Are we crazy?

I am having serious Disney withdraw. My husband swore he wouldn't go until the mask mandate was completely gone. We can only go in the summer and it's now our idea of a good time if we have to wear masks when it's 100 degrees outside. Well....we have been trying to plan a 4 day getaway somewhere and just couldn't decide on any one place. Except for Disney. We are looking at 4 days and not doing any parks. Just hanging out at our resort, Disney Springs, and a water park. Are we crazy or would you do it?
It really depends on what it would cost you to do this little get away. You may have to factor flights, food, and hotel. If doing this little get away isn't crazy expensive then I say why not, but if you could do a little get away someplace cool closer to home I would vote that option. Personally for me it would be far to tempting to be at WDW and not be able to go into the parks. I don't think i could do it.

Another factor is your jobs -- will they require quarantine/testing upon return because you are leaving the state (if you are)? My job, which is in healthcare recently was having anyone traveling out of state to only return to work after a negative covid test (which could mean an additional 3 days until results came back. Now because we have been vaccinated we no longer have to test upon return.

I don't think your crazy but I wouldn't plan this trip for our family. IMO, there are so many places in the US where you can enjoy a good pool, shopping and nice restaurants. I would look for one without the Disney price tag and crowds if I wasn't going to enjoy the parks. What part of the country are you from? Maybe we can help you with some other ideas?

I would do this in a heartbeat! For the plans you listed, I would either stay at SSR or one of the Disney Springs resorts. I would most likely look at one of the DS resorts, since they are usually less expensive than SSR.

We've visited before without doing the parks. I think if you're doing a water park and the pool, that takes up a good amount of time. Couple that with resort hopping for some meals and Disney Springs, and you can easily fill 4 days. We are Universal fans and have visited City Walk in the past for an evening, without doing the Universal parks. Universal's Volcano Bay is also an amazing water park, better than Disney's IMO.

For me living thru cancelled vacation after vacation in '20 I was actually feeling very claustrophobic. We finally managed to hang on to the Nov. '20 vacation (the Dolphin open the week we arrived), we returned in March' 21 and our May '21 is around the corner. We have a July '21 planned but might be cancelled if no fireworks. November was 8 days = way too long with masks (sore ears). March was 6 days and perfect. April's 6 days and July 5 days. March we had 1 park day and July has no park days. Obviously, I don't think your crazy.

I would go in a heartbeat! My hubs and I went to Universal last July (I know, not Disney) and even though the parks were open, we spent very little time in them. It was freaking hot and those masks can be killer! We actually spent way more time going to the waterpark (Volcano Bay) and hanging out by the hotel pool. Once you got into the water park, it was mostly mask free (necessary in shops, dining, restrooms, etc). Hands down one of my favorite trips to Universal.

We‘re going to Disney in May and I plan to spend way more time relaxing by a pool this trip. Parks are great but the long lines and mask requirements can wear in on a person. I, for one, can’t wait to get back to Blizzard Beach...and all the delicious food at Disney Springs.

Some of the comments is a good reminder how different the states really are when it comes to COVID. I personally think with the rate of vaccine rollout June will be much different than what we see today and therefore mask enforcement may be different as well. I don't think it's out of the question it may only be forced indoors by then.

We didn't want to go with masks, but our with drawl has us booking our first Summer Trip

I also wouldn’t pay Disney prices if not going to the parks. You also have to wear a mask 100% of the time unless you’re in a room or eating.

My social media timelines were full of people (adult only and families) in the Orlando area last week for spring break. Everyone I saw stayed at beautiful offsite resorts where they could walk around maskless (from what I saw), visited Disney springs, ate out and did universal parks plus other Orlando attractions. Volcano bay looked great!

If it were me I would do just that. There’s so many nice places to stay in the area. You could get so much bang for your buck and still visit Disney springs or eat on property. Get your water park fix at volcano bay or a Disney one. But it does look like volcano bay is much nicer than the Disney ones.

I go to Las Vegas and I do not gamble. I enjoy running each morning, going to the spa, laying out for a couple of hours, shopping in the heat of the day, then dinner and a show every other night. We enjoy the time away and seeing the expansive hotels and casinos etc. We have gone on beach vacations with others but never laid a day on the sand. We will run, bike, go to the spa, enjoy fun meals out, and/or cookouts with all. (Sand is not our things. The pool for an hour or two is our fav.) I could easily go to WDW and not go to the parks with some preplanning. I would just r and r, eat at some great places, go resort hopping, spend some time in the sun, do a progressive dinner at monorail resorts, go to Disney Springs and just take it easy in general. It is just nice to get away especially after this past year. Have fun!
