NBA at Walt Disney World

I had a reservation at CSR when these talks started. I am glad I changed it. I would not want WDW to determine my resort (even if it was a free upgrade).
Um, I don't think these NBA players are going to be very comfortable sleeping on a standard queen size bed at Disney. The avg height of a NBA player is 6'7 maybe even taller then that. How many rooms with King size beds does Disney have? I've only stayed in one and it was at the Poly. We're talking about accommodating all NBA teams and staff correct? Jam them all up in the All Star resorts they'll love it :)
Right! Not only that, but some of the rumors indicate that the families would join them because they don't want to be away for the entire time from their families. How many families would want to live in a room/villa (even if it's a nice DVC villa) for more than 1-2 weeks? These are families that are used to their kitchen being the size of a whole 2-bedroom villa. They are used to having their own rec rooms/own courts/home gyms, etc. And what about meals for all of them? They are used to specialized diets, etc. I don't think the El Mercado is going to cut it. LOL!

.The more I think about it I don't see NBA players staying on property. There are so many empty deluxe hotels in the area teams could rent out that could better accommodate their players. Most of the Disney property rooms are the size of a avg. NBA players closet :) A California king size bed will take up almost the whole room at Coronado Springs.

Players would be in the Tower I would think...

Being reported on Twitter Bucks owner said on CNBC “will probably be two sites” when NBA returns. Vegas for the West, WDW for the East.

I wish they at least could allow a very limited number of fans but I understand that they can’t. That said, since there is zero to gain from this and theme parks to lose, I don’t want to see it. One thing that has kept me positive through all of this is we will eventually have a once in a lifetime opportunity of being there when they finally open The gates. If NBA players get to go into the parks before me, I will not be happy.

I doubt the players will be going to the parks. I'm sure they will get money from hosting the teams. Keeping the parks closed while getting money from the NBA is a good thing. I wonder if they are holding off on opening til they can allow a higher capacity.

There is discussion on the rumored modifications thread of that. People are decently split into two camps on if WDW will have to close entirely or if they'll bubble a resort and WWoS basketball facilities so we probably want to keep that discussion there.

I’m sure they will get paid (and fairly well) for hosting, but the significant income from this for Disney as a company will be from the NBA coming back at all. I read a report that the NBA would lose $900 million in just TV revenue of they don’t have the playoffs. Likely more than half of that comes from Disney (ESPN has half the playoff games and ABC all of the Finals). If they’re paying that much for the rights, then it stands to reason they make significantly more than that from televising those games.

There is certainly not “zero to gain” from this.

From a customers perspective or a CM perspective (that wants to get back to work, I personally would love to delay going back to work as long as possible) there is nothing to gain. A few CMs will get to go back but not many, and 100s of thousands denied a vacation.

Financially maybe Disney comes out slightly ahead with a lower overhead. But I just can’t see it being a good look for the company. Most hardcores are the ones that would be coming anyway are ready for the opening while the general public is split. Maybe Disney thinks it would cover their image if they remain closed for 2 extra months but I just don’t see it.

More people would care about the NBA being back than visiting Disney World in the middle of a pandemic.

If Disney is holding off on announcing a reopening date because of their talks with the NBA, It would be sad for families who have planned for months for a WDW vacation to still be in limbo since Disney hasn’t announced an opening date yet. According to WDWNews, the NBA has confirmed they are in talks with Disney. Very sad, that Disney isn’t already in “talks” with Orange County mayor and Governor of Florida for reopening.

Has there been even one credible rumor that the NBA talks are effecting the reopening of WDW?

It’s sad for the people that had to cancel in March, April, May and June but it was necessary.

Disney is in talks with the Orange County Mayor and Governor. That’s the whole purpose of the task force which Disney is part of.
