Marathon Weekend 2021

Is this written anywhere? Do you, or anyone, know if runDisney is strict about this? Hoping to run the half with my DD next year but she will still be only 13.

You could lie about her age, I suppose, but is “it’s okay to lie to evade someone’s rules in order to get what you want” really the lesson you want to teach her?

Yup...it's in the race policies for every single one of their 1/2s. I would imagine that they are strict about it as they are strict about everything and it could be a liability if they weren't and something happened. Please note: entering false information for a race is cheating.

Thanks. And to @camaker for the info as well. Yeah, I would never submit false info. But I was hoping someone was going to say “here is who to contact”. My daughter is going to be disappointed! But we will have to focus on the 10k instead. Thanks again.

Definitely no. That would not in any way fit into our values. I have already talked with her. She was bummed. She is ready for a half, the real question would be if I am ready to keep up with her for 13.1 miles. We will focus on the 10k. I suppose another way to look at this is just maybe we will have to come back in 2022 so she can run the half!

Is there a local half you can run with her as a way to keep her excited about running and racing while she waits to get older? Not sure where you are in Michigan, but I know from my time there that the area in and around Ann Arbor has some really pretty and scenic ones. And when does she turn 14? Maybe Princess or Star Wars is an option next year?

We went this year without the kids as they could not miss school, my DD will be coming in 2021 as the school have granted her sports days for running the 5&10k ..she wants to do the half but will only be 12

Our board approved our calendar earlier than normal so I know now the kids go back on the 4th. (We're in Central PA) They do have the 15th and 18th off, but I'm not sure we want to stay that long, but at least I know they'd only have two unexcused days. (They can have up to 3 and then the 5 approved "educational trip" absences.) We'll likely leave Tuesday after school and then go home Friday so we can avoid the MLK day crowd. And then the oldest can celebrate his 21st birthday in style. The alternative is to leave the kids home with the oldest, or my in-laws if they haven't gone south for winter yet, but the kids would be super sad I think. I was thinking we might all do the 5K together if they come with.

Thanks John. We are from Mid-Michigan (near Lansing, about 45 minutes to Ann Arbor) and there are a ton of great races in the area. We are looking at finding a good first race this summer at the half distance for her. (Warning parent bragging about their child moment) She has already completed a virtual two hour race we did together this past October. In the two hours she covered 10.5 miles and would have gone farther had I not been running with her. She is an incredible runner and just loves it! She was really hoping her first half could be the Donald Half, but that is not going to work out. She will get to it eventually. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yup...makes a great goal. Or you could do a Disney 1/2 after her 14th but before MW...or both

Good morning, runDisney all stars!

Welcome to the first Sundays are for Disney on the 2021 thread. For the uninitiated, Sundays are for Disney (often shortened to SAFD) is a weekly question/topic posed to anyone on the thread who feels like answering. The questions are typically about Disney, runDisney or running in general. I've found it's a pretty good way to get to know one another and share our Disney fandom.

And while Sundays are for Disney, Monday through Saturday are for Disney, as well. So, if you don't see the question until later in the week, feel free to answer anytime.

So, for this week's Sundays are for Disney (courtesy of @run.minnie.miles ) ... Roll Call! Tell us all a little bit about yourself. Share as much or as little as you want ... name, hometown, interests outside of Disney and running (we'll save those for another time), hobbies, a quirky fact or where we can find you on social media if you'd like to share that as well.

I'm Lee, a 36-year-old Disney fan from Iowa City, Iowa. I have three daughters and a job at Iowa's second largest newspaper and my main hobby outside of running is photography. I'm not a professional at all, but it's fun for me. You can see some of my pics on Instagram (@lhermiston).

Have a great week, everyone!

Who doesn’t know me at this point ;)

I’m Ryan, a college student in the great state of WI. I coach high school football and work with a high school baseball team. I very much like to stay busy. I think that’s part of the reason I enjoy WDW so much because It’s active vacation. I’m a diehard Wisconsin sports fan. Live and breath Packers, Badgers, Brewers, and Bucks. Even a little Marquette too once in a while ;)

I’m on all the social media. My twitter and personal Instagram is rteetz. My disney/running instagram is ryanrunsdisney.

I’m Kenn, a 49yo process validation scientist for a vaccine manufacturer. I’ve got a wife and 2 daughters, 21 and 26. I live in Holly Springs, NC, a small town outside Raleigh. I’ve always been a huge Disney fan and it was RunDisney events that lured me from my normal sports of Ultimate Frisbee and disc golf into distance running. My other hobbies include Legos, video games, jigsaw puzzles and cross stitching. I’m not a big social media participant, only being on Facebook. Embarrassingly, my dogs have an Instagram account where I do not. You can view/follow them at thesydney_and_bellabulldogshow.

I’m John, a financial controller living in Dubai. I’m an endurance sports enthusiast, dog agility judge and exhibitor, and a scuba dive master. I’m also a wine lover & craft beer fan, though sadly good versions of both are hard to come by over here. I’m not as cool as @rteetz and only have one Twitter & Instagram account - @jmsenger

Hi All! I’mBlake and enjoy “the good life” living in Nebraska. I’m married to the best guy and a new mom to a sweet 6 week old baby boy.
I work in the commodity markets, putting my Husker ag econ degree to use.

I love running, Disney, traveling, reading, Husker sports, podcasts, cooking, coffee, tex-mex, and a cold Diet Coke. Being at home is my happy place, followed closely by WDW and Maui.

You can find me on Instagram at the same name: run.minnie.miles

Hi, I'm Steph (obviously). I have somehow found myself in 2020 as a 30-something mother of two youngins and a DH of 10 years based in western PA. I am a marketing communications manager.

I enjoy running, traveling, reading, and TV. I have participated in four WDW Marathon weekends since this obsession first started with the 2013 marathon.

I’m Jenn! I’m 39 from Northern VA, by way of the Fingerlakes in upstate NY. I’m married to my high school sweetheart and am a mom of two. I love crosswords puzzles and everything on Bravo and the Hallmark channel. Disney and running are just ok. I mean, I’ll go if you make me! :rotfl2:

YAY SAFD!!!!

I'm Heather, mom of 3 girls. 20,17 & 13. We live in MA with DH. Most importantly we HATE THE PATRIOTS (actually we hate all football). Our family skipped this year's MW because I was recovering from foot reconstruction that happened in July. I'm back up and running and planning big things for this year and 2021. Fun facts about my kiddos: DD1 is a digital marketing and design major, DD2 is a JR in HS and wants to go to college for dance, DD3 is also a runner, she turns 14 in September and will be doing the 1/2 in January. DH is a Dopey Alum and I "only" ran the marathon last year. My insta is @heater.runs and although I'm on FB I try and stay far away from it. Our kitties have their own insta @the_weasley_kitties and post sporadically (DD is the owner of the acct) but are tagged fairly regularly. I'm a PT pharmacy tech (maximum flexibility!) and DH does data analytics for a major retailer.

I’m Marsha, from a town in Ohio that celebrates all things pumpkin.

I work in public education administration and am a (mostly) silent partner in an agricultural LLC with my DH, the actual farmer in the operation!

My first trip to WDW was in 1974, likely before many of you were born.

MW 2020 was my 11th runDisney event! Looking forward to MW 2021 and hoping to be able to stay for all of DATW!

I'm Melissa and I'm a 33 year old engineer. I moved to the public sector a year and a half ago which has been a good life change.

My interests revolve around booze, my Rhodesian Ridgebacks (Qi'ra & Gantu) and old man Cocker Spaniel and Star Wars Legos. This is evident on my instagram (@swflmeli) Some days the photos are better than others but I've been doing Project 365 now on its 6th year.
