The Running Thread—2023

For those of us not at Disney this weekend, things may seem a little quiet. So how about a
QOTD: What are you looking forward to with running this year? Otherwise known as 2023 Goals.

Given my increasing age and injury quotient and decreasing speed, I have to look at non-race based goals. I guess I'd like to be able to always be ready to run a half marathon. Whatever regular running keeps me in that shape is what I am aiming for.

I am trying to decide, though, if I should try one last "healthy" marathon (my last marathon was MW 22 and I was injured). I have guaranteed entry into New York this year, given that I broke my foot last year and had to cancel my registration. So I am thinking about signing up and giving it a go. I don't know if that is a great idea, but we'll see.

Finally, on a whim, I signed up to run the half at The Dramathon in Scotland in October.....could make a nice trip.

ATTQOTD:
My 2023 Goals:
I want to get faster, so I’d like to add speed work into my training. I tried to add it to the current training plan, but ended up with achilles tendinitis and now I just need to focus on keeping up fitness for Princess.

Specific speed goals, in order from most to least likely:
get my half marathon under 3:00. PR is currently at 3:03:03
get my 5K under 35:00. PR is currently 35:59
get my 10K under 1:15. PR is currently 1:16:50
get my 10 Miler under 2:10. PR is currently 2:13:32

QOTD: my first goal is a successful, fun completion of all of the PHM races - it’s my first multi-race rD weekend.

Second, I’d love to PR a bucket lists half im registered for in June!
Princess is my first multi race weekend with the 5k and 10k. I’m starting to put together my recovery plan between races, knowing full well I’ll be doing park time but figuring out when to call that a day and head back to my room. I’m putting together some yoga routines I can do in my room to help my legs bounce back.

Yes!! Between the parks and races, this is the first time I need to really think about recovery like that. Great points! I also just bought a travel size foam roller.

ATTQOTD:
2023 goals...

  • Run a marathon under 4 hours ✅
  • Keep consistent with training
  • PR in half marathon
  • PR in 10k
  • Become more consistent with cross training
First goal achieved. Ran 3:50:45 at WDW Marathon on the back end of Dopey!!
Congrats!!! That is a wonderful accomplishment. I didn't set a PR in Dopey when I ran in 2018, but I did BQ, so I get that totally jazzed feeling. (I'm old--the BQ times are slower! :) )

ATTQOTD: 2023 goals
  • Enjoy 😊 all the year will bring
  • Do not set goals that I won’t really commit to achieve aka strength training or perfect eating habits
  • See if I can find my fast gear back for shorter distances. Focus on potential 5k and 10k PR.
  • Complete all of my already full racing calendar (thanks 2020):
    5k des Érables
    Disney Springtime Surprise Challenge
    Ottawa 59.2 Challenge
    Demi-Marathon Vignobles
    Demi-Marathon Ptit Train du Nord
    Marathon NYRR
  • Race a triathlon Sprint w DD

QOTD: I don't have a lot of running goals in 2023. It is going to be a very busy year work-wise with long days so I'll go with these three:
  • Finish Boston respectable (around 3:30-3:40) but I'm not going for a re-qualification
  • Keep running consistently through the work projects
  • Concentrate on short race speed and aim for a 1-mile PR (5:27) and to get back under 19:00 for the 5K. I got within 17 seconds but then needed to build in some recovery before starting Boston training and couldn't get those last 17 seconds.

ATTQOTD: 2023 goals.
My main one was finishing Dopey upright and with a smile on my face. Done and done! I've been so focused on prepping for Dopey, I haven't planned any farther out. I was considering trying for a HM PR but haven't committed to a race as I wasn't sure how Dopey recovery would go. I'm going to have to set one or 2 actual goals.

ATTQOTD: I don't have a lot of defined goals for 2023 because of how much my life has changed recently, so I only want to stay consistent. I'd also like to run more new races in new places I've never been, so I'm thinking about that for the fall.

And stay healthy. I did that in the second half of 2022, I want to keep that up!

My goal from 2023 is just to be more consistent. I had a great running base in 2019 into 2020 and then Covid happened and then I had a baby and have never gotten back to that point. So for 2023 -

Run 4 days a week
Walk 1-2 days a week
More stroller runs
500 miles for 2023

Eventually, I want to get back to race shape, but that’s another goal for another time.
