*** The Official September 2018 Thread *** let's get started to have some fun

Right. That's exactly what I posted. :)

Potential tropical cyclone just formed in Caribbean headed to Gulf.
"Regardless of development, this storm could produce enhanced rainfall across...Florida into early next week"

I think the USA Today story was truthful. Their sources were real.

The NHC's now issuing advisories on what is likely to become (at least) Tropical Storm Florence, starting earlier than usual since it looks like it may have some impact on the Cabo Verde islands: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at1+shtml/144600.shtml?cone#contents

It's still too early to make any conclusions about potential US impacts (or impacts on @ILoveMyDVC 's family's travel), but, right now, it's looking likely that this will stay out to sea and not make US landfall at all.

Check the map. New one - much closer

There are 2 different systems.

My local meteorologists have been tracking the one closer, because it affects my region.

They don't expect it to be anything other than a rainmaker.

Well, crap.

All the USA Today story said was that hurricane season will ramp up in September—which, well, duh. That's not a surprise. Their sources are the same that any news outlet has access to.

There likely will be lots of stormy weather over the next month+—major hurricane that effects Orlando? Not so likely.

This quote is so non-committal it really doesn't say anything at all:

One storm could spin up in the Caribbean over the next few days and affect Florida over the Labor Day weekend. Looking further ahead, "there is the potential for two or three tropical features spinning over the Atlantic by the second weekend in September," AccuWeather meteorologist Dan Kottlowski said.

It specifically said storms this weekend and next with valid scientific reasons. I get it - easier to ridicule than accept the possiblity .
Conditions are perfect for formation close by - and they were right.

Come on, I didn't ridicule you. Of course it's a possibility there will be storms. However, they still say: It's too early to predict exactly where or when any storm might form or whether a storm will affect land areas.

The likelihood of a major hurricane disrupting Orlando is low.

I'm not really concerned about a hurricane. I just don't want days of rain, ha! However, I'll make it work no matter what happens and enjoy my time!

It has felt like some people are "shooting the messenger" here a bit... let's remember that this is a discussion board and people can voice their concerns here.

No one is shooting the messenger. Discussion is a two way street—one person states their opinion, other people respond with theirs, respectfully! :)

ETA: And I know all we all want is to get down to the most magical place on earth safely and have the best trips possible! I definitely understand being worried when there’s a perceived threat that could take that away!

It is always low on any given day. Same as a car accident. If i have to change plans, it will be a thing. Every hour in advance I have makes a difference. Haven't seen my DD in over 2 years. Her schedule is notflexible. I can endure rain. I can drive to Florida if I have to. I could just reschedule. She can't.
For months she hasn't wanted to play countdown like we do here because she was afraid something would stop the trip.
She needs this trip.
Sorry if I am edgy about it

Hey, I completely understand feeling edgy and pinning such high hopes on a trip that it feels like it’s inevitable the other shoe will drop.

I can’t imagine what it’s like not seeing your daughter for that long—saying lots of prayers for no impactful weather and for you all to have a wonderful trip as scheduled!!

It’s been so exciting seeing all of the Food & Wine posts and pictures on social media today!! We have pretty much all of our snack credits devoted to snacks in the booths, although I can’t decide how much to budget toward the drinks?! It seems like a much better value to grab drinks in the WS QS locations. I couldn’t believe the $11 moonshine at Flower & Garden was roughly the amount of a shot with none of the punch!

I'm in the same boat trying to figure out budget for Food & Wine without dining credits. There's so many good options I might have to drop an ADR to up the budget

I know this isn't actually helpful, but every time I look at Food and Wine beverage prices, I'm kind of thankful I don't drink. That stuff's expensive, and it's always in little tiny cups.

Question on a sort of tangentially-related note (doing a bit of Food and Wine planning)-- does anyone know if Sommerfest (QS snack stand in the Germany pavilion, the one with the brats and nudel gratin) still gives out large cups if you ask for water there?

Oh man..I've been drooling over F&W posts all day! The frozen mimosa from Shimmering Sips looks so good. As does the Fritto Misto from Italy. And the quesito from the Caribbean booth.
Basically everything, haha. So many snack credits will be used that day..and a small chunk of cash on alcohol :drinking1

I don’t drink and even I’m thinking of getting the frozen mimosa! Especially after DFB’s review!

Y’ALL.
IT IS OFFICIAL.
We are on our way to Disney! Driving as we speak. Well, hubs is lol! I am way too excited and this 2 week trip is so needed. We’ve been in and out of hospitals for 2 years since my son was born premature. Doctors haven’t been able to figure out what’s wrong. He has anemia, a bleeding disorder and he’s not growing. Well, test results came in and it looks to be kidney disease. :( There’s not a whole lot for them to do right now and they okayed our vacation but we will start a treatment plan when we get back home.

Anywho, hope everyone has a wonderful trip! And maybe we will see some of y’all there. :)
