I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

Thank you for the input so far. I think I have decided to apply for the Chase Freedom Unlimited Card, but I have one last question...since I already have (2) Chase Visas and a Chase SW Visa, what are the chances that I will be denied? The last card I opened with them was in 2013. Also, any idea how long it takes for a freeze on my credit report to lift (temporarily) so that the application can go through? I have a freeze on my credit with all three agencies which I would need to temporarily lift if Chase is going to do a hard pull on my credit.

I think I got the pop-up
Most of us here have probably gotten the pop-up at least once. Some of us have gotten it many times. Sometimes you can get the pop-up when applying for one card, and then try for a different card and not get it. That happened to me last year. If you haven't already gone for the Chase card, you could try Amex again in incognito mode or try using a different link. Amex is weird. It's hard to predict what will work with them. Good luck.

I have a freeze on my credit and the lifts, once applied, are immediate. Usually I lift for 2 days, apply immediately and then if there is need for a recon call the lift is good for the next day.

As long as you're under 5/24 and have good credit, not sure why you'd be denied by Chase, especially for a Freedom Unlimited. Good luck!

24 hours should be more than enough. They shouldn't need to do a 2nd hp if you call recon.

I received an email to open a Chase business checking account. The main thing to do is park $20k there for 60 days to get $750. I'm find with that but I have $10k out for two AMEX business accounts for another 35 days or so. The email says I can also receive the offer by showing it in branch by 05/04/23. Does this mean I have until then to do it online as well?

Thanks so much, I will definitely look into that! I just happened to come across Avelo when planning our December trip and it worked out perfectly for us to fly out the Friday night that the kids got out of school for winter break, so I went with it. The prices weren't horrible, but by the time I added a carry-on and picking seats, it definitely added up.

How many days worth of clothes do you fit in your personal item, do you do laundry? We planned on 7 days for our last trip and actually ended up staying 10 days, due to the blizzard. With a personal item. + Carry-on I ended up having to do laundry, and it wasn't really as bad as I imagined. Plus we won't really need a lot of souvenirs since we've already done "the big trip", so you're inspiring me to try to convince my family we can just take a personal item 😁.
I go to Disney a couple of times per year, usually for about 3-4 days each time. I did the big trip about 10 years go, we went for 7 days and it was wonderful, but exhausting. Now I plan little trips to go down and maybe go to one or two parks and fill it with checking out the resorts, going to the campground and watching movies and doing smores, those kinds of things. We are taking a trip later this month for 3 days and hitting EPCOTs art and animation festival, going to try different kinds of foods from all over the world, checking out Downtown Disney and watching Hoop De Do Review. Our airfare to leave on Saturday night to Tuesday was $80pp. To me, staying at the best resort isn't worth it, because I don't plan on hanging out there, so we usually stay at the Disney Value resorts, but this trip I am using my UR points and got a stay at the Disney Dolphin, so we can walk to EPCOT.

Talking about luggage - I just purchased last night this new brand of luggage from a company called Take Of Luggage, the wheels come off the luggage when entering the plane and storing your luggage under the seat in front of you and then when you leave you put them back on, but you get a full 18" piece of personal luggage that is hardsided! I watched a lot of videos on Youtube and to me, a good piece of luggage at the right size helps me to know how much I can pack (I had a 10% coupon so it was $90). If it doesn't fit, it doesn't need to go. I also wear my jacket, jeans, and any other heavy items on the plane ride...I mean its Michigan and cold lol, then when we get there I shed those layers and they are there if it gets cold in Florida. I don't have to wait around for the luggage to be removed from under the plane, we just take it and go.

2022 Year in Review

I like to look back to assist with credit card maintenance and see if I've learned anything with my prior year of travel.

This is long (sorry) so feel free to skip!

Jan/Feb-

Stayed in Key West at the Hyatt Centric for a nice break on points-this is a favorite of mine for use of the 1-7 FNC since it doesn't have suites so I don't need to worry that the FNC isn't eligible

Then, since my DF was still very ill, I spent much of the remainder of Jan/Feb flying back and forth between PNS/HSV. I had discovered that I did better if I stayed in a hotel when helping DM, and I'm familiar with 3 in Huntsville-the Hyatt Place, The Jefferson (Hilton Curio) and the AC (Marriott).

DFIL died Jan 31st and DF died Feb 21st and I cannot express how grateful I am to Delta for allowing me to make last minute flights (literally had done laundry and eaten after returning from CA to turn around and fly back to HSV).

Lesson 1-it's good to have status with an airline, if for no other reason, the dedicated phone line!

Lesson 2-hotel points/FNCs are good to have for emergencies/last minute scheduling

Mar/Apr-DH and I recovered from funerals, paperwork and just the emotional exhaustion of two deaths close together.

May-
flew to BOS to help DD move out of her dorm room

flew to MCO and spent 3 nights at Universal HRH with family

Lesson 3-Express Pass and Early Entry is awesome (expensive, but worth it imho), as is the military ticket value

June-
flew very last minute to MAD since DD had lost her wallet in Brussels, then on Iberia to Seville, spent a week in Seville at an awesome Marriott Autograph Collection hotel

not my review but much better photos-

https://thebulkheadseat.com/hotel-review-querencia-de-sevilla/

Lesson 4-Spain is very pork/beef heavy (I lost weight there since I consume neither!)

Lesson 5- Iberia Air is perfectly fine for flying within Spain-old hard product but no complaints

flew Iberia again to Prague, spent a week there in both the Hilton Old Town Prague/Marriott Prague

Lesson 6- DD and I can no longer share a hotel room:rotfl:(she's quite messy)

Lesson 7-Marriott concierge lounge>>>>Hilton Old Town concierge lounge (in Prague)

Lesson 8-public transportation in Europe in record breaking heat is for the young/young at heart (next time, we're ubering)

returned home from Prague via KLM/Air France

Lesson 9-Air France business is fine but not my favorite

July-

flew to Austin where we spent a night at the Driskill Hotel (my favorite Hyatt hotel so far) and then several at Miraval Austin

September-

flew to MCO for a friend's birthday party and MNSSHP

Lesson 10-it rains in Orlando just as much as in Pensacola in September ⛈️

Oct/Nov

flew to MCO and took back to back cruises on the Wish, DCL's newest ship-for 4 nights we were in a 1 bedroom suite and 3 nights in a concierge family oceanview room. The DCL thread has lots of opinions on the Wish, but I actually like it more than the Fantasy/Dream...it surprised me, too!

Lesson 11-don't downgrade from larger to smaller cabins-the smaller cabin will feel SO much smaller in comparison
Lesson 11.5-apparently I'm a cabin diva too...:o

Nov

I looked at my Delta activity and was thisclose to obtaining Diamond Medallion status, so I flew PNS-ATL-JFK-EDI for a long weekend to achieve that random goal. Once again, stayed at my beloved Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa and was upgraded to the Castle Suite, which was awesome. They've renovated their lounge, which is lovely, although I don't like their new way of doing evening hors d'overs.

I flew back to the US via KLM and got my first ever Delft gin house, which was oddly exciting.

Lesson 12-T2 at JFK is still terrible, just...terrible-even the skyclub is not good :(
Lesson 13-if you're allergic to mango, don't eat the appetizer that has it included...also maybe carry benadryl

Dec

no travels, merely planning 2023...

I earned the following status in 2022 for 2023-

Diamond Medallion for Delta
Hyatt Globalist
Hilton Diamond
Marriott Titanium
United Silver via Marriott Titanium
AA Platinum Pro via Globalist status challenge

Amex Cards used the most-BBP, DL Reserve
Chase cards used the most-WoH business,, WoH personal and CSR

Status I will chase for 2023-
Globalist - Hyatt
Platinum -Marriott (with the biz/personal cc I already have 30/50 nights and have 10 reserved through May so this should be easy-ish)
Platinum Medallion-Delta

TL;DR-points, miles, FNCs and other benefits of credit cards remain very helpful in allowing me to travel much more extravagantly than I would without these things... and I've gotten a lot of use out of my beloved pink Away luggage💕

I forgot who asked, but I said I'd update on the Centurion lounge at SFO. It's finally open after months of being closed. It's larger, not sure it's better otherwise, and as of Monday only two of the new bathrooms there have opened (but one has a shower so that's nice). There will be more, but that's it for now.

Well I picked the wrong time to head down to FL for a few days of sunshine....I started off at the crack of dawn on Monday getting NO sleep before my 4am leave time, LOL. I managed to get on the flight. When I got to the hotel they had a room for me right away. So I enjoyed a full day of sun.

Well Monday afternoon ATC shutdown ALL flights in FL. Which made my trip home a headache. My original plan was to come home today (Weds) night. And the loads looked great when I left on Monday. Throw in all the cancelled flights and every flight home was oversold by 3-7 people, with another 10+ listed! So panic set in. I spent yesterday running all the scenarios, all the airports, etc.

I finally decided to try my luck last night on the FLL to DTW flight. I need a miracle, 17 no shows! I figure the worst case scenario, I end up have dinner there using my PP privileges. Imagine my shock when they clear all the standbys and got to me! I was jumping up and down. AND THEN a girl runs to the gate as they are making my boarding pass. The gate agent looks at me and says, OMG I am SOOOO sorry. The girl was telling them to hold the flight as her entire family was at another gate. I was trying to explain to her, there is ONE seat, it's you or me...your family isn't getting on. So she gave me her seat! I was ecstatic! The FAs and CA were cheering me on as I boarded (I made friends with them while waiting, LOL). And then I get to my seat and someone is already there. UGH! I started to walk off the plane as the gate agent came on to finalize paperwork. He's like, NO! You have a seat.....So then I got to stand there once again chatting with the FAs and CA (who all apparently know my BF, lol). Sadly it was a computer error....so I didn't make the flight

So I ate my "free" dinner and headed back to the hotel. Now the direct flight in the morning had even more people on it (the family that missed the flight) so I was worried, but nonetheless tried to get some sleep. When I woke up the direct flight was more oversold. So I needed 12 no-shows to make it. There was another flight leaving 30 min early that was connecting through BWI. The flight from FLL to BWI, I needed 5 no-shows. The flight from BWI to DTW was wide open (40 open seats). I stopped at both gates, the DTW agent was unsure if I'd get on. The BWI agent said I likely should, but she also promised me that she'd give me enough time to run to the DTW gate if needed. It was 1.5 hours longer to do the connecting flight.....but in the end it's what I did. I was never happier to be row 27, LOL. For my 2nd flight I have the big front seat :)

I landed to my ex making me the bad guy because I'm forcing our kids to do their missing work vs allowing them to blow it off and spend break skateboarding/snowboarding/etc. Then my mom got mad at me because I wouldn't let her borrow my son "THAT MINUTE" to take down her Christmas decorations! I offered to have him take them down later tonight or tomorrow after he did some work. She's like maybe you shouldn't have gone to FL! Seriously? After the year I had, I can't take TWO DAYS to try and relax during MY break? Last week I had to spend MY BREAK doing stuff with her and my sister DAILY (when my sister was here from NJ)! She's yelling at me when my ex had our kids all last week and didn't bother to make them do ANYTHING! And originally my plan was to take the kids to FL, but since they were missing their work, that didn't happen!

My BF and I actually wanted to go to Vegas for tomorrow for 2 days, but looks like I can't now, since apparently I'm the world's worst mom 1- for making my kids do their missing work and 2- for taking TWO DAYS away to escape!

Okay vent over......

I think I figured out my FL dilemma. I'm going to drive down with the dogs for my daughter's spring break and fly her down and back from ATL. Then I'll just stay down there between her spring break and my son's and fly him down and he can drive back with me. He will be 18 but honestly the idea of him flying by himself and connecting scares me to death. I can get him into Tampa nonstop. And he only wants to fly first class. Really he doesn't want to sit next to strangers and I really don't know how to accommodate that.
My DD has been flying solo since 13 or 14. She loves it. Only problem is, now at 17, she thinks I should let her fly to NYC alone to see Harry Styles, or LA alone. Ummm, no!

I need by next Friday because we are leaving on vacation LOL.
Can you still get an IHG biz if you have an IHG personal? I know they changed some IHG rules. P2 hasn't had the biz at all yet. Do they expedite all biz cards?
I may end up just taking the crappy Delta upgrade he is being offered, just to get something and make a bigger decision later. He's already had the Delta plat twice, so the crappy upgrade doesn't hurt him at all for future purposes.
Yes, you can have the personal and biz. You just can't have BOTH personal cards anymore :(

Hi there! I too am from Michigan and fly out of Grand Rapids. Did you know that Frontier flies directly to Orlando from Grand Rapids? On top of that, if you buy your tickets at the airport, you save around $20-40 for each person in your group off the cost of their flight as compared to online! Round trip I usually spend between $50-80 per person in my group, that is us only taking a personal item and not paying for any extra luggage or seating. I have a piece of luggage that is as close to the allowed personal item dimensions as possible, that I use for all my trips and have never really run into any issues. If all your tickets are purchased with the same CC, your party will be seated together on the plane, no need to pay extra for seats then.

I know it must seem like I work for Frontier or something LOL, but I do not, I just really like their product and I am just looking for a vehicle to take me to Florida as cheaply as possible, they tick all the boxes.
Hello....East Side Michigander here :)

Youtube, or watch Tik Tok! There are lots of people who can pack for 2 weeks in a spirit personal item. There is also the "hack" of using a travel neck pillow and filling it w/ clothes. I had a friend to that, LOL.

Sometimes you can get the pop-up when applying for one card, and then try for a different card and not get it. That happened to me last year. Amex hates me! I got the pop-ups for well over a year (almost 2). I thought I was finally out of it when last year I was approved for the free Hilton card. But then I went to apply for the Delta Plat Biz and got the pop-up. So I have no clue!

I want to like the fact it's open but 😲at only two restrooms!

So I've gotten nothing from Barclay in email since I applied. I went to the website to check the status and it's saying there is no record of my application. I got alerts from all of the credit reporting agencies, so I know there was a pull.

Any ideas?

Did have 2 different sites for business and personal applications. Did you search the correct page?

Did have 2 different sites for business and personal applications. Did you search the correct page?

Thank you! I finally found the place to search that....and got this message

"Currently we are unable to offer you a credit card issued by Barclays Bank Delaware. Details on why we could not make you a credit offer will be mailed to you."

I'm sitting at 4/24. I recently closed my AAviator Biz in Dec and closed my AAviator personal card in 11/21. I know it took me like 7 tries to get them to approve the AAviator Biz card. UGH.

I have flights booked with SW for next week and Feb and am not concerned.

I’d book SW…flown them numerous times over the last 10 years to Orlando to see our son since it’s the easiest option from ISP….easy to say I know since we weren’t caught up int the mess last week
So when you book SW, do you choose the Anytime, the Wanna Get Away Plus, or the plain Wanna Get Away? I read the differences among the fares but I was wondering what the regular SW Fliers choose.

I want to go to both of these hotels in Austin any tips on booking Miraval I always see cash never points worth the splurge? i have an open hotel alert for the Driskell myself and wanted to check that out I have Thompson booked if I end up going.
Diamond is going to be hard to get this year to 20k oof. I can't hit the sky miles waiver either.
Also, love that hotel in key west and I too love the wish we've gone 3x there aare concierge staff is so nice.

We’re pretty serious about doing Japan next year but now we can’t decide between May or sometime in the fall (probably November). May is our first choice but I’m a little worried about the new Fantasy Springs opening at Tokyo Disney. It got moved to spring of 2024. So we could potentially miss it or the parks will be super packed right when it opens. Dh says we should go anyway and deal with whatever happens at the parks. He doesn’t think we should plan our whole trip around it which is fair.

We want to stay at Neko Neko Inn because we stayed with the same owner in her older Airbnb last time we went to Japan and loved her. She blocked out days for us for May but her October and November 2024 is already booked solid 😳.

Dh and I both applied for the Barclays AA red cards today and were approved. After we meet the spend on those two cards we’ll have enough points to book flights!!

I'd go in May and just hope it opens. It was supposed to open this year and I don't think anyone expected it to be delayed. No one knows what they'll do about tickets either. I think there's still a cap but I'm not positive. They still haven't started selling APs again either, if they decide to bring them back.

At this point I would plan a trip to any Disney park in hopes of something new opening by a certain time. I also think spring to them is before May.

I’m going to try to check in more. Our 2022 was pretty busy. We bought a house! DH and I now live in Orlando and we love being close to Disney. We cashed out a ton of points to help with the down payment and furniture costs. Thank you Amex!

We didn’t travel much in the beginning of the year because we were expecting to close, but it kept getting delayed. We went to Disneyland 4x last year. Once with my family, once with DH’s family, once with our friends and then on our first ABD. We did the backstage magic. Seeing imagineering was awesome and we enjoyed meeting and traveling with other Disney fans. But I’m not rushing to book another one. We felt like it was a bit slow paced and way too many buffets. DH is a bit of a germaphobe.

Other than that we did a few weekend trips. Went to Utah to see a friend and stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Park City. We used FN certs. Super boujee and it was nice being there in the fall. We also traveled to NYC a few times with friends and stayed at the Conrad Midtown. This was also a great value for FNs.

We are just starting to plan 2023 trips. I hope we can travel more this year. So far for 2023 we have a trip booked to New Orleans with a friend. We are using a corporate code and booked the Eliza Jane. We also booked a group friend trip to Hawaii. Flying to LAX and doing 3 nights at the Grand Californian on DVC points, then 5 nights at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, and 5 nights at Aulani. I’m also working on booking a trip to Europe. Our Italy trip was canceled in 2020 and we still haven’t been able to reschedule.
