Does anyone have firsthand experience transferring money from PayPal to a Chase account? I know Chase can be weird locking accounts with ACH transfers and didn't know if a couple hundred from PayPal from time-to-time would also cause an issue?

When I sell on eBay, buyers pay me via PayPal, which I immediately transfer to my Chase account, several times a year. No problems.

Surprise! I don't actually "spend on each one." I think the conventional wisdom to spend on your Amex cards doesn’t necessarily mean spend on each one. If you have one or two, yes it probably matters that you spend on each one, especially if your cardmember history with Amex isn’t long. But if you have 5 or 10 Amex cards, it’s probably okay if you spend heavily on a few and have little or no charges in some months on others. I’d say, if we’re not working on MSRs from other issuers, Amex gets more than 3/4 of our spend across various cards — not necessarily evenly, which given the high cost of living around here is substantial.

I don’t have any inside knowledge of Amex’s pop up algorithms, but I think spend is kind of a balancing act. In the first year, I definitely spend on each one, but once I pay an annual fee I ease off a little. I always try to justify keeping an Amex card beyond the first year. If I can get a decent retention offer, that might do it. Ongoing anniversary benefits like FNCs also help justify keeping a card. I haven't spent on my Bonvoy Biz and one of my Bonvoy Amex in a few months, but again I've paid annual fees on them and justify their value with their FNCs. During that time, I’ve been approved for two more Amex cards with no pop up. I put expensive purchases on my Plats for purchase protection and extended warranty. I add Amex Offers that I’ll use to my Plat and Biz Plat so they get some love despite earning only 1x MR, but that’s okay because the Amex Offer gets me a statement credit or MR bonus. Unless it’s like a food Amex Offer that would go so much better on the Gold. Dining and supermarket spend on my Gold for 4x MR. When there are deals on VGC/MCGC at supermarkets, I use my Gold to buy them, then spend the VGC/MCGC elsewhere on otherwise non-bonus spend to pass along the 4x MR earning rate. I spent $30k on my Gold last year doing this, no MS. I did put gas on my BGR for 3x MR. And then I use the BBP for 2x MR on everything else.

So far, no pop up. 🤞

Thank you so much for this. DH's plat does get plenty of love (it's our default for big purchases), and our gold cards do as well. With the whole #bonvoyed thing neither of us feel like putting much spend on the Marriott card. This makes sense, but for some reason I thought they wanted spend on all cards even though it's really the total that should matter. Impressive you can put so much on your gold card!

1/13/2020 - DISchurners Announcement #1 - Manufactured Spend THREAD REFRESH

Per the NEW THREAD:
This is the 4th edition of our general Manufactured Spend thread...
  • See version 3.0 HERE
  • See version 2.0 HERE
  • And the original thread is HERE
In simple terms, manufactured spending is the process of turning credit card spend into cash, which you can then use to pay off the credit card.

The goal is two-fold:
  • Meet the minimum spending requirements to get the signup bonus when you open a credit card without actually buying a lot of stuff (thus allowing you to open many cards at the same time and not struggle to complete the minimum spend on all of them),
  • Generate miles or points without actually spending a lot of money.
Often we will discuss these strategies HERE as they are "advanced" in nature and require a certain degree of discretion.
I will be putting out a few announcements this evening as I work through a thread refresh. A reddit thread locks after 6 months and if we want to continue the discussion, a new one is created. To draw attention to some of the various topics we have available on DISchurners, I will do these as a series of announcements tonight.

1/13/2020 - DISchurners Announcement #2 - News & Discussion THREAD REFRESH

Per the NEW THREAD:
Please use this thread to track Newsworthy Topics discussed in our DISboards thread

"Newsworthy Topics" would include things such as:
  • A new credit card offer release
  • A major churning related news story (such as a program change, devaluation, etc.)
  • A change in redemption options (i.e. a new way to redeem URs, MRs, etc.)
  • Anything else deemed newsworthy by our group (perhaps even major news from one of our regulars)
ANYBODY can post here, but try to follow somewhat of a consistent format as follows:
  • Create a new top level comment for each "newsworthy topic"
  • Start with a date
  • BOLD a short headline by using "**" before and after that sentence.
  • Include a link back to a pertinent (preferably the first) comment on the DISboards on the topic
  • Try to credit whomever shared this piece of information (if you weren't the first to report it)
If something has already been added, feel free to add any discussion as a response to that comment

In general, I would keep all questions and comments on the DISboards thread, this place doesn't have enough activity to support that, it's just a great place to check in on every once in awhile!
If you see something posted during the day that you think belongs on the news thread, feel free to reply to that comment and "tag" me on the DISboards and just say @SouthFayetteFan - News thread.

1/13/2020 - DISchurners Announcement #3 - Chase, Amex & Misc Support Link THREAD REFRESH

And Finally, It's time for everybody's favorite event...the semi-annual refresh of the SUPPORT Link Threads.

As a reminder - ANYBODY is welcome to share their support links in these threads. The instructions are at the top of each one.

For those that have previously posted, the easiest way to move them over is:
1) Go to your OLD comment in the OLD thread (you'll see the old threads listed near the bottom of the DISchurners feed)
2) Click EDIT
3) COPY the entire comment text in the edit box
4) PASTE the comment text as a NEW comment in the NEW thread (you'll find the new threads near the top of the feed)
5) CHECK all links to make sure they are active and working
You do NOT need to delete your old comment when done, you can just leave it in that thread.

This process will help you not have to re-do all your formatting.
Side Note: It is best to access DISchurners in old reddit. (https://old.reddit.com/r/DISchurners/)

Side Note 2: I would also advise that you check to make sure that all of your links are accurate and working!!

I will post reminders for this over the next week or so and will then remove the old threads with only the new threads remaining.

For those that have been to Hawaii, I am looking for some luau recommendations. We'll be in Maui for 5 days and then staying at Aulani for 5 days. After my research I'm leaning towards:

a) Drums of the Pacific Luau at the Hyatt Regency (Maui). We'll be staying there for 2 nights.
b) The luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center (Oahu)
c) No luau

DH and I have been to a luau before and could skip it this time, but my kids (4 and 6) really want to see the fire dancers. I could book both of the luaus mentioned above with UR points.

Thanks for any advice!

So I downloaded Lyft and doordash and neither is offering us free dashpass/lyft pink with the CSR linked. What am I missing?
I'm no help with your question but I saw this and wondered how to use it.... it looks as if they'll charge for Lyft pink monthly, and CSR will autopay it? I'll prob sign up for occasional use since it's free.... I'm hoping to figure out how to link all this soon

I started out watching Perfect Harmony and gave up after 3 or 4 episodes because I just didn't like it at all and I so wanted to. The characters and the stories were just annoying.
Argh...agreed! That show is so lame....

I have transferred into Chase from PayPal, Venmo, Fidelity, and Ally with no issues :)

Thanks very much! I'm trying to figure out what dh could use for non-category spending. He's been using his Gold for everything, except for CF 5x categories and Hyatt for its categories. Unfortunately, he's not comfortable with getting any more business cards beyond his CIP. I might just wait until the one year anniversary and have him PC his CIP to a CIU. Or if the CF categories continue to be underwhelming, that might turn into a CFU lol

I will probably go for a BBP at some point, maybe this year.
I give my DH (P2) a Freedom Unlimited card to use.... he refuses to bother with categories etc so to keep it simple I figure he's always getting 1.5 points per dollar at least....(except if 'he' is working on a MSR)

I didn’t care for the luau at the Polynesian culture center but I did really enjoy the ha breath of life show. I was recommended the luau at the Marriott beside aulani after I came home. So I’m thinking we will try that luau if we go to aulani this year.

Have you tried saying this...I heard it might work:

I'm the exact opposite,I'm always quoting the Geico "mom and squirrels" commercial.... It's what Moms do!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Either way gets the eye rolls anyway
