Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Not sure about Saturday morning. You and Liz will probably be in the same corral going by your numbers. Not sure you got my reply back on FB, but I will be arriving Friday morning around 9:30 and plan to head to the Studios then before the Expo. I'll be waiting for Liz to arrive and we'll go to the Expo together. We're heading to Epcot for dinner. Will you be able to do ToT between 11 and 1 or so?

11 - 1 won't be a problem. Steph and I have the 5K in the morning and we should be getting to HS around 11 (looking forward to being hurled down an elevator with you:scared1:). Anyone else joining us?

Karin, I hope your knee feels better by next month. I have been going to a chiropractor for years and I think it has made a difference.

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!!:santa:
Joe

Thanks Joe! I'm planning on going back at least one or maybe two more times before the race.
Good luck to you & Steph on your 5K!

Where are you guys meeting up on Friday nite for dinner in Epcot? We don't get in until 1:00 & then I'm heading to the Expo. And there is NO WAY on God's green earth I would go on the ToT - the plane ride to FL itself is enough terror for me. :rotfl:

Hello Ducks! Hope everyone is ready for the half and full! How is the knee, Karin? I am planning on going to the expo on Thursday, so I can probably meet you for a ToT drop, Joe. Hey, if the lines are short, let's go for two! (or three....)

Have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year! See you in a few weeks!

Augie

Hey Ducks! Haven't been on in a while. Bum knee & PT, not much running, yadaa yada..

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday & best of luck to everyone doing Marathon weekend! All of a sudden I wish I was going to be there! Picked the Princess instead- maybe next year!

Thanks Augie!
I'm getting excited! I really hope to meet everyone in two weeks!
My knee is getting better. Doing my stretches & exercises every day.

Thanks for the chiro reassurance, Joe.

Wish you were going to be there too,Shannon! I'm doing the Princess next year.

Last question.. does anyone wear an ACE bandage? I'm thinking of getting one for knee support.

Happy Holidays Ducks! :) We had a great trip to WDW last week. Christmas in Disney is extra magical!!

Today I had an 11.5 mile run planned. I was not motivated much, but I had a friend lined up to watch my boys so I went. Less than half a mile into it my Garmin ran out of batteries. No biggie, I used my iPhone clock and planned to run for 2 hours 15 mins which would get me to around 11.5. Went for a couple miles or so and then my knee started hurting...then my other knee...then my Achilles.... Took walk breaks, stretched, started running again, over and over. Motivation rapidly decreased and I said to heck with it. Went home after being out for an hour.

Oh well! I'm not bothered by it. I plan to do a few shorter runs this week and next, plus hoping to do 8 miles this weekend. We'll see though, I'm not stressing over it! I'm just ready for race day now!

How's everyone doing as 2010 comes to a close? It's hard to believe the first decade of the 2000's is already over.

Love this positive outlook, Liz! Sounds like Disney refreshed you! Now, you get refreshed again in a few days! Lucky, you!

I wore one of those neoprene bandage on my knee after the Air Force Half, when my knee was bothering me, it helped out on my training runs.

Liz: hopefully the leg problems was a result of all the walking you did around Disney last week :thumbsup2.

Have a Happy New Year everyone, stay safe. I am looking forward getting to Orlando next week, the high of 70's are looking pretty good right now.:cool1::cool1:

Liz: How are you feeling? Have you been out for a run since?

Joe: I got a knee strap which has helped tremendously! Ran eight miles on Sunday & 4 miles last night w/o pain. Today I go back to the chiropractor.

So excited to get to Florida! I'm ready to go NOW! :yay:

Liz- way to go w/ the positivity!!

Joe- I see a doctor of PT whos also a 'performance enhancement specialist'. He says braces & bandanges are only minimally effective & only at the very onset of trouble. You're better off strengthening your core, opposing & surrounding muscles which in turn will support the knee. That's his 2 cents anyway. I haven't tried my strap support yet.

Are we going to try to meet up the morning of the half, or just plan on a group meet for the parade and the fireworks Saturday night?
Joe

Joe, I'd be up for a pre race meet in addition to Saturday night! As long as Carissa is up for it!

Not sure about Saturday morning. You and Liz will probably be in the same corral going by your numbers.

Carissa, at W&D we met up in the start area and then headed to our different corrals when it was time. It was fun to be together and share pre race jitters. lol And Joe and I may be a corral apart....I'm thinking he'll be in the corral ahead of me, but you may be right too.

Karin, Carissa and I will be going to the Expo Friday afternoon, maybe 2-3ish? (My flight lands at 11am, and I'll head to POP via ME...then we'll meet up at some point and go to the Expo.) And then we have an ADR at Chefs de France at 5pm.

I'm glad I'm not the only one afraid of ToT!

:yay:

I feel fine, thanks. :) I felt fine after my Tuesday (non) run. It was mostly a mental thing I believe. No running since, but WILL this weekend for sure while dh is home.

I'm glad your knee is doing better. I hope it continues to improve! I'll hopefully be getting my knee taped by the KT Tape people at the Expo like I did for W&D. I really think it helped.

Shannon, Laura, Augie and Renee, HI/thanks! :)

Did you all see that you can email RunDisney and find out your corral? I'm not planning to nor suggesting it...but I admit the impatient side of me is tempted! ;)
Happy last day of 2010 to all my Duck friends! Should we start a new thread for 2011 tomorrow?

Happy New Year, Ducks! A little early...

I flew to my parents home near St. Louis on Christmas Eve day. Didn't get any running in, but lots of visiting with family and eating waaaay too much.

Flew back to Edmonton on 29 December and just got my luggage today. I'm using the excuse that my running shoes were in my lost luggage...that's why I haven't run for a week!

Good luck to all the Ducks heading to WDW for Marathon Weekend soon! I'm thankful that it's not me, as I don't think I would have had the motivation to train all fall/winter for it this year. But kudos to y'all making the trek! I'm sure you'll make us proud in your participation and performance.

Looking forward to 2011, as it brings a new (unknown, as of yet) job. I'm planning on the W&D Half next fall, so that should get me motivated through the spring and summer.

Quack on, Ducks! Here's hoping for a very healthy new year for all of us.

Renee

Happy New Years Ducks. Can't believe the marathon weekend is next weekend. I feel so not prepared and I didn't get much running in this week since we have been in NC visiting my mom since Christmas eve. Planned on getting an 8 miler done on Sunday but now we aren't driving home until Sunday so there goes that. I did 2.64 miles the other day while we were up here. It was really neat with the snow everywhere. I had to watch for ice in some areas and it was pretty hilly which I am not used to at all. I had planned on going out and back which would have given me probably a little more than 3 miles but my DH came and picked me up on the 4-wheeler - I was getting a little warm and didn't have any water with me. Thankfully I was able to grab some snow off the side of the road (way off the side of the road!!) Unfortunately I now have a stuffed up nose and head - hopefully it will clear up before next weekend. I can't breathe!!! UGH

Happy 2011!

Where is everyone staying?

Liz & Carissa: POP
Karin: Bay Lake Towers

Liz: How was the KT tape the day before last year's race?
I read you can keep it on for up to five days.

I was thinking of trying that instead of my knee strap.
Going to Dick's today to get some tape to try it out.

I'll PM you my cell & anyone who wants it. :rolleyes1

HAPPY NEW YEAR DUCKS!!

Boy am I steamed!!! Here's why: we have a bunch of timeshares. I was goofing around on RCI yesterday to plan our next vacation (non-DVC) & what did I see??? A 1 bedroom villa at OKW starting 1/7!!! You almost NEVER see DVC come up!! And here it was for Marathon week & I'm not even going!! If we didn't just come back from the Keys I would have booked it in a hot minute! And the whole thing would've been SO CHEAP!! like under $1000!!:scared1:

I feel like there's a lesson here somewhere but I'm not sure what it is!

MaddyKins--What do your therapists say about the KT tape? I tried it during the W& D & it didn't do a blessed thing & in fact the knees felt better once I took it off. But then some folks swear by it. Who knows. I can tell you that I heard A LOT of complaints that it didn't stay on at all, much less for 5 days. Maybe if you didn't shower...

We still have to get together for some runs! Maybe in the spring when your marathon endurance has worn off some :):goodvibes

Shannon, you have such better will power than I do. I would have booked it! :rotfl:

Hmm...I'm surprised about the KT Tape. My chiro said it works, but he said you really need to be comfortable with taping yourself. I haven't asked the PT's yet. Liz would probably be better on this subject since I haven't tried it yet. I HAVE to shower before I run. It's a weird morning wake-me-up that I am addicted to. Joe? Augie? Carissa? Anyone else try KT Tape?

And ABSOLUTELY we are getting together to run. I've learned my lesson running on the uneven roads. Give me Washington Lake Park!

LOL! Trust me Maddy--it was KILLING me! If I could've taken my son out of school again I would've done it! I was hating that I didn't know of any WISHers to get in touch with who might have wanted it!

Happy New Year to all the Ducks! Only a few days and it's off to DW! I will be at BW Thursday, leaving Sunday in the afternoon.

Regarding the KT tape, I used it at the W&D, not sure if it helped much, the ankle was still a little sore. There is a booth at the expo that will put it on for you also. I am going to bring mine with me just in case, but the ankle has been feeling fine. It did stay on for the race, but at other races it did come off.

Everyone have a safe flight down, and see you at the races!

Augie

Happy Sunday everyone. I am staying at the All Star Movies resort.
I wore the neoprene bandage on my knee for a couple of weeks after the WandD and I haven't needed it since. I haven't used the K-tape before.
I haven't been to this event before, where is a good place to try to meet up before heading to our corrals, or meet up after the race to celebrate? Looking at weather.com the forecast seem encouraging, good chance it won't snow.:hippie:
anyone getting in on Thursday, Steph and I are planning on spending the day at Epcot after the Expo and will be sticking around for Illuminations, look me up.
I found out I have a cousin doing the half also next week, I haven't seen him since he was little, that will be cool to meet up with him.
Well stay healthy everyone and see you next week.
Joe
