Jambo! The newest AKL Information thread

What are the current pool hours?
This is one aspect I am not excited about. The last stay was at GF and the pool there was open 24 hours. It was great for an end of day dip in the hot tub.
None of the WDW resort pools are open 24 hours anymore for staffing/liability reasons. Same reason for the new fencing.

I don't like the change, either. I love hot tubs at all hours.

We have now stayed in each category of rooms, as far as view (standard, pool, savanna). A savanna view is a really neat thing, but we don't feel it's necessary. In fact, I'm not sure if we would pay for that category again. Pool views are pretty awesome, and standard views can be pretty variable from partial savanna view to parking lot. But sometimes there are benefits to those other sorts of rooms. On our last stay we had what we thought upon arrival must be the worst room on the property; it turned out to be steps away from the bus (literally steps) and a short walk to the pool and Mara (less than 2 minutes). The view was nothing special, but we were still at an amazing resort and the animal viewing was never far away. In fact we spent a good deal of time one evening wandering around the *whole* resort finding new and different vantage points from which to watch them.

Epecially if you're not going to be in the room a whole lot, I would think you're fine to go with the Standard View. Besides, it encourages you somewhat to get out of your room and explore the amazing resort as a whole!!!

That is awesome!! Makes me feel really good about our choice to move to the standard room. I also love the idea of exploring the resort as I know my boys will love that! Thanks so much for your feedback.

We had a 3rd floor standard view room on the Kudu trail in April, and had animal views 24/7 because there was a watering hole outside our balcony. Giraffe, zebra, ostriches, cranes & more would be there to have a drink and relax under the shade of the trees. The room didn't have a sweeping view of the whole savanna (hence the standard view designation), but we had a great view of the animals.

Made the switch, saved a pretty penny and just hoping for an awesome trip! Thanks for sharing your experience.

No, I agree. I loved the pool on our first trip to AKL. It was open and so, so beautiful when you stepped out the doors into the pool area. I was incredibly disappointed that the gorgeous view was altered by the fence when we returned for a second visit. At least the fencing material fits into the overall theme, but the entire look of the pool area has changed and not for the better, I think.
When we were there they had one waitress for the entire pool area and we were seated by the water slide in the shade. So, for me to go get a drink i had to put on my shoes (because the ground outside of the pool was not wet), exit the pool then walk to the bar, buy to drinks, then walk back to my side of the pool, put a drink on the ground, open the gate then go back to my chair...all the while I can see the bar right in front of me.

Its plain silly to have to exit the pool area to get to the bar from here.

Got all of my Dining Reservations that I wanted :)

Somehow I forgot dining began at 6AM EST online and not 7AM so I didn't start till 6:30AM, thankfully I don't have anything too insanely popular to worry about.

Trying Tiffins and Skipper Canteen for the first time this trip, but mainly sticking to our favorites this trip.

Recently back from our AKL stay (two nights at Jambo and one night at Kidani) and am I the only one who thinks the pool at Jambo is just awfully designed with how the fencing is?
That fence is new since our late 2015 stay. I don't like it but I don't think it's a big deal.

....my niece's friend won a trip to Florida [the Radisson, I believe] for 5 days. She has to eat GF [just like my DH] so I suggested they make a reservation for Boma.....well, they absolutely LOVED IT! Not only that, AKL is now on her bucket list for places to stay for the next time she visits WDW....

Can someone please tell me what type of coffee makers are in the room (pleasesayKeurig, pleasesayKeurig, pleasesayKeurig...)?

Not Keurig, Sorry :worried: I can't remember the name but it's the ones that take those coffee pods/pouches. They provide Joffrey's normally.

It has been years since I've been at AKL. Are there still organized pool activities for the kids?

...yes there are....I remember the kiddos especially loving the larger version of Jenga by the pool....
