News Round Up 2020

I decided to take a chance on The Child Magic Band for DH. There’s still no picture on the main page but this shows up when I click on the order.

We bit the bullet and preordered them for our Feb trip for our kids. I showed them what was currently available and asked if they'd rather wait to see about new styles closer to the trip or roll the dice on Baby Yoda sight unseen - they chose the Child LOL

I realize it is probably not in line with popular opinon, i just don't like the stylization of the new HM stuff coming out. The artwork just doesn't do it for me.

If true, I wonder why in the world they would do that right now. The economy is in a really weird spot. Some people are doing fine, others are seriously struggling (I heard it described as a 'K' shaped recovery). Even for those for whom the economy has not tanked, it seems like a vacation time-share would be relatively low on the priority list when there are uncertain times ahead.

I get the concept -- you "require" people to buy more points to make more money .. but uhh .. with the tourism industry tanked for the year (and probably beyond) . shouldn't you be offering perks to get people to buy into DVC? Not essentially increasing the minimum price?

Won't this just drive people to resale?

There may be a pent up demand for it .. but until things normalize, are people really buying into new DVC? (I am guessing there is a probably a ton of sellers and the resale market is potentially good?)

They are offering aggressive incentives right now as well.

Direct sales are slow according to filings with Orange County

Resales this summer are brisk, record setting for several brokers. People are using the money they didn’t spend at Disney (or wherever) this year to lock in their next however many trips. Presumably at some point the situation will flip as existing owners lose jobs and People find ways to spend vacation money on vacation.

seems a little weird to me ... I do see a lot of resale contracts up and attractive rates and saw Disney just restarted the Right of First Refusal again, etc.

So I sort of would see them more going the other way, trying to get people away from resale and to direct

Maybe the thinking is use other insentives to get people to go direct but at an increased rate to reduce the number of people that were buying lowest # direct possible and then adding on some resale, so now if they have to buy more direct then they don't need to add on the additional resale.... thus driving down cost of resale even more making the cost for Disney to buy back even lower? (I think I hurt my brain just working that out in my head)
