We live 6.5 hours from Disney (Georgia), which is why we have the AP- We do make excuses to go all the time, for example- we got every passholder magnet this year already (and will continue for the future ones later in the year).

So as soon as it announces and probability of getting a invite is successful- we are there.

yes - anyone can sign up for the event - actually you still can (it's just the Pandora party that is sold out)! To register for the overall event is $35 and that gets you your credentials and access to the auction and the live podcast taping. There are other smalle events that will have signups starting on July 1st that will have a small fee (that will go to benefit Give Kids the World)

This is the link to the thread with *Un*Official events - which is largely people just organizing things they wanted to do - we will have a welcome party and various pre-parties before the Pandora party and lots of other things:. The first post on this thread has a summaries schedule of events that are set so far:

Awesome! Thanks. Not sure how I missed the Pandora party being announced. Would have been a great thing to sign up for I'm sure. I'll have to be on the lookout for future events like this since we are moving there.

I guess we are closest to #2. We got APs because we are Star Wars fans. I literally have been waiting to see what Disney announces for 1) AP room discounts and 2) how they are going to deal with SWGE crowds, and 3) if there is a way to guarantee entry, *before* making any firm plans. I'm looking at flying down just for this for just a day or two over a weekend and don't care if the date is next week, or next month, or later in the Fall, as long as it's an easy experience. I figured I wouldn't book anything until after the reservation period is over at DL on June 24th.
Ya .. I took the jump for APs during our Nov. 2018 trip for a 1-2 punch (check out TSL in 2018 and SWGE in 2019) in hopes I could "catch" the opening of SWGE and thus just be able to go down last minute whenever it opened. I was pretty much resigned to the fact that I would just miss it based on previous estimates (of late November/early Dec). My daughter is also 2 years old until mid-October, so having to pay for 1 less AP .. I felt this was the best time to give it a shot.

It has worked out .. as I was able to just meet up (somewhat last minute) with my sister's family in March for their Spring Break trip ..and being able to potentially jump down their in August for a preview? Even better.

Good time to get an AP, but at the new prices, probably the last time for a while. Adding a 4th AP for my daughter, plus $225 for each of the rest of us? Just plenty of other things to spend vacation dollars.

The longer they wait to announce it .. the less crowded (and snatched up) the reservations will be. I am sure there is a large percentage of the Platinum (and above) Passholders that simply do not have the time to zip down to Orlando with less than 2 months notice.

No idea the amount of Platinum Passholders that are out there .. but I wonder .. what percentage of them do we think are:
1) Interested in going at all (not interested in Star Wars or have no plans to drop everything to go)
2) Interested, but able to make those last minute plans to go
3) Even know that it may be happening (I mean not EVERY passholder is in the know like we are here).

(Though .. that being said .. the people who can afford (time and money wise) APs, probably have the disposable time/money to do last minute things like this).
Also - there is probably many AP that already have trips booked to see the grand opening. Would you switch trips to go to the preview? I guess, maybe - if you can change flights - but if you can't... I can only go over certain dates - I'm a teacher that will be starting school the week of the opening.

Easy for me to say being in a major hub, but when faced with relatively quick travel decisions like what could potentially be in play here, one phrase always runs through my mind: "Delta's ready when you are..." :-)

I have 7 major hubs to leave from thankfully. Furthest 2 hrs. 2 with direct flights so I’m not worried. What I’m worried about is a DVC room. Even if just for 2 nights. Only way my wife will even think about doing this. No way she is going to fork out for a flight and a room for a few days when we r here now and coming back for Easter. I got an interesting look when we came off slinky and said we might have to come for a few days in a month or so. Haha

Just based on averages alone, you've got to think non-local APs are going on at least 2 week long trips a year. So any given week, roughly 4% of all platinum holders are there. Since this is a 2 week period (possibly) that bumps it to 8% of people. Then you have the overlap where people will be getting there on the 1st or 2nd day of their trip as the previews are ending, or leaving on the day after previews start. I think you're look at at least 15% of non-local platinum passholders being there. Now I have no idea what % of platinum passholders are local vs not. I'd think local APs would make up the largest percentage of people who are able to attend.
The one thing that doesn't factor into this equation, if you're taking 2 week long trips to disney a year, you're most likely more than a passive fan. Those enthusiastic fans (me included) are more likely than the average person to be willing to schedule a trip around a preview like this. In my head I say why not I don't need to pay for tickets!

4. Those of us that already have a trip during the potential dates

I guarantee this will be me. I don’t have a huge interest in going, but my BIL and sister, who are going with me would have. Unfortunately for them they are Silver, so no go. So the least interested person could go solo, and the most interested could wait outside. Fun!

I guarantee the previews will fall at least partially during my dates, since I will be leaving WDW exactly one week prior to the official open. The best laid plans . . .:(

We're attempting Disney World land opening 3 of 3, so we are currently booked for the grand opening as APs but we will not switch if we are able to get the preview. Possibly add a weekend trip if the preview falls on a weekend or just skip it and wait during opening day and take advantage of being on property when they open EMH for HS.

Does anyone watch the AP Facebook page? It looks like they update with special opportunities fairly regularly. Do we think this is a place they would announce the preview and post a link?

They will probably post something there but it may not be right away when they go live so I would not rely on that.

If I am lucky enough to get selected for this, will I be able to make the reservation for everyone in my traveling party? We are all AP holders. They are added in my Friends and Family list and I can see all of them. I just do not see their AP's. Just mine.
