Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

The takeaway I got from the Governors meeting is......

THe ball is now in Disneys court. The state is ready for them.

I also think once an agreement comes from both parties an opening can happen fairly quickly

I didn’t get that at all. There is a process, pretty involved. Didn’t sound at all like he was willing to be rushed into anything

Here we go..

Theme parks must provide a full extensive plan for approval
they are taking proposals to open the parks from respective park and key officials with endorcements
DeSantis safety first for theme parks... santitization; capacity management; a few things that must be addressed

This is huge. I was hoping for Phase 2, but this is better because now we don't have to wait for a later Phase. I'm confident Disney already has an extensive safety proposal/procedures that they can submit for approval.

With the union agreement two days ago, I’m sure they can, or have already begun putting SD measures in the parks, sneezeguards, 6ft markers, reminder signs etc. But it would probably take 2-3 weeks to open when they finally have a decision. We’ll see this weekend if schedules go out. I wouldn’t expect a June opening, but it’s possible towards the middle-end for soft openings with resorts in early July (probably after the holiday)

I agree 100%

I think right now its just down to some little details being worked.

After hearing what I heard this week I would be shocked if it's past July 1st opening

Phase two hasn’t been eliminated, it’s being moved back to accommodate further phase one openings. There wasn’t any mention about the length of this extension - more data to be collected - but over what length of time 1 week. 2 more weeks. That wasn’t clarified 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hope someone thinks to ask..

Was just going to say that. Sounds to me like DeSantis just threw the hot potato at Demings so he can do this :confused3 if things go badly.

Not sure it’s a hot potato. I think he just trusts his local leaders. DeSantis has done a very good job at handling the reopening of the state, so he wouldnt need to toss the responsibility of a big decision like this on the mayor

Interesting. At many places near me (in CA), I can’t imagine how any form of social distancing is possible with places being capped at even 50%.
We all know that social distancing and wearing masks 100% of the time can't really work in most of our walks of life. There are just too many things where people HAVE to be close to each other: elevators, airplanes, theme parks, sports arenas, the waiting rooms of doctor's office, standing in line at the DMV, going to a Chick Fil-A.

So, yes, even places at 50% capacity means people won't even be close to 6 feet apart. And we NEED to be okay with that. But, at this point, the fear is so large we just can't jump in with both feet without freaking out a lot of people. So governors paving a path to re-open (no matter how risky) is a GOOD thing over governors that feel locking down longer "until its safe".)

The reduced capacity is just simply to help reduce the odds of getting infected in a crowded place AND help people "feel" safe. To help communities feel its okay to start going back to being among other people (which is needed in order for society to function). Once people start getting back out there and doing "normal" things at a reduced capacity, with safety procedures in place (like masks on), then the country as a whole can begin to heal and feel ALMOST as safe going out and about like we ALL do during flu season.

Press conference was pretty much what I expected- he had given indications there would be no phase 2 today. But on the whole, not bad news. They have no indicators moving to another phase is a problem and since they seem to be on a 2 week schedule, hopefully they'll get to phase 2 by the end of the month. I expect Disney has their plans ready to go, just waiting on a move to the next phase and data that shows everything is going well. I still think the schedule this Sunday will tell the tale about any opening by mid-June. I still lean heavily toward a July 1 opening, but my guessing has been absolutely horrific so far.

we were never going to get a phase 2 announcement today and nothing is pushed back or off schedule. In fact there is no schedule. Ronnie said it would be data driven based on hospital capacity and percent positive test results, and the fact is we just started phase one 11 days ago. It takes 14 days at least for new cases to show in the data following a change in policy. The full phase 1 push after a short time line is strictly based of anecdotal evidence.

my opinion... and SOLELY my opinion (please no rude comments of any kind) - people will be people... you have the ones who are adequately careful and respect the laws in place and the you have others who think they are above it or immune or just plain ignorant to what can happen just because it hasn't happened in their realm... you, individually need to be ok with and expect to be "rubbing elbows" (so to speak) with them all if/when you go to any open facility - be it a park, restaurant, resort or whatever. You, as an individual, have the decision to make as to whether you want to run the risk of being exposed or not when you visit these areas now deemed "ready". I, personally, as much as I love Disney and am frothing at the mouth waiting for them to open, will wait it out a bit - I don't want to be the guinea pig used as a statistical example of why it was or wasn't ready to open. I do have my reservation for the July 4th weekend, but if they don't open before then - and by then i mean first week in June (maybe 2nd) I will be cancelling for a later date - I'll wait for the initial wave of people/reports to guage.

Has anyone given any thought to when EPCOT opens - specifically with reference to the China pavilion. I know, people will be people, but it will only take one mischief maker or confrontation to cause problems. And I wouldn't be surprised if Japan has similar issues - just because people will be people. Heck, even ticket sales for Mulan could be slightly lower than they are projecting now because of, you know, people.
