Looking for the next card for me and DH. I'd like to start earning rewards that will help us to and from Europe in 2022. I think we've narrowed it down to Delta's amex cards for both of us and that could get us to London for four of us. Now thinking of which cards could help us get home (from Paris or Rome). I don't think we'd be able to earn enough Delta for round trip, so looking for another airline for the flights home. I know UR are very flexible and we plan to maximize our earning of them, so looking for other options to fill in the gaps between UR earning cards. I'm just afraid to get into AA because it would probably take a few cards each to get enough miles and with the shut downs I don't know what is safe. So what other options should we look at? I was looking at United, but I'm not familiar with them so I'm not sure if that's a good airline to fly out of Europe. Is there a card/airline anyone would recommend we look at? We're already all planned out for Chase cards, and amex will be focused on delta and possibly Hilton. Preferably business to keep our x/24 low.
United would be a good option for flying business, it would be 60k per ticket if you find a saver award. That would take 3 CIP for 4 tickets. Or you could get the United Biz that has 100k SUB.

My Hyatt card is renewing in July (got approved in 2018). When is a good time to cancel?

The AF for my Hilton AmEx biz card posted and is due March 10th. I don't think I want to keep this one as it's tying up a spot. When do I cancel? Does anyone keep it to get the FNC (for $15,000.00 spend -- I got the night last year when I paid my property taxes)?

I want to post pics of our penthouse suite at the Westin Whistler. Has the problem of pics posting sideways when taken with cell phones been solved (short of uploading them to Dropbox, then linking to the dis)?

Those who have been to USO recently:

what time do you recommend I get to the park with a 9 AM opening this Friday to try to get in line for Hagrid’s? No express passes and not staying on site or anything, so just driving there and parking. We are also not opposed to doing single rider for this ride, but I see some stuff online that acts like the line can be as long as the regular line? I feel like I’ve usually had good luck with single rider lines, but maybe something is different here.

I am going to agree with @Minnie368 to get there about an hour before. We arrived about 40 minutes before and had probably 20 people in front of us before the turnstile. I think every person in front of us had an issue with their card and we had a chatty ticket person. It took us forever to get through and then we probably had to wait about 45 minutes to get on. It is tough to watch every other line going through quickly! Hope you get to ride - it is so much fun!!

Booking Swan using AA Miles. I’m going to do this for 2 nights in September. Right now AAVacations is showing 49,200 miles and UseAAMiles is 52,900. Do those of you that have booked this way think this may drop in points? Should I wait.

Super weird, but I had read to take a screenshot of your pic then post the screenshot. So far all of my screenshots have posted correctly. I have zero idea why that would work though. lol

We do lots of European travel and I have to say Delta all the way!

@Minnie368 We are Delta hostages and booked flights to Italy this summer through Delta Vacations. They were having a great promo where your Delta points counted double. We were able to book the flights through Delta Vacations and paid less in points than what they wanted in Skymiles on the Delta site. This is the first time I have seen this sale, but it worked out great for us. I even transferred MR points to the girls' accounts which had some miles but not enough to book a ticket for some of the tickets we purchased through the sale. Having the different currencies helped us get a great deal. Good luck!!

My advice is to look at things a little differently. We've gone to Europe 4 times in the last few years and I don't really care all that much which airline I fly. We used AA miles once for a great trip, but then when we tried to do it again the flights weren't coming up on points. My point is that airlines change, availability is limited, yada yada. What has worked for us is collecting MRs or URs (really both). Then looking for flights available on points on airlines we can transfer to. For us, it's mostly been British Airways and Air France (but of course it depends on your personal itinerary), and we have been able to transfer our credit card points to the airlines (often with a pretty decent bonus). This gives us much more flexibility when it comes to planning trips abroad. In 2018 and 2019 we used MRs. For 2020 we used URs. This also helps if you end up changing your plans and want to fly off in the opposite direction (happened to us over here).

First thing is first. Before you look at any other options for flights, you should first be aware of what airlines have the most flights from your departure airport to you arrival airport. If United has one flight a day or one flight a few times a week then that is not the airline you want to focus on. Less award seats would be available and if the flight is cancelled due to mechanical issues or not making enough revenue and taken off the calendar, you would be stuck with no flight at a point that would be likely too late to make other arrangements.

Are you choosing Dela because you are in a Delta hub? Keep in mind Delta has had dynamic award pricing for years. I can recall seeing award flights ranging from 180,000 - 700,000 for the same departure and arrival cities for one of my flights a couple of years ago. There's a reason their miles are known as Sky Pesos. Just because you may see award flights at a certain number of miles today doesn't mean they will stay that way. Anyone who gets into AA now should be safe. Shutdowns have taken place for those employing advanced strategies or taking advantage of loopholes that no longer exist.

Please note award flights to or from London often incur very high taxes and fees in comparison to other European destinations. If you are looking for flights with a party of four then I am guessing that you are looking to fly in coach. When that is the case, you can often purchase tickets with UR points via the UR portal with a CSR account for far less than what it would cost to book an award flight now that the legacy carriers are all on dynamic pricing. Hope this helps :flower3:

I would go with United or AA. I got 3 AA cards this year which was enough for two round trips Biz class tickets to Europe. The aviators are the easiest cards to earn miles on. All you have to do is make one purchase pay the AF and you have at least 60k miles. If two of you did that that’s two one ways. Two citi Biz cards would give you another two one ways. As long as one person doesn’t get multiples of one card you’re fine.
Award flights for Biz can be as low as 50k. Awards fights on BA with AA miles are plentiful. The only negative is the fuel charges. You may have to pay 250.00 to 300 pp on BA. Is their 4 of you? Getting 4 award tickets on any flight might be hard. Are you open to splitting up and are you flexible about what city you fly home from? AA has had a ton of saver awards to and from Berlin this Summer. I have no idea why but they have.
It going to be tough finding saver award from Paris or Rome on a AA flight but if you are open to paying BA’s fuel charges it should be a piece of cake.

Another nice thing about Advantage is that you can change your flights without paying a fee as long as your origin and destination don’t change. If you book something and find a better flight even if it’s a different day you can change it. I’ve changed my flights four times.
I know very little about United, but I did join their mileage program a couple days ago to see what award flights they offered to Australia.

I don't think so. What I find that works for me is to screen shot the pic on the cell phone, crop the photo so it looks like the original and then post.

30 days..haven’t reviewed the application yet
2 weeks...good
7-10 days ...could be denial or ID verification
Uggggghhhhh 30 days.

Oh well. My timing stinks as usual. Really wanted that card for my trip next week but in the meantime I guess I'll just try to keep the RAT at bay.

I did book a room at a Hyatt House for my family trip this June but I don't think I can acquire anything in such a short time frame that I can accrue enough points with. I have only about 7K URs and zero MRs at the moment. Oh and like 20K Best Western points! :rotfl:
