Masks?

So I don't like the elastic around the ear masks so I was thinking of using the toggles from the bags but after I checked them out again the string is not stretchy so I will have to rethink what I use to keep my masks on. I may use the toggles with elastic or I may have to make mine with the elastic ears and then make the button holder for the back of my head. My other idea is to keep moving the 2 stretchy toggles sets that I have from mask to mask.
Here are the masks that I have made being modeled by my friends.

We have so many talented people on the Canadian forums.
I do love the models you are using.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful work.
Hugs

HALLELUJAH, you are someone i can relate to and speaks sense. I wont wear a mask and in the UK they are not mandatory. I am happy to wait to visit Disney until masks are a choice.
I just wanted to clarify any misconception regarding my post. NO where do I say that I don't think masks are a good idea or that I don't think people should wear them, because I do think they should be worn. I was pointing out that the only truly effective mask is the respirator style N-95 mask. All other masks be they home made or medical "procedure" masks are only effective if the are WORN correctly (providing a proper seal with no gaps around the nose or mouth). Many people (not all obviously) think that they become immune if they wear a mask. I have seen many people walking around with masks pulled down to below there nose...if you are going to wear it like this then you may as well not bother. Masks don't stop people from touching there face either, anecdotally I would say they make it more likely to touch their face as again they feel protected. The proper way to don and doff a mask it to wash your hands before putting the mask on in order to avoid contamination and to wash your hands prior to taking it off again, each and every time. The BEST and most important thing a person can do is to wash or clean there hands very regularly.

I have previously stated in other posts but I will do so here as well, that yes I am a direct care front line healthcare worker so i do wear a mask all throughout my shift. I also wear a mask when I am out in public. I do have Asthma that makes wearing a mask a real chore but I do wear a mask so that I can both help to protect myself and the small part of the worlds population that I interact with on a daily basis. And for the record I really hate wearing a mask, for a number of reason but I do it because it can help and I try to be a responsible member of society.

/End of rant.

For what it’s worth, I don’t feel that anyone was questioning your post but the response to your post. That was my take anyway.

I think all of us who were feeling frustrated by the poster who seemed super excited about NOT wearing a mask is/was a bit of a troll who is now no longer a problem ...

They apparently registered their account on Oct 27, 2019 but only had THREE posts and they were all in this thread. When i tried to look into their account further the above is screenshot of what's now available.

Thought it might be time to reshare these 2 pictures i posted here waaaay back on May 25th (gawd time is moving differently now isn't it???!!!??)
This one shows the effectiveness of wearing a mask with the understanding that the person on the left is infected and the one on the right is (currently) not

And this one is my thoughts behind wearing my mask and making masks for my loved ones to wear

File this comment under the "Please people, use some common sense!!" column.

There are several posts circulating on FB, in news reports and direct from my doctor's office with the following warning:
Reusable cloth masks MUST be washed after use. Please don't leave it in your car, hanging on a hook by your front door, stuffed in your purse or wherever you've decided is your dedicated mask safe spot.

Good grief, there are enough people who see the word "reusable" and think that means they can just slap it back on and all will be fine, that they have to tell us to wash the danged things?!?!?!?

My city just put these pictures on their Facebook page -- we're under a mandatory face covering order
I REALLY like the big bold section on the first one about not judging others (jut wish we didn't suddenly have sooo many people develop medical conditions over night that mean they "simply can't wear one due to my health")

I find it interesting this whole mask concept. I wear one when out and so does everyone in my family. For the first time since we were locked down, I went into a grocery store today. Only myself and one other person that I could see was wearing one. Now the store wasn’t crazy busy but there were enough people in there that I expected to see more. Maybe not as many people are wearing them as I thought there were.

Just an update: I received my Maritime Tartan Trading Co masks from Halifax and wore one this morning for a routine annual blood test at a local lab. No filter or filter pouch. Cotton only. While hot, it didn't ride up as much into my eyes or slouch down under my nose as other masks. I've washed it in warm water for a full machine wash cycle at least x3 now and its held up well. Elastic ear loops but not uncomfortable or painful to wear. They are $8 each plus tax and free shipping so not wildly $. However, it did take 5 weeks for me to receive in Ontario as Canada Post general delivery parcel post is horribly slow now. If you can wait, worth the time and $.

I also just received my delayed old navy mask order. Placed 5+weeks ago, received email notice 2 wks ago that it had "shipped" but UPS didn't pick it up for delivery. UPS delivered tonight so some hope for those who ordered 2 months ago and never received. I did get one order of old navy masks about 3 wks ago and have been wearing one of them. Very well made and has held up in warm wash in washing machine for 5x wash. But it doesn't fit me as well and hikes up into my eyes esp when I bend my head down to eg get a credit card out of my wallet. My hack for this is to extend my jaw down straight and that pulls the top fabric edge out of my eyes without having to touch with my hands. Cheap, well made and sturdy. But doesn't fit as well. Of course, fit is personal so YMMV. After the nearly 2 month delay between payment and receipt, plus the rumours of old navy and UPS fight, I'm not in a hurry to order again. Shame because not bad masks and the price is right.

Thanks for that, I appreciate it.
This! My comments were in response to the other comments made, not your post. Sorry if it read that way
Thank you as well for this, I wasn't reading it that way TBH, I just wanted to really make sure no one was thinking that as a whole. Again I appreciate you clarifying that though.

I Sure hope they were just trolling, and thank you for looking into that more in depth and sharing what you found.

Thanks all.

I have made several thousand masks during the last few months. It kept me sane as my husband and I navigated working/teaching from home, keeping my kids on track, and keeping my stress down. I donated more than half. Easy to make. (We have to wear them in MI)
Inquiring minds want to know! What style have you been making? Got any pictures you can share with us??

I was watching You tube videos last night and came across this newer style of mask. I thought I might give it a try to see if it really doesn't touch you face. I have a neighbour who has issues with masks that touch your face.

Breathable mask

everyone!

If this question Would be better on another thread please send me a link to another.. okay so I understand we have to wear masks which I’m fine with.. but has anyone heard how strict this policy is? Just because I really want to take them off just or pictures... do we think that would be allowed?
I just want to maskless pics with my husband other than that I will obey!! Lol

@Azziefan , I think you're talking about masks at Disney World. You might get an answer in the Theme Parks and Strategies thread. This thread we're talking about masks in everyday life, shopping etc.

From the reports that I've read from onsite bloggers who've been to both Disney Springs and Universal they are really enforcing mask wearing, strongly! One apparently lost a mask while in Universal and had to be escorted to a store to buy a new one. Disney parks aren't open yet so remains to be seen if they will be as strict or if they will allow some brief unmasking for pictures.

ALSO, this is the Canadian Forum (which you're more than welcome to be a part of regardless of your nationality, we're very friendly) so discussions over masks in this thread relate to our country, specific provinces - in my case my entire county is mandated to wear face coverings when we're in any business/service location - everything from restrictions that are mandated, to personal observations AND places to buy/order the masks that we can currently access.

Good luck and hope you enjoy your trip

I was able to purchase 2 boxes of masks before everything exploded. I was sooo happy I had thought of it for some reason. I also made some from fabric for us and other family members as well. The dh absolutely can't wear the fabric ones. His claustrophobia kicks into high gear. He does better with the paper ones. So I have given him a supply of masks to keep in his work truck for when he is required to wear one for site visits. I have also picked up a few extra from the drive through for his as well. I love that Kenny has done this for us Albertans.

My son who is is asthmatic, wears his masks frequently when he's on some job sites ( if it's required ) He has noticed that he needs to use his inhalers more too. It seems to be a high pollen year as well. So he is getting a triple whammy this year. Working in buildings where his allergies and asthma are triggered, then having to wear a mask and full face shield while working. He has done well with all of this.

I wear one if business requires it, or if my allergies are really bothering me. I hate getting the death stare when I'm out and about and all of a sudden I sneeze or cough or my eyes start watering because of allergies. Some people are wearing them here...but then I also see them constantly adjusting their masks and then touching everything else :crazy2: :scared: which drives me even more crazy.

So the other day I posted a couple of pics of my teddy bear friends wearing masks and my other friends felt left out so I made a mask for one of them. I was looking for a way to downsize the mask size for my nephews girlfriend and I came across a pattern to make masks for dolls and small teddies so I made one.

The other photo is my sheep friend with my Gordon
Don't know if anybody remembers the old Bell ad with Frank & Gordon - well I still have my friends and this one just happens to be wearing his scrubs.
It was a promotion I think for Sicks Kids Hospital in Toronto.
