*** The Official August 2019 thread ***

We are super excited that we will be there for the opening. Thought we would have to wait a couple of years to see it, and now we don't. We already have a fantasmic dining package scheduled for the 30th. We will prepare for the craziness, but that will be part of the fun. DD already said she needs to save more money for souvenirs.

I am thinking that this also means the skyliner system will be up and running by June/July because of this news along with all the testing being done at such a rapid pace.

Agreed that the runaway railway being open around then too would be awesome. we are actually more excited for that than star wars.

We are going the 16th-24th and I am thinking the same things you guys are. We definitely are not changing the dates, but I am wondering if people going the same week as us will be moving a week later now to see star wars. But also wondering will the people the week after us move back a week to our week to stay AWAY from star wars. Either way i dont really care, just more of my curiousness of human nature and what people will end up doing.

And to be honest, as an AP, I kind of hope there is a preview maybe at the end of our trip so I can get a peak, otherwise I probably wont see it again for a while.

We are leaving on the 29th and have our Hollywood Studios day planned on the 28th. I’m wondering if I should keep it or move it? My DH would like to see the land *if* there was a soft opening going on. I can’t push our stay back any later as I need to get back to set up my classroom before school starts.

Our dates are Aug 24-Sep 1. This announcement stressed me out big time! Can't change our dates, so will just avoid HS. Wish I knew if the other parks will be more crowded with people choosing that week to go.

I can offer one data point on crowds for that week. Pop had no rooms left for the Sun and Fun offer 8/18-8/21 for the last two weeks. When I checked tonight, there are rooms (only preferred). I assume that means some have canceled.

We have similar dates! We have a 6 night package with tickets + free dining at BC Aug 25 - Aug 31. We also have 2 nights at AKL Aug 23+24, and were planning on having Aug 24 be a resort day at AKL before our 6 days of parks started (we will be coming off of 4 or 5 days at Universal). I spent ages trying to plan out which parks we'd do on which days, so that I was ready to book our ADRs when the booking window opened. I was feeling pretty darn happy about my plans, feeling like it was all coming together! Now, I'm more than a bit thrown!

We had hoped that coming at the end of August would be lower crowds, and especially given that Star Wars land wasn't going to open until later in the fall, we thought we were going to have a nice quiet visit. Now we'll be at BC during the opening! Yay, we are staying walking distance to HS. Boo, it will be a total zoo, possibly for the whole time we are there!

I had planned Aug 26 as our HS day, but also have dinner reservations at Sci Fi Diner on Aug 29 (couldn't get one for Sci Fi on Aug 26, plus we're doing a 1 pm lunch at Mama Melrose for Fantasmic! tickets so probably won't want much dinner). I had thought on Aug 29, we'd have a slow day, since MK is open until midnight on Aug 28 and we were planning to stay until the end. So we booked Cape May Cafe character breakfast, and thought we'd check out a water park, before coming back for that dinner reservation at Sci Fi Diner in HS. Who knows if we will even be able to get into the park for that dinner reservation! However, if there is a chance of getting in to see any of Star Wars land, my SW-mad kids and DH will want to go and check it out! So I don't know what we're going to do for those last 2 days we are there. Keeping plans as is for now, but who knows!

We had DHS planned for our last park day on 8/28, and now the big opening is on 8/29...oh boy! Once again I am blindsided by Disney . That said, this announcement has caused a bit of an uproar at our house. The excitement of being a part of opening day is enticing, and I am tempted to extend our stay an extra day, but after recalling the mayhem of Pandora's opening, I honestly don't think I am brave enough to survive the insanity, and never ending lines. I'm pretty darn sure there will be people pulling into the DHS parking lot before the sun comes up. :sunny: I know I will never hear the end of this :crazy2:.

We will be there 8/18-8/25!! We are planning on MNSSHP on the 20th. I booked an ADR at Chef Mickey's for late lunch before heading into park at 4. Thought this would be most convenient. I'm wondering if there are better options? Any thoughts?

A late lunch and then walking over from the Contemporary sounds good to me. :)

We had booked a bounce back discount for August 24th to 29th. When I found out about the Star Wars opening, I quickly called and was able to add two more days to our trip. There is no way I want to venture over to DHS opening day, so I was really glad that we could extend our trip a little. :)

Joining in here. We were booked August 31-September 8, until the announcement yesterday. Opening week of Star Wars plus the holiday sounds like nothing I want to be a part of. So just switched to 18th-26th at AKL.

We actually were booked August 31-8th and switched BACK to 18-24 to miss it. :rotfl:

My dates are 8/23-8/31 so we’ll be there for SWGE. Since hearing the announcement, I’ve gone through different stages. First disappointed that it will be more crowded when I was banking on low crowds. Then I was excited that we get to see the new land. Now reality has set in & I know that my family couldn’t wait in the massive lines to see the land or ride so we won’t be going to HS after the 28th. I can’t even fathom what opening weekend will be like. We thought about trying to go in the 31st but I think we’d be lucky if the line was only 3 hours long & my kids can’t even wait that long. If there was a fast pass like Pandora than we would have tried that.

I re booked our flight and we are keeping our dates as scheduled 8/21-8/28. Hoping the crowds aren’t too bad and the GE people don’t start showing up til our last day. I’m sure it won’t help that we are staying at YC so walking distance to HS I’m sure the resort will be fully booked. Just gonna do one HS day 8/24 and then avoid that park and hope for the best. It’s not ideal but wasn’t worth canceling or moving the whole trip and losing our ADRs.

Our dates are 8/29-9/7.
Not gonna lie, my eyes about bugged out of my head when I read the SWGE opening date.
Just not quite sure how I feel. It's kind of exciting, but it sure changes the whole trip!
We're not going to change our dates, and we're just going to hope for the best. Luckily, we were already going for a somewhat more laid-back trip, so if we end up doing more pool time, resort-hopping, etc, that's okay.

I can bet all the parks will fill. Anyone with a park hopper will see the chaos at DHS and hop over to another park.

Also keep in mind Aug 13 - 19 is Gay Days in Orlando. This event usually gathers a crowd of 150,000, with about 50,000 guests going to the parks on designated days. This years dates are:

Thur 08/15 - Animal Kingdom
Fri 08/16 - DHS
Sat 08/17 - Magic Kingdom
Sun 08/18 - Epcot

That’s when we will be there. I’m wondering if this will week will become even busier now?
