Thoughts on Grand Cayman Itinerary Change?

We sail 1/22/22 on the Magic with a stop at Grand Cayman and Castaway Cay. I do not think we will go. I recently read that a DCL out Galveston which had stops at Key West and Castaway Cay was changed to Grand Cayman and Costa Maya I think. Each cabin was given a $400 onboard credit.

We're supposed to be on the Galveston sailing that got changed to Grand Cayman and Cozumel instead of Castaway Cay (still so bummed about that). There haven't ever been DCL excursions posted for Grand Cayman and I'm expecting to get word of it getting changed to a sea day any day now since we sail in less than three weeks. How I wish they'd add back in Castaway Cay again!

NCL is also 100% vaccinated and they have had outbreaks on some of their ships, probably Omicron.

Not Disney, I assume?
Oh, it was Disney, on the Wonder. It was actually the first time any Disney ship had docked in Progreso, and they made a big deal of it there.

I should have said - the tour we did in Progreso was Chichen Itza with Cenote swim. Chichen Itza was a bucket list thing for me, even though we weren't there for that long, and the Cenote swim was way cooler than I had expected (and was the favorite part of the trip for my daughter) - basically swimming in an underground cavern with lots of stalagtites/stalagmites. This was an all-day excursion (we were some of the first ones off the ship, and returned right near all-aboard time, and was expensive, but we liked it. The nearly-perfect weather didn't hurt, either!

We were disappointed at first to miss Grand Cayman (we had been there on a previous trip, and we remember it as the best beach we've ever seen anywhere), but that excursion made us really glad things switched around.

Oh, thank you! That gives me hope. We're on the Wonder 2/8 Cozumel & GC. Sounds like an awesome excursion but we have toddlers so likely just looking for a beach.

I’m on the same cruise with a toddler. I’m really hoping there will be some sort of beach break.

thank you so much for this. I just don’t know if my husband could take another sea day and you’ve given me somewhere new to research!

Has anyone seen the condition of seven mile beach on GC? Sea levels have risen due to what many believe was poor planning and building to close to the shoreline. Perhaps this is a good time for DCL to look elsewhere?

We leave on Sunday and DCL has not yet cancelled our GC stop. Don't count on DCL to tell you in advance of any changes.

We are on that cruise as well. Many hurdles to get there but we are going to push through!! :flower:

Jan 14 sailing out of Galveston has been officially changed from Grand Cayman to Costa Maya, Mexico - got the email from our Dreams agent today.

are Tortola and St Thomas stops happening these days? Our trip isn’t until spring break but I’m working on excursions…
why are castaway cay stops getting canceled?

I don't know about Tortola/St Thomas. As for why our Castaway Cay stop was changed, they of course did not give us a reason, but we were also supposed to go to Key West which isn't allowing cruise ships. My guess was that just rerouting us completely to a Western itinerary was easier; or, they may have needed the day in CC for one of the bigger ships.

Ah, that makes sense. So unpredictable these days. We only have 3 stops on our 7 day, hate to lose any, esp castaway cay. That must have been a bummer

Ugh - still haven't heard anything from DCL - we're sailing Fantasy on 1/29 - I wouldn't be too disappointed if GC was canceled, but please don't cancel Castaway Cay!
