Life After Marathons: A Running/barre3/Coffee/Life Journal

So much planning already! I love it!! I have zero game plan as of right now. I think because it doesn't feel real to me yet since they pushed back registration. :headache:

I think that being registered through a travel agent definitely makes it feel more real because I have a spot reserved, even if I haven't registered yet.
...but most of these plans were made months ago when I bought the skirt. And I'm sure everything but the skirt will change between how and January. And the skirt might even have to change if I dont stop eating...

That RT long sleeved top is SO cute!

I know, I love it so much.

I will only go to AK to ride EE and then leave. Least favorite park on the planet.

I could take or leave EE.
I do liek Kiliminjaro Safaris, though. That gives me my animal fix for the trip.

I’m crying right now....

Poor Ryan, we keep breaking your heart with our AK dislike.

Think of it this way: I am one less person standing in the way between you and Pandora.

Ha! I love it!

Even without Pandora it’s my favorite park. I’d spend multiple days there. There is so much detail and immersion. I know everyone is different though.

But all the parks have detail. And most of them have fewer birds that could potentially poop on me (I've had some very bad bird experiences in my life).

I know everyone is different though.
Very true. I would much rather go to Disneyland and DCA over WDW. To each their own.

Hahahahaha. Right after we had Bay, we ventured out to a park and I got pooped on by a bird and if I didn't have a baby with me, I wouldn't have had baby wipes to clean it off me. I will forever thank Bay for existing in that moment.

I always say that WDW is my favorite vacation spot, but Disneyland is my home. Every time I feel like my life is going nowhere, I think about moving to LA, getting a Disneyland AP, and spending most of my time at DL while I figure out my crap.
I haven't done it yet, but it's always a thought.

Yeah, one of the advantages of having a young child is that you're carrying around all sorts of useful stuff.
Thankfully, despite being childless, I still carry half of that stuff around with me because I'm weird (although ... I dont really carry baby wipes. I probably should).

I look at houses for sale in Anaheim far more often than I care to admit. I would love to live walking distance to DL with an AP in my hand. I also constantly look at Disney jobs, but that would mean actually committing to moving to Cali and while I LOVE Cali, traffic there is horrendous.

Yeah, the traffic is one of the things that always scared me. Especially because I'd have to learn to drive, and then be a new driver in that traffic. And since I was looking at LA (Anaheim doesn't have the religious community I need), I'd be sitting in 1.5-2 hours of standstill traffic to get to DL.

Yes they do however I find AK has the most detail. If you don’t I suggest following Disney imagineer Joe Rohde on Instagram. He goes in depth explaining the detail of AK.

I’ve never had a bird poop on me but it happened to my dad in MK.

And I’ve never been to DLR so I can’t comment on that. I’m sure I’d love it though.

You should go.

Yeah, I used to follow Joe Rohde on Instagram, but then I stopped. Interesting info, but I dont love his personality.
At the end of the day ... I like the details, but they're not why I'm there. I go for the emotional connections to the things I love, which I find more in the other parks, so the amount of detail in a place like MK is enough for me because I have that emotional connection. But if you're in it for the details, AK definitely has the most detail. Except Harry Potter might have more, but that's not Disney.

My sister had a bird poop on her at Universal. It can happen anywhere. There are just more birds at AK.
Birds are the worst.

I really need to get to DLR but its just so much easier to get to WDW. Someday soon...

I can agree with that. I will probably be spending a lot more time at DHS when Star Wars opens.

Birds are the worst.

Anyway...
I'm trying to figure out my plans for tomorrow.
Option A: Run before work, running store (to pick up insoles) after work
Option B: Run before work, library after work
Option C: Sleep before work, run to the running store (in the shoes that need insoles) after work

I usually prefer running before work, but the idea of running in a new setting (even though my Garmin will hate it) is tempting...
EDIT: Forgot to mention, weather will be high 40s in the am and 70s in the afternoon. So ... no good options for the weather (although since I layer, colder is probably better than warmer).
Decisions are the worst (well, the second worst. Birds are the worst.)

I love the shirts and the skirt, but I would not wear shirt 1 with the skirt. Polka dot overload.

@rteetz I’ve got your back with AK. I love that park with the exception of the carnival area of Dinoland. They did a great job with Dinosaur and The Boneyard so the rest of the land just baffles me.

AK: We did a half day the one and only time we've been to WDW and enjoyed it. I'm planning a full day for our next trip. Not my favorite of the parks, but more than a half-day for us.

Here's the thing about traffic in LA: People there don't like getting up early. Especially on weekends. I lived there for six years. And I had an AP. We could make it from our house in west LA to DLR in about 45 minutes. Of course, if we went at peak times, holiday weekends, etc., we were looking at over an hour. We just went to DLR over the holidays with family that lives near Pasadena and we made it in under an hour, no traffic. We just left early, around 7:30 AM.

My issue with LA isn't the traffic (it sucked, but you get used to it). It was the cost of housing.

It is kind of a polka dot overload. But if I choose that shirt, that's what I'd be going for. Minnie does wear a full polka dot dress ... I just have to decide if that's too much polka dot for me.

But that's the point! It's supposed to look like a crappy amusement park.
I kinda love that it's so bad that it's perfect for the theme.

I get that. I dont feel the same way, but I get that many people need more time there than I do.

Fair point. Early means less traffic.
But going home can still be rough.

Cost of housing is definitely high, but it's actually not that different from NY. I haven't really started digging into housing here, but I think that what I'm expecting to pay here is fairly similar to the apartments I was looking at in LA (I was looking at the Pico robertson/Beverlywood area, like right off of Pico and I'm probably going to be looking Upper West Side here)

Pico/Robertson is a nice area, I used to drive through there all the time for work, and my SIL lived there. I especially liked it because it was easy to get to places surrounding it using streets instead of freeways. I've got a friend renting a 2/2 condo a little further west for a little over $3k, so probably comparable to NY, and the place in LA is probably a little bigger in terms of square footage.

I get that. I dont feel the same way, but I get that many people need more time there than I do.

I think I'd be more in your camp if I didn't have a two year old who really liked it and could interact with more there than she can at, say, HS.

Yeah, adults-only is definitely a different set of priorities than traveling with kids.

Coffee talk: we have "espresso" machines at work. I use the word lightly because they're the little pouches of coffee/espresso/hot chocolate/milk powder, and I've never found them to be very good. Well, today I found a recipe for a chocolate espresso latte from the machine and it's giving me life right now. I'm not sure if it's actually good or if it's just good because I'm sleep-deprived and am desperate for a jolt of energy. I guess I'll test again tomorrow, when I'm (hopefully) better rested.

Interesting... sounds good, but little pods can be decieving. You'll have to report back tomorrow and let us know how it is the second time around!

In me coffee news ... I made my first batch of cold brew of the season last week, so that's what I had this AM. Cold brew usually lasts me 3-4 hours... I was done with my coffee a little after 10 (I made it a little after 8). It's one of those days.
I have a coupon for $1.99 medium or hot latte at DD, so I'll head out there in a little bit to get me an afternoon latte.

Even though you don’t like AK I’m glad you get it ;)

By the way ... Paradise Pier was the same way. People complained that it was the same as any amusement park you'd find on the California coast ... which was the point. It was meant to pay homage to that part of California's history.
