Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

I think the difference is they’re taking away a form of transportation that the majority of people are comfortable with (bus service) and that’s always been available to Pop and replacing it with a form of transportation that does leave a chunk of guests who are unable to ride due to phobias. While many people avoid the monorail for various reasons when they can, many people just simply cannot get into a small enclosed bucket. You just really cannot compare the monorail (similar to a bus) to the gondola. I would think if you don’t have those problems, it would be difficult to understand. I don’t love the monorail, but I can ride it. I would have a full blown panic attack on a gondola.

I’m sure most guests will be thrilled by the gondolas and I’m happy for them. If bus service goes away altogether at Pop, I’ll probably opt for Uber or Lyft, or I may choose to stay somewhere else.
Great points.

I suspect there will be "limited" bus service of some kind because of the "nature" of Gondolas.

But if they continue to run the same number of buses at the same frequency, what was the point of building Skyliner unless they are just planning on increasing room rates to cover the entire cost.

The whole point of Skyliner is that it is better for the environment and more economic than buses.

Oh, I definitely think if they continue the buses to Epcot/HS it will be reduced service/shared buses. And I think the hope would be to get rid of the buses from Pop/AofA to those parks altogether. But I don’t think it will happen immediately. I think they want to test the waters a bit to see what bus lines look like once the gondola opens. I mean if there are still lots of people waiting for buses continually throughout the day, they will probably be less likely to put a complete stop to bus service.

I’m secretly hoping buses will continue as is with awesome, quick service and the gondolas were built as another option to further discourage people at resorts from driving their car to the parks, in order to reduce traffic........But I know I’m wrong about this. :rotfl:

Well, they do have a precedent for duplicate transportation. WL has boats and buses to MK. So it could go either way. Buses are flexible enough that they can be added during busy times and removed when volume is less.

Since we love POP so much, and it is our preferred resort, it's super exciting to have another form of transportation. No waiting in line, how great is that! Since it's so easy to walk to the bridge from anywhere in POP, no matter what building you're in, this is so super cool! I just hope it doesn't dramatically increase demand and make getting a room more challenging. We aren't going this year, we are doing DLR instead, but the following year it's back to WDW for sure. I hope everyone has a great stay!

I truly believe you will still be able to get a bus from Pop to EPCOT or HS without a ridiculously long wait, even after the Skyliner opens. Yes, the point of the Skyliner is to reduce the need for buses to those parks from Pop (& the other resorts), but I don't think the Skyliner project is just to reduce the current need for buses, but also to keep the need from even climbing higher with the addition of so many more resort rooms AND the new lands/park improvements to EPCOT & HS. So in the beginning the Skyliner may only reduce the bus needs at Pop a certain amount, but I'm sure Disney hopes it will continue to reduce the need in time as more people who like the Skyliner choose Pop (or the other Skyliner resorts) and more people who like Pop decide the Skyliner's pretty cool after all, even if they were hesitant at first. :)

I am in the group that believes Disney will continue to run buses to Epcot and DHS once the Skyliner opens. That may change but in the beginning I believe both options will be available.

What I don't see happening is what I've highlighted above. There is no possible way that Disney will continue to run buses at the frequency that they currently do (especially at park opening and close) as right now their service is amazing!! When we were at Pop in December I counted 5 Epcot buses arrive, fill and drive away within a 12 minute period. (Similar was happening for the other 3 parks but I didn't count actual numbers as I was in the Epcot line so that was what was important to me at the time.) We needed to wait for the next bus and it arrived within about 7 minutes of the 5th bus pulling away. My guess is that it was the 1st bus I'd seen returning after dropping guests at Epcot.

All this to say that I believe yes, there will be buses to Epcot and DHS when the Skyliner first opens but that they will arrive 1 at least every 20 mins and more often if needed, not at the frequency they currently do as there will not be the need for that.

Checking into Pop today! I did the online check-in, but we won't arrive until after midnight. When I looked at MDE this morning, it shows my active reservation (including bus times), but so far there's nothing about room number. Will I get a text about our room number? Will it appear later on MDE? Thanks!!

You should receive a text or email and MDE should update but....sometimes that doesn't happen and you need to check in at the desk. Since you're not arriving until after midnight though I would be surprised if you were not notified. Keep checking occasionally and at some point you should get something.

Did you enter an anticipated arrival time? If you did and it's later in the day, I think those rooms get cleaned later so you may receive your notification later than others. Are you using MDE? Not sure if room reservations coordinate arrival times with flights via DME?

Awesome! Thank you! Yes, we are using DME, so it could be possible that it will be ready later. I was a little surprised that MDE seemed to already recognize we were there, but it may just be typical for arrival day. I'll be anxiously awaiting the text/email/homing pigeon today! Flight doesn't leave until 9 tonight so excitement will reach new heights by then!!

Staying at pop for the first time in ages and I have a few questions so I know what else to pack.

1- Do the disposable coffee cups have lids? Or roughly what size are the cups? I know this is silly but DH likes his coffee to go, and doesn’t want a refillable mug (and I’m in the habit of putting a lid on anything I can with my 2 yo on the loose)
Yes, the disposable coffee cups that are provided in the rooms have lids. They are like what you'd see at a gas station. I'm not sure how much they hold but it's probably around 16 ounces

Can you check in really late? Like 11 or maybe even midnight?
Yes, you can check in any time. The check in desk is staffed and open 24 hours

Seeking information about the scavenger hunt at POP! Century... is this still available? How much time would you schedule for this activity? Going in May with our best friends and their 3 kids, ages 9, 11, and 14. Thanks!!

DD did it in November. You just ask a CM at the check in desk for a map. It doesn't take a lot of time, just one loop around the resort, so at a very leisurely pace maybe 30 minutes at most?

Thanks for that! I know it seems like a ridiculous question but for standard sized coffee cups, I could have brought a few lids from home to appease DH. If they have lids already I won't bother. 16 ounces should be enough coffee for the first round of the day.

As someone who heavily relies on multiple cups of coffee, especially at Disney, this is not a ridiculous question at all. LOL

I run on caffeine and sarcasm, I hear you! I joke that we need a refillable mug because the promise of more coffee on the way is all that lures me out to the bus stop!
