read on points guy someone wrote don't stay in San Jose it is horrible.

Now trying a decent hotel for points.....
San Jose is a big international airport but not much there I’d do. It’s in the middle of the country. You can go east or west from there to the coast areas or north or south to a national parks.

Yes, yes and yes. So I am not sure where I went wrong.

Hmmm, I kept getting this feeling that I should apply for CIP soon. I just feel like so much is going away so fast. Seems like there have been a lot of biz denials lately, but then they come back and say oops, applied too soon or I am over 5 and I didn't realize it. But yours is different, and it makes me nervous!

I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone on this thread can answer....

1) I have the Disney Visa Premiere that I have been focusing all of my spending on to earn Disney money. After this trip, we're not planning on another Disney trip for awhile, so I don't want to use it anymore and focus my spending on another card (see questions 2&3). I don't want to close the card (or do I??? If I close the card when would I qualify for the bonus for opening the card again?) and I don't want to pay the annual fee. Can I change the card to regular card (the straight 1% and no AF) with a phone call to Chase?

2) I have the SW card, and will be coming up on my anniversary at the end of June. I hear the anniversary miles awarded pretty much negate the AF, so I'm not overly concerned about keeping the card open. We do have some ideas of traveling across the country, so having RR points would be beneficial. Do I use this card as my primary spending card? Or....

3) Is there another card (maybe Chase with UR?) that you would recommend for travel rewards? We love to travel and don't always fly, and we're not loyal to any particular hotel (though I like the Hilton hotels more than others, I'm still not picky). But, we like to go away 3-4 x/year, even if for 2-3 nights. Having travel rewards to apply to any of our hotel stays would make it better (duh!).

Thanks in advance for any advice you all may have!!

1)I would downgrade, not close. Yes you can call to do that. If you want to churn it, you can close it and reopen again, but there has to be 24mths btwn the time you receive the bonus and getting it again. I’d just downgrade for now. But, I like having a Disney card in my wallet b/c it is cute. Lol. I never actually use it except for early access to a special on rare occasion.

2) Wait for the anniversary points to post so you can keep them. Then you have 30 days after the fee posts to cancel and get the fee back.

3)I'd double dip a CSR and CSP if you can meet the min spend. That will get you lots of URs to start. Then you could refer your spouse, if you are in 2 player mode, to double those. Another good option is the CIP, if you have a "business", which we can help you come up with here.

Before you apply, can you share how many card you have opened in the last 24 months...all companies...store cards, authorized users, and credit cards?
For the chase cards I mentioned, you will need to be under 5 cards in last 24 months.

If it helps I got the CIP w/o issue in Jan and DH got his w/o issue last week. :)

DoC just announce there is some kind of event on April 16th, so its possible they will announce it then. SPG points would just be your standard Marriott points. No more transfers to airline, although the flight and hotel package might still be around, some ppl are speculating some changes there.

Someone also posted a guess that there will no longer be categories, but more based on pricings... the only upside to this is no blackouts, the downside is of course, more points to spend. This could be another devaluation idea.
Honestly, if everything plays out the way it does, theres gonna be a lot of SPG rioters. Perhaps Hilton will get a lot more ppl instead haha. Heck, im considering it now.

Mulling over the idea of a Marriott Hotels and flights deal thanks to the impending doom of SPG airline transfers going away much sooner than I expected. I have no idea where I'd want to go much less which airline I'd use to get there. I'm going to start throwing darts at a map soon.

I have points saved up for an Emirates First Class ticket right now that i wanted to use in the future... im not sure what to do with my points now if they go to Marriott. My portfolio will def go down in value. :(

I just do not understand why they are requesting all the info of proof of company if I applied under sole proprietor with my first and last name as my business name and used my ss#.
I only put that I made 1K and that was stretching but I know other people had put 1K as well:sad2:

I love my Chase Sapphire Preferred for this reason. UR points are versatile and transfer to many travel partners. You can also book through the Chase UR portal using your points. $95 annual fee and 50,000 bonus points after meeting the minimum spend of $4,000 within 3 months. Add an AU and you can earn more points. The card offers 2x points on dining and travel. Consider joining the dischurners reddit group if you are not already there. You can find support links there.

There will be no need to transfer between programs if they are all a part of one program.

Has anyone else have this problem before? Should I call and say that I do not have any of the documents they are asking because it is a small “side business”?

That’s not a bad idea. I was going to transfer to AS but partner space seems hit or miss lately. I’d go Emirates if I was certain I can use them before they expire.

I’m in the same boat. Straight transfer or move to Marriott and do a hotel and flight package and worry later about whether or not I’d use the hotel award certificate. Ugh.

I'm wondering all these things too. Should I convert my SPG points to Marriott points this week in case they make any changes to the 1:3 conversion ratio. (What if when they all become part of the same program, the SPG points only become one Marriott point each or one point in a new program?) Should I book a Marriott hotels and flight deal now even though I have no current use for the 7 hotel nights to get my Marriott points safely converted to the maximum number of United miles I can get out of Marriott before anything changes with that program? I was hoping to convert my SPG and Marriott points to United miles only as a last resort if I'm short for our Africa flights that I can't book until late July, but I don't want to end up needing to use the SPG?Marriott points that way and then have a conversion to United miles not be an option.

I went to move UR points from my CIP to CSR and get the following message "This card is not eligible to receive points from you at this time." Anyone know what this means? I have moved points from my wife's CSR to the same card before and it worked just fine.

1. Depending on how long you have had the card will depend on if you should cancel vs change to the no af.
2. I’d wait for your points to show in your rr account then call and cancel the card. You will keep the rr points. (I just did this last month)
3. If you are under 5/24 and haven’t applied for any cards in the last 30 days I would go for the CIP. Then use plastiq to pay any bills that don’t accept a cc. Think loans, Mortage, tuitions, etc. Then wait at least a month and double dip CSR and CSP. This would give you the most UR. Having the CSR you can redeem your ur at 1.5x
Can’t remember if you are part of the dischurners group, if not join and use a link when applying for any of these.

im pretty sure the conversion will stay the same. if not, you should have the chance to transfer to another airline. If they do this, im 2000% sure SPG loyalist will switch to Hilton.

These are pretty much my two options too. We do fly Alaska itself from time to time being in the Pacific Northwest, so I could do that transfer and take advantage of the 5,000 point bonus when transferring 20,000. Or should I do the hotel and flight package to get the points converted to United in case I need them for Africa, and not worry about whether I even end up using the hotel portion of the package?
