We flew out of Buffalo this past March and that's exactly what we did MaMudduck 
..... just simply used garbage back ties and everything held together just perfectly. Als on on our trip back we ended up with a note in one of our bags to say it had been inspected but everything was back in it's place and we wouldn't have know anyone had gone through it had it not been for the notice they put in.
