Aulani in August

We have been waiting to hear about the date of a family wedding in 2014. Now, we can finally plan our Hawaii vacation.

We can go in Early August and our plan is to do Maui and Oahu.

We can't book our DVC room until January for August. What is it like then as far as availability?

Thank you!

We did a late July/early August trip to Aulani back in 2012. I booked the minute our 7 month window opened.

I had originally hoped to get a studio standard view to save on points but had to do 2 categories up and spend more points for the poolview category.

Other than that, there was availability, so be prepared to have some flexibility in your room category... and its helpful to have a little flex in your dates as well. The lower point category's seem to get snatched up first. So if you have the points for an ocean view or pool view that is helpful also.

Just be sure to be ready with your computer all logged into the DVC website and ready to hit book right when the 7 month window opens that morning.

We also did Oahu and then flew over to Maui for a few days .... it was a great trip!

Thanks Pam! We are hoping to do Maui too:) Unfortunately, we don't have a ton of flexibility in dates. We could flip and do Maui first and Aulani second or vice a versa, but we will be locked in to certain dates due to the wedding. It's in California in Mid-August. So we are doing it as a stop over from Hawaii back to Texas.

Did you do Oahu from Aulani or stay somewhere else as well?

The first time around we did all our touring from Aulani. It was just DH and I for our anniversary.

Touring from Aulani worked fine, we would tour in the morning and then hang at the resort in the afternoon. We found ourselves tiring of having to drive into Honolulu for everything (with the exception of our trip to the north shore).... and to be quite honest the resort was so great.... it made us not really want to leave.

So this time for our trip with our boys we are doing a few days in Honolulu first to do Pearl Harbor/Diamond Head/ museums ect. Then we are out at Aulani for the next phase where we plan to do less touring and more relaxing at the resort.

Hello!

We're doing Maui and Oahu this August as well, but at the end of the month. We're starting in Seattle with two days to visit the Museum of Flight and the Boeing Factory. Then we have 6 nights in Maui. We're in the Marriott Vacation Club, too, so we were lucky to snag a unit at the Maui Ocean Club - Lahaina and Napili Towers. We're still thinking about activities, but we've booked an ocean raft snorkeling trip. We're also planning to do a day sail to Lanai, and maybe try surfing lessons again. We'll try to find a hike or walks around Haleakala. We end with 7 nights at Aulani. We're likely to try stand-up paddling lessons and one of the sailing excursions from Ko 'Olina. We'll definitely spend a day on the North Shore. Whether we drive over to the east coast (which is beautiful and which has, at Lanikai, an amazing beach) is up in the air. We might do that in combination with a Manoa Valley hike. We'll stay out of Honolulu and Waikiki. Been there, done that. Our girls probably are too young to appreciate Pearl Harbor, but next trip we'll visit there. We don't want to overplan, because both of the resorts have so much to offer that we want to enjoy them, too.

Happy Planning! There is a lot of great information out there.
