Meet the Fockers! We're watching you...

Never hear of the Duchess one but we used to watch waiting for God years ago, a funny one is one foot in the grave :thumbsup2

Disney Jo, I highly recommend "Duchess of Duke Street". It is about a poor gal who pulled herself up out of nothing to reign over society, rules be darned!! I love stories like that. wonder why???:rotfl:

Slightly Goofy (who is now hooked on Netflix)

How about Upstairs Downstairs ! I loved that one !! The sitcom I still catch over here is "As Time goes by" it's hysterical!!

englishrose47, I can get Upstairs, Downstairs on demand from Netflix and plan to watch it even though I saw it some time ago.

"As Time Goes By" brings a tear to my eye as my bestest and dearest friend loved that show. She was 84 when she passed away a couple of years ago and we talked on the phone everyday. It tickled me that she loved the British shows as they are usually a bit ribald and she was so innocent she did not 'get it'. I do. :rotfl:

I grew upin a house that was Upstairs , Downstairs. The kitchen was in the basement( cellar) and even had the old servant bells still in the scullery. The servant rooms were in the attic, we didn't have a Living room instead a sitting room and qa huge dining room and the bathrooms ( toilets) were betwwn floors!! Of course we didn't have servants but that's how old the house was!!

Geez - I'm still the only one going in June?

I might be going in May, too! DH has a business trip in Orlando and I will play while he works.

englishrose47, I realize that what passes for an 'old' house here differs from your area but I do live in a house that is over 100 years old. I have many of the things that you speak of but the bathrooms are on the level. :thumbsup2

Servants quarters are wherever I choose to sleep. :rotfl:

Did you have a 'dumbwaiter"? Did you ride in it? Bet you did!:thumbsup2

Miz Diz, I have a dear friend who will be there the end of June but there does not seem to be a way that I can join her no matter how much I want to. :sad1: I would have liked to have met you as well.

I'll be there Aug 24 - Sep 21 @ the BC with my 16yo son. I'd love to be added to the list.

And to the fellow Massachusetts-ian, my two best tips for dealing with the FL heat:

(1) Buy a hydration backpack (I have a North Face and a Camelbak, I love both.). Fill it nearly to the top with ice from the hotel ice machine, then add cold bottled water to fill it the rest of the way. Not only can you sip at the icy water through the day, but the cold will seep through and keep your back cool.

My son and I usually go in August, which is easily the most oppressive time to be in central Florida. The hydro packs make it very close to bearable! To put this in perspective for those of you who know: we can actually spend an entire August day at AK without feeling like we're going to drop dead. :goodvibes:

(2) Also, you can get a special neck wrap... a long strip of cloth filled with water-absorbing polymer beads. (The beads are used for gardening, primarily, and they're in diapers, too.) You just soak the cloth in water and the beads absorb the water. The whole thing gets all fat and squishy, but not drippy; it's more like a gel. It's amazing, really, how cool this will keep you if you drape it around your neck. the cool feeling lasts for quite a long time, but when it starts to feel not-so-cool, just stick it under the water stream in a drinking fountain (in my experience, these run a bit colder than the sinks in the restrooms) to "refresh" it. The first one I ever bought was in AK back in '99, but I haven't seen them there since then. I got a few at a craft fair in Virginia a few years ago. I actually just make them myself now.

My 2¢.

Linda - your trip sounds fun. I may need to check the Mojito Monkey thread out. I will be there same time as you in Sept - but shorter trip for me. Mr Diz is not into meeting up with people from the disboards. Maybe we can sneak a meet up sometime.

Mr Diz bought one of those camel thingies and we have never used it. I'll suggest to him to take it on the next trip.

Danniebellie - nice long trip. I would love to be able to go on an extended trip like that.

Oh my how did I loose this thread? I am even on the list for this year. I do need to change my dates though. I will be there from Aug 24 to Aug 30. I need to subscribe here. So subscribing

Please add me to the June list - June 8th-14th AKL! I'm digging out my focker watcher lanyards and lgmh's right away!

Thanks!

Hi ya all!

Not a lot of time but I wanted to drop by and let you all know that all is well here. The hernia was in a different area than expected and could have been a very big problem if it had not been caught early with the CT for the other condition.

Tom is doing extremely well. Surgery was short, recovery even shorter. He has been eating since he got off the table and is eating me out of house and home.

The drugs must have been good cause he thanked me on the way home and said he was going to start treating me better. He is off drugs today.

I am using this opportunity to clean the kitchen as that is where he sits all day long. It needs it. Hard to clean around a man. :dance3:

Thank you all for caring and forgive me for sending this same message to each thread but it is all I can do. I am wore out. After all HE got to lay down yesterday, even if it were on an operating table. :rotfl:

SG/Linda (I will try to catch up with all you wonderful folks a bit later in the day, when my brain might be working)
