Sales that are up during pandemic

  • An orthopedic treadmill since I have a bad knee and need to exercise every day at home instead of the gym.
  • Paint, a bench, and a loveseat to finish the master bedroom.
  • A computer so the kids can get their schoolwork done.
  • A printer because our printer stopped working.
  • Supplies to build a kayak from wood, a marine tarp, and pvc pipe. My DH wanted the kids to have a summer project with him since they aren't going to camp.
  • A boat building kit because my DH wanted his own boat. :rolleyes2

My microwave gave up the other day so I had to buy a new one. It was about 7 years old, so maybe it would have been its time anyway. It has been getting used a lot with my youngest home and having to cook lunches while I was at work before starting to wfh (and i guess i use it more wfh too)

Jigsaw puzzles.
I have been reporting on the shortage of puzzles for ages now. :rotfl2: No, seriously. Sales have dramatically increased during the pandemic. Ravensburger is reporting a 370% increase year over year.

With People Stuck At Home, Jigsaw Puzzle Sales Soar

Editing to add: Also pets, so I would assume pet supplies as well. I haven't searched out data online, but we know people who have picked up animals for companionship during the stay-at-home orders. Costco had a limit of 1 on their dog food the other day, so I would assume there is a high demand for it and possible correlation, but again...not looking to do any hard work researching things this morning.
I have also seen a lot of new pets in my FB feed. Along with puppies and kitties their are Chameleons, snakes, a hedge hog and a pony.

I bought a counted cross stitch kit after a hiatus of over ten years. Was definitely slim pickins. Haven’t started it yet but I bought one.

Fitness equipment. Trying to find the appropriate dumb bells for my kids so we can all work out together has been almost impossible. Took weeks to get a couple extra mats. Spent my “camera money” on a ‘smart’ Mirror, yoga blocks and a foam roller set. Oh yeah and a fancy pair of running shoes. I don’t run. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I have been hyper focused on closing my rings and earning monthly badges all while over snacking. 😬

We need a new blender and they seem to be out of stock every where.
I've been toying with the idea of getting a blender. I've been wanting to make the Dole Whip recipe Disney posted a few weeks ago, and I saw a watermelon margarita that looks incredible. But since I have no businesses indulging in either one I've held off on the blender purchase. I had no idea they are in short supply.

I read that acoustic guitars are selling like crazy, which makes sense:)

Lego and board games. I work adjacent to both industries and it's worse than Christmas for stock levels. Resellers on eBay are having a field day, though, getting way above normal asking prices for their items.

Somebody is slacking :rolleyes1 :teeth::teeth:

We've been waiting to hear how it turned out ::yes::

But on the subject of a blender I've been wanting one for years. I'd like a mixer/blender combo though I think I might be able to use that more. I've been wanting to try out making my own hummus as one thing.

Gun sales are up considerably. (Not sure why, but I even added to my own collection)!

Also, for us, eating out. If we ate out once a month previously it was LOT. We now find ourselves doing curb side pickup 1-2 time a week. Main reason it it's getting really hard to make different stuff 3 times a day with everyone home!

For us, puzzles and craft supplies. Fortunately, we've got a puzzle swap going with a relative out in California so the shortage hasn't mattered much here. Also, video games - I've let myself get sucked back into World of Warcraft during the shutdown, and my kids have been playing some Xbox adventure game together. Both of my adult boys have bought their own consoles so we've got three Xboxes in the house and they do a lot of multiplayer with DD11.

I've heard that pools are getting hard to find as people rush to put up their own, even if it is only a small above ground model, as a reaction to the beaches and community pools likely being closed for the whole summer. And a lot of people must be taking up gardening, because I've never had so many issues with out-of-stock seeds and plants for mine as I have this year. I wanted to rent a tiller last weekend for a yard project and Home Depot has a waiting list!

New roof. New windows. New weather radio. New back up drive for DH’s work computer. Pedometer. Plants, pots, and potting soil.

Also getting rid of some things. 5 trees too close to the house, hopefully before hurricane season is in full swing when the ground is less wet.

Home sales. Local real estate agents have seen a large increase in NYC residents looking to move up here.

1) Auto parts, especially performance and classic car restoration parts. The aftermarket electronic ignition died on my 1965 Mustang, had to special order one from outside the area. The Performance auto parts store said they sold more of those in April than they have in the past two years.
2) Pizza sales. (some could argue, BAD pizza sales) https://finance.yahoo.com/news/coro...ominos-pizza-sales-are-soaring-162811309.html

DS built a boat as a class project. It’s nice, but more like a dinghy, with no motor. Paint job was sweet. But he’s been wanting a fishing boat so he found a small one with a trailer for free on Craigslist that he and DH have been restoring. It’s almost done and they hope to get it in the water soon. He’s had to buy an engine, seats, electronics, gas cans, life vests, etc., and they redid the floor and still have to repaint the outside. Once it’s done it should be pretty nice. I think they figured recently they’ve spent about $1500. Parts keep coming in the mail, lol. But it’s been a good project. They’ve promised me they’ll stay close to shore! 😝 But eventually when DS is working full time he can maybe sell it and buy another. The guy he got it from had planned to do the same thing but had a couple of kids and simply ran out of time (and probably money too!).

I even have an old super NES hooked up on our basement tv. And boy, I am not good at these games any more!

My parents still have a working Atari system in their home. Maze Craze!

Our DS tried to teach DH and me to play Minecraft one evening - it was embarrassing. :o

Probably about 2 years ago, when DS was 11, he actually set up a training course for me in Minecraft so he could show me how to climb ladders, walk up stairs without falling off, etc. It did not go well for me!

I bought a counted cross stitch kit after a hiatus of over ten years.

Me too!

I work for a major major retailer. The things we have that have absolutely FLOWN off the shelves (Besides masks, lysol, the usual) are:
All game systems, even the digital download only X-box ones. Especially Switch systems which always come with a sale of a copy of Animal crossing so you know what they're playing on it.
Blackout curtains.
Bedsheets and pillowcases because of people making masks from them.
Sewing machines.
Craft kits
Lego
Puzzles
A lot of board games
Sidewalk chalk.
TVs have also been hit pretty hard, like holiday level hard but of course we don't have holiday level stock in prep.
