I am panicked about all the stories of boarding groups being gone in under a minute. Was anyone in the park at opening who entered the app right away and still failed? I have researched what to do but I'm worried my app will malfunction or my fingers won't be fast enough. My husband will be with me so I will also have him trying simultaneously.
As far as I know we (here on the Dis) have not had any stories from someone there at opening time that has not been able to get a bg or a back up bg. You can tell because the backup bg go on for about 30 min after opening.
If you do encounter issues with the app all you have to do is go to a Guest Experience Team member and they will help you

I feel so bad. Some of my family members are there this week with their first-timer kids. They were supposed to go to HS yesterday and about ready to leave the room when the kids got sick. They're in HS today but weren't able to get a BG. I'm so disappointed for them.

This is my fear! That is soooo disappointing to wake up early, get to the park, and play the boarding group lottery only to not get a boarding group....

They were so focused on making sure the kids were feeling up to being in the park that they didn't try to get there in time for park opening. I don't blame them, but am disappointed for them because the kids are such Star Wars fans.

A backup bg is the same as a regular bg, just at a later time of day. The attraction has had 6 bad days since opening where they haven't been able to cover all backups.
Being there at opening will get you a bg.
Disney doesn't guarantee you will ride even with a regular bg, so people just need to be there at opening if they want to try

Maybe I misunderstood but I thought it wasn't known how many backups were given out each day. So if you're saying every backup has been called on all days except 6, that means the highest number listed on the chart was the highest number given out that day?

So , if your "join a boarding group" button never turned red, how did you join a group? it isn't clickable for me unless red.
My app was not working at all. I got in line where the CM's have umbrella's set up to help folks. There was also a few people in line just in case their app didn't work.

I am seriously questioning whether we should go next Friday or change all our plans to go on Saturday. We have no major FPs since we decided last minute to go to DHS for the day. The biggest problem is that DH and I have a ressie at Morimoto’s for a belated Valentine’s dinner Saturday night. My guess is there’s no chance of switching it to Friday. Hmmmm...decisions, decisions.

But we have had a lot of people who were trying at open and got backups of 100 or higher, which on a bad day would not ride.

this was my worry too. getting up at 5am def took a toll on my girls. One morning, the little one feigned a tummy ache (she was just tired & cranky), but i gave her some liquid advil and off we went - and that tummy ache was gone as soon as the excitement of being at the park took over.

Getting a backup bg is not the same as saying they didn't get any bg. Even if you don't get to ride you could go to guest relations and people have reported getting a fp for the next day
People who are new to planning this and read a comment like " they were there at park opening and didn't get a bg" are being misled and it's just not the correct info

It's very disheartening. Fridays have not been good for this ride and that is the only day that works in our schedule for this upcoming trip in March. Unfortunately rearranging our plans now would be a nightmare. I know most days people get to ride but The Chart doesn't lie - Fridays are tough!

I ripped off the bandaid and scrapped our plans, it helped that we don't do a lot of ADR's. Now I've got 5-6 weeks to try to move up our HS fastpasses (should be possible when they change the hours, and it's really not critical for us to have more than 3 there anyway) and land a new FOP and Oga's reservation, which weren't at great times anyway.

I know that at any moment things could change and Thursdays could be the worst, lol. Guess we will see.

I'm wondering if, with the fact that we know that RotR is not a morning "person", meaning, it has downtime every morning, should they just announced a delayed opening, let's say at 10am, and not go through this process every single day?
Who’s to say that the ride wouldn’t see downtime then after it opens at 10? I don’t think that’s a great idea. I think it’s better off working through the kinks in the morning.
