Aidan's wish trip to Tink's home 3/1-3/7

Thank you so much for sharing your pictures! It looks like Tink and Terrance really tried to give your daughter some special attention. After everybody's responses, I feel so much better about choosing 7 days over 4. I think that we can still enjoy our full week and spend some quality time with Tink just the same. Your pictures were great and brought the whole experience to life. Thank you!

Okay, if Toon Town is closed for the expansion, will Pixie Hollow be relocated temporarily or just not exist? That's where we were planning on meeting Tink, and now this. :confused3

ToonTown isn't closing until Sept 2010, I believe. I read it on another thread, and am 95% sure it was Sept, but it's definitely NOT until fall! :woohoo:

Thanks, Amanda! I read that on the other thread, and to be honest, I was feeling a little bit frustrated. Tinker Bell is the center of Aidan's Disney wish, and we keep running into these little bumps in the road. I am determined that he WILL meet Tink, but I hope that it stays a simple process instead of me having to go to the end of the earth to make it happen. You, maroo, and the other guys get full credit if I can keep my sanity until our trip!

Update from MAW! :woohoo: I just talked to our wish coordinator. She said that the hold up has been because Aidan's doctor's office has not sent their paperwork back yet. I called the nurse at their office and she is going to try to go ahead and get one of the doctors to sign it and get it faxed back in today. Our wish coordinator asked when we were hoping to go, and I told her that we had requested the first or second week of March. She checked GKTW to see if they had space and she said that either week will be fine as long as the doctor's office gets that paperwork back ASAP! So, I'm still hoping for March 1-7! Hopefully we'll know something within a few days! :jumping1:

:cool1: now lets all call that doctor and make him get it signed today!! J/K
I really hope you get that week so we can meet up. Im sure our boys would love to play together.

You will certainly keep your sanity, my friend! You guys are going to have a great time!

Enjoy the planning time as much as you can - because it will fly by and is such a special part of the trip itself...anticipation of the trip is almost as fun as going! :) Well...almost. ;)

That figures. I work in a medical office and know how that works. Your doctor probably has not even seen the paper yet. :rolleyes1 lol

But of the nurse gets on it to get it signed, you guys should be good to go! :) Woo Hoo!!!

 If you only knew how right you are! They can't find his paperwork! :scared1: I just talked to the nurse again, and his paperwork is nowhere to be found -- not in his chart, not on any of the doctors' desks, not in their boxes. :scared1: However, his doctor is in for the rest of the afternoon today. They told me if his wish coordinator could fax it before she leaves, then they will get it sent back immediately. So, I've left a message for his wish coordinator. Let's hope she gets it . . . SOON!

Okay, wish coordinator just called us back. Paperwork has been resent directly to the nurse's fax machine. Keep your fingers crossed that they get it back today. Wish coordinator says that as long as she gets that paperwork back, we are tentatively scheduled for March 1 through March 7! :woohoo:

I have been where you are with the doctor's loosing paperwork. I hope everything works out today for you and you will be on your way so soon! I am also happy that you are going to get to see Tink and Toon Town while they are both in one place. His wish will work out and be magical. :tinker::tink::tinker::tink:

Hi, guys! I am working on a rough draft of our itinerary, and I need your help. I want to know what some of your must see's and must do's are. What shows do you have to see? What rides do you have to ride? Which restaurants are just too yummy to pass up? We plan on going to Gatorland, SeaWorld, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Magic Kingdom, MGM, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Kennedy Space Center, and Downtown Disney. Yes, we are going to be trying to fit a lot in! For that reason, I have to have a good plan. It cannot be set in stone, because we have kids. :rotfl: But we do want a basic idea of where we are going and what we are doing. I've got the days planned out; I just need to figure out our main objectives for each park.

I have made ADR's for Rainforest Cafe, Crystal Palace, and Playhouse Disney at Hollywood & Vine, but they can be changed. What are your opinions on these places? Any other character dining that you feel is better than these? Any other casual dining (i.e. counter service, etc.) that you recommend?

I'm going to kinda switch gears right here for a minute and ask a question about the flights and attractions. Aidan (6 yo) and Chris (dh) both have motion sickness. It isn't severe in the car, but I wonder if it will be worse with the flight and/or park rides. I do not have motion sickness, and we have never traveled since Aidan was born, so I'm not sure what to do here. I know that all of my kids are old enough to take Dramamine. My questions are: 1) Do you have experience with using motion sickness meds? 2) Which do you feel are most effective or which would you recommend? and 3) Should I go ahead and give them the Dramamine or other OTC motion sickness med before the flight or wait to see if they get sick? Like I said, I'm completely at a loss on this one.

Okay, that's all the questions for now. I think. . . :rotfl:

Miranda,

I can address motion sickness questions because my family suffers from this BIG time (my older brother and I, and my oldest daughter since infancy). I find Dramamine works great for my oldest daughter, and have been giving it to her for years. It comes in a chewable form (that she dislikes, but still takes). I give it to her whenever I think she is going to be in a car for more than half an hour, before bus rides (buses are bad), and before plane flights. The conventional wisdom (that I agree with) is that it's too late once a person feels nauseated --you've missed your window to give meds. Anti-emetics must be given prophylactically (I learned this big time with my wish kid, who gets sick as a dog on chemo, and is on big guns anti-emetics). Give them BEFORE the trip (1/2 hour to one hour before is recommended).

Other suggestions aside from Dramamine are ginger -- many people swear by it but it can be difficult getting a child to take -- and those "sea bands" they sell at the drugstore. They come in child sizes, and work on some acupressure theory. I have used the bands on top of other meds when Elke was getting some really heavy IV chemo, and the hospital was actually giving them out to their pediatric oncology patients.

As for rides, watch our for anything that spins (Mad Hatter's Tea party, Astro Orbiter, etc). I know that some simulator rides can cause motion sickness, but my daughter did not have an issue with Star Tours when we were there when she was younger. For that matter, she also rode Mission: Space, but I had given her Dramamine beforehand. She does get very sick on planes without Dramamine though, and I have spoken to people who have trouble with planes and not with cars.

Dramamine has been a lifesaver for us. My mother relied on it for my older brother, who practically got sick at the mere sight of the car, and I have used it for years with my older daughter. I have never seen any adverse effects from its use.

Aidan's doctor's office called yesterday. The doctor had filled out his paperwork, but they needed a list of all of his medications, since his specialists prescribed a lot of them. So, I went over his complete list (all 19 of them!) while I had her on the phone. Supposedly, she was ready to fax it once she had that information. So, the paperwork should be sitting on our wish coordinator's desk. Back to waiting again. :rolleyes1

I also talked to our mobility specialist, and they are hoping to have Aidan's new special needs stroller and braces before our trip. They are waiting for insurance approval on both, but they are supposed to have an answer within 30 days. Then they are going to put a rush order on the braces. The stroller will only take as long as shipping, so if they order it as soon as the insurance authorization goes through, we should have it by the end of February. I hope. Keep your fingers crossed!

Just wanted to say I completley agree about the dramamine. It's a lifesaver!
As for attractions, rides. We have never been so I cant say for sure but are must do shows are Wishes, Nemo, FOTLK, Believe (SW). Rides are soarin (epcot) TOT and Toy Story Mania (HS) Safaris, Kali river rapids (AK) Manta (SW) Jimmy Neutron,The simpsons ride (US) I think thats the short version of our must do's.
Congrats on getting the stroller and brace going and hope it's there before the trip. Im working with Gavin's PT to try and get one before our trip.
