Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I've heard that Disney used to be closed at least one or two days a week and closed early-ish (private events such as company nights were held then).
Maybe Disney will follow that example. I think they would have to significantly lower their entrance price if they do that, so that may be a deterrent for the higher ups.

I'm old enough to remember this. They were closed Mon & Tues during 'the winter' and the parks closed at (IIRC) 6pm on the days it was open. I say 'the winter' because I can't tell you exactly what those dates were, we just thought of it as 'the winter'.

I also used to go to the 'Telephone Pioneers Night' private parties. They ran from 8pm - 1 am. They were great! The place was uncrowded and the waits were short.

I vaguely remember going to a TRW (aircraft company?) party that a family friend invited us to. I think tickets were $25 or less. My dad couldn't remember where he parked the car and we wandered the lot a bit afterwards.

If you are talking about releasing the name of the specific person that tested positive that would be a big no no, if you are talking about a general someone has tested positive then yes that seems less then cool.
WDW is a big place. The fact that person A has tested positive doesn't mean person B has ever had contact with them. I wouldn't expect this information to be released broadly to all employees. I would expect the employees who have worked directly with this person to be notified. I would expect the same to be done at Disneyland.

It is being reported that this was done at DTD with the CM who tested positive on 7/24. Those who worked directly with that CM were informed and told to isolate at home. Other CMs who did not work directly with that person were not notified about the positive test or about said CM's identity.

Interesting.
Looking through the write-down lens; This would explain their strategy of keeping prices unchanged and setting any long lasting changes and precedence into 2021.

Same reason why I don't see 1/2 day tickets either.

It would be interesting though to SPEED up ongoing projects to cost them out for 2020 - like Tron and Avengers. Or maybe even the long debated magicband to DLR.

In other news - County bumped back up above cutoff metrics to get off the state's watchlist: 104 per 100,000 and 8.1% :(

I really do wonder how the Avengers Campus construction is coming along.

As to OCs numbers for yesterday , it is because there were ZERO reported tests, yet 43 new positive tests. The numbers are completely unreliable due to the problem with the CAL REDIE reporting system, so much so that the state has paused any type of watchlist activity based on individual county results and they are asking the counties to consider HAND COUNTING test results until the issue is resolved. (I assume OCs 43 tests from yesterday were hand counted. )They apparently have a team of "dozens" of people trying to fix this software issue because it is affecting the entire state at this point and without reliable numbers, NO reopening decisions can be made.

So, where Disneyland reopening is concerned, I wouldn't expect any significant movement towards reopening for at LEAST a month. Assuming OCs numbers are accurate, if we come off the watchlist, the first thing to be reinstated will be dine in restaurants and personal services (salons). I would expect we would need to see a continued decrease or at least leveling off of numbers for a few weeks in order to proceed to further Stage 3, which is where theme parks falls.

I wouldn't expect dine in restaurants, bars, breweries, etc. which is state wide, regardless of watch list status to be reinstated when OC comes off the watch list. So make your DTD restaurant patio reservations as soon as you know you might be visiting.

Exactly why I think Knott's hit it right with moving forward with option B until things can possibly get to open fully.

Makes one truly think there's something legal about inability for DLR to open a Food+Wine option.

I’m with ya and I’m not from CA. We froze last year and it took a strong love of Disney combined with my Clark Griswold level of holiday obsession to stay late at night to enjoy all the things.

Dude could you imagine how depressing DL would be with no overlays or lit up castle at that time of year? Like man, just cancel everything if that’s the case. Cancel. it. all. 😂 I’m also a little nutty about how much I love Disney that time of year so I might not be the best test subject for that idea.

Same. If DL is open and there’s no holiday joy, I’m out. ✌️

San Diego County had over 600 cases yesterday, and county officials said many of them were backlogged, some from MONTHS ago. Our numbers have been looking much better, and this is completely torpedoing them. And people wonder why some of us are paranoid...... it is so completely frustrating.

I’m expecting a cancellation email for our 9/6 trip soon. No way will they open with this data mess going on. Ugh.

WDW will likely give us some clue at least once they release their November hours. I’m hanging onto hope for our December trip by a thread. But I haven’t given up all hope just yet, clinging to that thread as tight as I can... I keep saying well, if I have to reschedule later this year at least summer 2021 won’t seem quite as far away as it does right now. 🤷🏼‍♀️ If that makes sense. Jedi mind tricks with myself.

My FB memories are killing me this week- we always go this time of the summer so I have three years worth of recent trips taunting me.

Maybe we’ll get news soon.. something.. anything.. Still disappointed we didn’t get any word during the shareholder meeting.

Rolling cancellation announcements every Thursday for one week. Currently cancelled through Aug 29 is canceled. A 9/6 start date won’t know about cancellation until 8/20 if the pattern holds.

I suspect the data mess will be sorted enough by then to get some ideas of the state of things.

For those who hit the LA Times paywall like me, you just need to copy and post the link into a private window.
That unfortunately doesn't always work. It didn't for me.

I'm actually interested to see if Disney does anything, similar to Knott's. But I am also surprised that it is allowed because to me it would seem to fall under a festival/fair which currently aren't allowed, maybe because of the limited capacity it makes it okay

Honestly, if they do end up doing a knott’s- esque festival in DCA and let people gather there because it meets the requirements of being outside, I don’t see why they can’t let people ride goofy, incredicoaster, and Pixar pal-a-round, since those are outside too. It’s strange that people can gather at knotts, eat and hang out but somehow getting on a rollercoaster that is all outside is “less safe”? Just odd to me.

ETA: the Mater ride is also completely outside and just like the aforementioned rides in DCA can comply with social distancing and what not.
