What movie did you watch over and over again as a kid?

We had a Beta player. Almost weekly I’d ask Mom to take me to Circuit City to rent a movie and it was almost always Neverending Story. Once we got HBO I remember watching Space Camp and Short Circuit quite a lot. As a teen I memorized Heathers and loved The Lost Boys.

When I was a "kid", we didn't have movies to watch over and over except the holiday specials and things like the Sound of Music which were on every year. And we did watch them over and over.
For my kids, I remember my daughter re-watching Free Willy so many, many times. I don't really remember my son being that focused on any one movie.
I listened to the Sound of Music and Mary Poppins over and over and over on my record player.

We had three television channels, record players and radios. Guess that's why we played outside until the street lights came on.

I guess Ten Commandments and Ben Hur, since they were on every Easter. Oh, and my favourite... Song of Bernadette. It played every year, too.

Once VCRs became popular, I had a few others. I still love The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (and still cry at the end). But my two "go-to" movies were Star Trek IV (the one with the whales) and Scarlet Pimpernel (the one with Jane Seymour and Ian McKellan).

Star Trek IV is just light-hearted enough that there are laughs, yet is a sci-fi time travel movie. It doesn't make me think too much. It's just fun.

Scarlet Pimpernel is a really great take on a classic. I loved seeing some great actors in their early years. Well done and light hearted enough, for a serious subject.

LOL, like others here, I’m old. No VCR or DVDs when I was a kid. Watched the movies that were repeated annually, most on major holidays: Wizard Of Oz, Miracle On 34th St, It’s A Wonderful Life, etc. If you missed it, you had to wait until next year to see it again. Also, one of the local NYC stations played Abbott and Costello movies every Sunday.

A bit OT, but we would go to my grandparents’ house for The Wizard Of Oz because they had a color TV, and my family still only had black and white until I was about 10 or so. Thought it was the coolest thing when the movie switches from B&W to color when Dorothy’s house lands in Munchkinland. (“We’re not in Kansas anymore!”)

While there was home video when I was a "kid" it was prohibitively expensive, although I did watch some VHS movies at relative's homes. My first VCR was bought when I was in college.

I was like a lot of the people posting here where one basically watched annual showings of The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz. I guess there were some movies showing at theaters that had a long run and stood through many viewings. Star Wars was in first run for a long time, although I didn't see it until the 1978 re-release. I saw it again during the 1979 re-release.

But as an adult I had a VHS player and a LaserDisc player. I watched Star Wars many time on LD. But I'd say one that I kept on watch was Four Weddings and a Funeral. Not sure why. I'm not really a rom-com guy but there was something about it that stood up to repeated viewings.

Oh yes, how could I forget the Abbott and Costello movies every Sunday at I believe 11:30 AM - 1 PM. Due to the number of years they showed them, and the repeating cycle, they may indeed be the movies I most watched. Thanks for reminding me!

The soundtrack to Lost Boys is still on repeat in my head. You could see the whole ocean in Jason Patric’s blue eyes.
That reminds me...
Solarbabies
Man I had a taste for the classics as a kid 😂

The Muppet Movie. It was everything to me as a kid!

We also had a Betamax player! I loved the way the buttons sounded when you push rewind or fast forward! I can still hear them!!!

I was a kid Pre-vcr too. I did see Grease 8 times in the theater when I was 8.

I hadn’t seen that movie in years, but I was talking with my tween niece about it not long ago so decided to see it again. I never realized this before but there are some really risqué lyrics in some of the songs, and really mature themes. Not really a kids movie!
