Marathon Weekend 2023

2023 Marathon Weekend DIS List v2022_12_20

When I get more runners info, I'll update it again. Currently we have:

5k - 31 runners (23 yes/maybe to the pre-race meet!)
10k - 34 runners (29 yes/maybe to the pre-race meet!)
HM - 38 runners (35 yes/maybe to the pre-race meet!)
M - 52 runners (46 yes/maybe to the pre-race meet!)

Sorry for not posting sooner. Life gets in the way and I have not been on the forums is a while.

Shellotthill = Scott
Races: Dopey
Costume: none :(
Race Pace: Depends on the race.
5k/Half - 8-10 min./mi. (I will probably average around 9:20-9:30)
10K - I will be running the 10k with my DD, so that will probably be approximately 14 min./mi.
Marathon - I will be running with my DS (his first Marathon). Let's say 10-12 min./mi. I am preparing for the worst, so let's say we start fast and end slow and average an 11:00 min./mi. pace over the whole race.

Corral: Last year I was in S3 for Dopey. I assume it will be similar.

Our trip will be shorter this year, so we need to pack everything into a shorter time span. We will unfortunately not be able to make the pre-race meetups, but may be able to say hi the morning of the races.

MK is now scheduled to be open until 1am the night before the 5k. I'm insanely considering it. How bad of an idea could it be? We have no parks scheduled for Thursday (other than some photos at Epcot). I guess I'll ask my family what they think.
Another enabler here- I'll be at the AH event at HS, so I say go for it! YOLO! I also have no other plans for Thursday so I figure I can take an early nap and laze around the rest of the day.

Another thank you to @DopeyBadger! This guide is amazing and so helpful!

I'm avoiding housework today. Here are in-park bathrooms on the tracking map for the half marathon, indicated by a yellow arrow. The arrow at the very top of the MK map is the bathrooms by Pinocchio. The arrow at the very bottom of MK is the bathrooms before you go under the "tunnel" onto main street.

And here are the marathon in-park bathrooms. There was also a large bank of portas in the Blizzard Beach parking lot for the '22 marathon.

the one the cuts down from Liberty Square toward the treehouse? Yeah. According to the runner tracking map we run through that tunnel that has the bathrooms in it.
On the plus side, you may get hit by a spitting camel!

I think the sharp U-turn in front of Splash Mountain may be a bigger choke point, but we'll see...

Last year, we did the same u-turn, but during the half marathon (instead of the marathon), and I don't remember it being a big problem...

Given that we will now be approaching from Adventureland, though, I do worry about the two-way traffic before/after we get to the u-turn... (see the red circle area)

Super odd question. Is the finish area covered with Wifi or is it only limited to the parks and resorts? I'm coming from Canada so trying to figure out if I need to buy an eSim or I'll be fine with Wifi. Mainly wondering since my group would need some sort of connection to find each other at the end.
The eSim route is the way to go.

I'm still over here hoping for the same weather as th 24th and 25th. Sorry to everyone who wants warmer temps. And my family who's coming from Brazil and this might as well be -15F.

We did that in 2018. Oh that was NOT fun.

Don’t wish too much for drastic temperature drops unless you like rain. When FL gets cold fronts we always get massive rain storms first which sometimes includes thunder and lightning.

ETA: My memory sucks lately. I believe the storms before a cold front is what canceled the 2018 half during MW.
