DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

First two pics are visible on my laptop but not the others?

Huh. That's weird.

I might have figured it out. I just changed a setting on my photo folders. Can you see them now?

Top 3 reasons you like Springs or if you're a "get off my lawan" guy towards Springs Top 3 reasons you are not a fan.

Like @Terra Nova guy , I'm mostly ambivalent.

Top 3 reasons to like:
1. Homecomin'
2. 2nd chance to grab souvenirs we missed in the parks.
3. Like @scott2997 , a chance to get a quick Disney fix if you're in Florida and can't otherwise visit the parks.

Top 3 reasons not to like:
1. Feels like it's always crowded now
2. Most of the stores are places I would never want to set foot in (Lego aside, of course)
3. Every time I try to get on the Characters In Flight balloon it's down for weather reasons.

I’ve always wanted a fire pit but I live in suburbia with houses all around, so I just never bothered. Life is too short, so I just said screw it and I went out yesterday and picked up one of those small fire bowls. We’ll only use it to roast a couple marshmallows anyway. Looking forward to it tonight.

Carpe Diem! Hope you enjoy it.

3. Getting a little Disney Magic without spending $$ on a park ticket....I've made many a trip to Disney Springs (Downtown Disney) when I've been in town for a conference so I could just get that Disney Fix!

I've done this same thing. Multiple times!

@Captain_Oblivious I love your eldest boy's T shirt.

Thanks. He's a sucker for anything monorail-related. Which is not wrong.

Hell, if I can do it, anyone can.

Don't give away our secret!

I'm sure that's true. This has seemed like the ultimate "perception is reality" event. If you live in rural Nebraska, it's all a wild overreaction. If you live in Manhattan, it's the holocaust.
Yes! I thought the same thing. ::yes::
I'm going to post these from my Google account. For some reason, Google photos have trouble showing up here if you're on an Apple device, so tell me if that's still a problem. I can see them just fine on my work computer.
I can only see the first two. (The second one is great!)
We are moving to our 3rd stage of reopening tomorrow,
Really! I know in some provinces, we're moving to phase two soon, but not here and certainly not phase 3 yet.
Top WDW list for today ........................ Considering Springs opened somewhat yesterday, Top 3 reasons you like Springs or if you're a "get off my lawan" guy towards Springs Top 3 reasons you are not a fan.
Jock Lindsay's. Cool place even if I'm not much of a drinker

I think it's called the marketplace? I found some HM merch in there once and loved that.

I'll lump restaurants into one category. Loved Boathouse, Raglan Rd, Homecomin', Morimoto.
I’ve always wanted a fire pit but I live in suburbia with houses all around, so I just never bothered. Life is too short, so I just said screw it and I went out yesterday and picked up one of those small fire bowls.
We're probably going to get one for the exact same reason. :)
Ran 10k today, which was a bit toasty as I could only go at 12-1.
:sad2:
Will be running 3K in a bit and hoping not to die.
I just changed a setting on my photo folders. Can you see them now?
Nope.
Neither on my PC desktop or my apple iPhone.
A friend suggested that since graduations can't happen inside or outside, we should have the graduates all march through WalMart, Lowes, or the liquor store and have their names announced over the speaker.

Cut the grass for the first time behind the fence, even though it was still too wet. It was so high that I thought of Cheech n Chong.

It's not the traveling lighter part (well, the cost for the movers, yes)...

It's everybody and their brother with their hands in your pockets for selling a house. There's this fee and that fee and this tax and that tax and insane realtor commissions. I'm seriously debating about becoming a realtor...granted, they've done some work, but for what they're getting and even being generous and saying they've put 80 hours into this (not nearly), they're making $172.50 / hour. Now, I will grant you, they've had travel time and gas, but all of that is deductible as a business expense.

GET OFF MY LAWN!

Speaking of lawns, Norm...the new place has much more room for your RV. ;)

Thanks for getting me more lawn space. May be my future home.

How does that impact your retirement plans. Pretty sure you had just this year to go?

That's one of the things I'll be very curious to see once this is all over. Right now South Dakota without lockdowns has/had 4,000 cases and 46 deaths. My province's population is larger, but with lockdowns we've had or have 290 cases and 7 deaths. About 7% of SD's cases and 15% of the deaths.
Sweden has more deaths per capita the last week then all of the rest of Europe.
I am not saying the lockdowns will make a difference in the long run. "Flattening the curve" just means spreading out the deaths/cases, not eliminating.

I personally think that they'll find that lockdowns should have been imposed earlier in some places, were put in place at the right time in others, and should not have been put in place in others.

As for retirement, I'm filing tomorrow. I've had enough.

Given the current environment I don’t think it would be very easy. Plus the fact that my job very specialized within the company I work for, it’s not easily transferable skills.
It would probably be back to the drawing board for me. I’m not really sure, I honestly haven’t seriously looked for a job in 22 years.

Beverly again.

Tough news on the job front for a few of us.
Hoping for the best for you.

Thanks. You too.

And you mate, sorry to hear that. All the best.

Thanks.

Allowing businesses and activities to happen only works if people fallow the guidelines and it appears in a number of places that just hasn't happened. Even Sweden has many more deaths than they normally do during this time period so they aren't the shinning example that some tried to make them out to be.

In this province and one of our neighbouring provinces, people did what was asked. We worked from home, limited trips to the grocery stores, used online shopping and curbside pickup as much as possible. Churches, schools, recreational facilities and other gathering places we all shut down for about 8 weeks and are now starting to have limited re-openings. So far zero deaths because people did what they were asked to do.

You have that perspective. For me, KY was one of the first states to lockdown. In our 4 Million population, we've had 300 deaths, with over 60% being in the nursing home, most of those being over age 80. And, the nursing home locked down sooner in January as usual in response to flu season. As a state, we have the highest unemployment % in the nation.

Those are the #s. The interpretation is the debate. Did lockdowns help or not? Per capita, we are higher in % deaths to TN who locked down later. In that respect, our lockdowns did worse. We do however, have a smaller % of cases than TN. So, it could be argued that our lockdowns were better. The ultimate determination for me was that some of our hospitals laid off doctors and nurses, including in the largest cities (Louisville & Lexington). So, we definitely didn't overwhelm the medical system which was the objective, but we haven't even started trying to measure the social, educational, and economic impact from the lockdowns.

Very sorry to hear Jeff, I hope things work out for you

Dang, sorry to hear Norm, any idea of chances to be brought back from furlough and a possible time period?

The contract was thru June 30. We could start back up, but not sure how long.

Afternoon gents. A bit of tough news around here today. Thoughts for everyone being heavily impacted by the COVID-19, definitely very difficult times for everyone in some way right now.

Almost don't feel like it today but........ top WDW list for today..............Top 3 photo ops at DaWorld or your top 3 photos taken at Daworld (post if you would like).

Stay safe and healthy guys

I am so sorry to hear this, AirGoofy, I hope things work out for you. I'll say a prayer that things work out for you.

Great pics! Who do you use to host your pictures? I use to use photobucket, but now they want money for me to access my pics. Thankfully I had only a hand full of pictures on that site. Nope! I want free!

Thanks.

Ouch and ouch. Prayers for you both. Not sure how all this is going to shake out.

SWMBO had the day off today so we went to the big city to see how things were opening up and had planned to do some anniversary shopping. Hobby Lobby was packed so she left her cart and walked out. The mall was almost a ghost town. Dicks Sporting Goods, Dillards, every shoe store, and the Hallmark outlet store were all that were open. Disney store was closed as was her favorite clothing store and jewelry store. Picked up Cracker Barrel for her and the kids to eat in the car on the way back into the mountains. The 25th anniversary has all indications of being a dumpster fire to go with the rest of the year.

Thanks.

Well since I don’t have work for the near future I’m going to take the opportunity to enjoy life as much as I can.
I’ve always wanted a fire pit but I live in suburbia with houses all around, so I just never bothered. Life is too short, so I just said screw it and I went out yesterday and picked up one of those small fire bowls. We’ll only use it to roast a couple marshmallows anyway. Province doesn’t have anything.
My employer is a big multinational company so they wouldn’t qualify for the wage support.

I’ll try to come back with the actual pictures. The ones I would pick are not the typical ride photos, but ones that have special meaning.

1. me and DW at the fountain outside France. We took it by chance one night and it became one of our favourites, we do it every trip.
2. BBB pics of both girls. Only did it once for each but it’s just cute to see them with the princess hair.
3. Pics of youngest DD with Anna boots on. Hard to explain without the picture but she really wanted an Anna costume and we got the full outfit. She loved the boots and wouldn’t take them off. She clopped around MK with those things on. It’s just a fun memory.

That’s probably the angle I would take. I did that for two years in my previous position with the company, before I went back to a technical role last December. So hopefully I could find something in a project management type role...if I need to.

The firepit is great. Even better with a nice cigar. Enjoy.

It was so high that I thought of Cheech n Chong.
:lmao:
As for retirement, I'm filing tomorrow. I've had enough.
so... are congratulations in order or condolences?
This morning at work, a woman who's worked there for years (almost 44!) decided to take advantage of a retirement incentive package the company offered. She told me she'd put in for it today. I just heard, about four hours ago, that today was her last day!
I'm not sure if she's happy or not.

Morning, boys.
Got just over an hour to go before the work day is over, and lemme tell ya, I'm dying to get some sleep.
Ran another 3K yesterday and while it hurt, it wasn't as bad as the last few runs. And even better, I'm not limping and in a lot of pain today (some... but not much.)
So, maybe I'm turning a corner on that? I sure hope so. I also don't know how I'm gonna get from 3K to the 5K the program wants me to run in another week.
Then again, I never dreamed I'd be able, at my age and fitness level, to be able to run for more than a minute without having to stop and suck air.

Good job there, sir.
I know I'm the one always defending running, but don't stress on doing the completion of the program to its timetable. If its making you feel better, and more importantly, you are starting to enjoy it, then ease it up and maybe step back a week or so. Or shoot for 4k next week and 5 the week after. Its about the line, not the time. I always look at it like this. There are a myriad of reasons why some runs feel better than others which is tied into nutrition, sleep pattern and general health. One week I can go and knock out a half marathon in 1:45, next week I might not be able to get past 8 or 9 miles. There's science behind it, but I'm not a competitive runner, so I just go with the flow. By all means shoot me a DM if you want to chat about running.

"starting to enjoy it".... that's a tough one, actually. I run with my eldest DD. That probably helps me to keep going more than anything. Yesterday was the first time in a couple weeks that I was physically able to run after only one recovery day since the previous run. Previously, at these distances, I'd need a minimum three or even four - five days between runs. I was just in too much pain. Heck I had to get the dog down the driveway (a distance of only about 10m) in a hurry because she had to pee and I couldn't do it. But! Yesterday after only taking one day to recover, I told her I was ready to go again. Hmmm... was I looking forward to it? Yes and no. Yes, because I was able to as previously mentioned. And no, because I was afraid of hurting too much again. Luckily, today I feel okay again, other than some mild knee pain.

Morning Gents.

Another beautiful day here and I will be in the office most of the day. Calls all morning and budget stuff in the afternoon.

Have a great Friday all.

One more try with new settings. If this doesn't work, I give up and will go back to attaching them to the posts, which is a much bigger pain.

Sounds like you've turned a corner! That's great. Sounds like you might at least be getting used to it. We'll take it as a win.

I know I'm the one always defending running

Mostly against jerks like me.

I actually am glad for you guys who can handle the pounding and enjoy the runs. I think I react against it more due to a bunch of people in my circles who are hardcore distance runners, it's mostly all they talk about, and they tend to make you feel guilty if you don't enjoy it. Sort of like health food nuts. So it's not you, it's them. :p
