New ticket system coming to WDW - Begins October 16th

I've heard of LOTS of 'em...

But, I don't take them to WDW. :scared:

They will be visiting, so I added them on JIC. It is a villa so we can fit them in, and I do not want surprises later. If they don't come I know I can use their tix, which give me a good reason to book another trip!

Not sure how to plan this... We have some older 7 day tickets with pluses but what will happen to them come 2020? What if we buy tickets before Oct 16th to "save" money or will it wind up messing things up? We plan to go August 2019... of course anything can happen -the trip could get cancelled and if so, what happens then to them? Will they expire Dec 31 2019 necessitating a visit to guest services and an upcharge? will Disney honor the old rules and simply extend them? will it possibly be CHEAPER if I wait if we plan to go during a slower season?

will the way those very old (but on new medium) 7 day PHP tickets be treated differently after Dec 31st, 2019? The confusion is enormous..

All “old” tickets are not affected by the New Ticket restructuring.

If “old” tickets have an expiration date, that’s when they expire.

This throws such a monkey wrench in my planning. I was going to book a room only discount and add the Canadian ticket deal. That would lock me in at current ticket prices. But if the new pricing come out and tickets are cheaper, do you think I can change the tickets to the new pricing? We are going Feb 26 to Mar 6 which is predominantly value period prices currently.
What about booking two reservations right now? One the way you planned and a second room only discount without any tickets linked to it? It would require you to pay one night up front for the second reservation I believe but also offer you the option to add the tickets later if they're cheaper after October 16th?

Here is my bet...
(taking all action now in the aft portico of casino deck)
Nothing in the new structure will be cheaper than the current tickets.

I agree. My mom purchased all our tickets last week. I told her I don't remember the last time Disney
announced they were going to decrease the cost of tickets.

I bit the bullet and bought a 2-day PH and a 3-day PH for a possible trip next October with my family. Most of us already have days on old NE tickets that we will be using, but my DS22 has only one day left and his DGF has no ticket. Now, my other DS has a new DGF. If she ends up going with us, I'll have to buy her a ticket under the new system. I just didn't want to be holding on to three extra tickets in case the trip falls through. I can upgrade two of them into APs for my DH and me for our solo trip in 2021, but I didn't want to be with a leftover third ticket for several years. I hope I made the right decision.

I am going to WDW middle of Nov 2018. I am aware that Disney is changing the ticket system Oct 16. My question is, should I buy my ticket now or wait till I find out what the new cost will be? Will it be less expensive now or after the new ticket system goes into effect? I need a regular ticket for getting into the parks every day without a park hopper added for 3 days. I don't even know what they call those anymore, they change the name for them so often. LOL :-)

Nobody can officially say if they'll be more or less but we don't believe prices will go down. Most are choosing to buy now. It's a guess on everyone's part.

Today they have begun the changes with a complete website redesign for My Disney Experience.
It's terrible. Not surprisingly, they've messed up a bunch of accounts. Two linked tickets aren't showing and 5 of my planning party are nowhere to be found.

Have you logged out, cleared your caches and cookies and then logged in again? That seems to be fixing things for many people. If not, there is a number listed on the page that you can call.

Yes. I did all that this morning. It isn't showing on the app, either. I took a screen shot of the phone number to call. I'll give it a couple days and see if it works itself out. If it doesn't, I'll call next week.

Its all part of the upgrade unfortunately. People have been having things appear and disappear over the last few weeks frequently but they pretty much always return. Its frustrating but don't stress too much.

I thought that you either get the number of days allowed with the ticket or the number of nights on the package, whichever is longer. So for an 8-night resort stay, you would have 8 days to use your 3-day tickets. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
What if you don't have a resort stay with Disney then?

Nothing about planning a Disney trip is EASY. They are welcome to do whatever they want with pricing...they run the company, but to claim this is the "best experience" and an "easier way to plan" and "simplifies the booking experience" and is "ENHANCING" something...is A COMPLETE LIE.

The ONLY true statement in the whole thing is this:
  • Introducing date-based tickets and pricing will allow us to better distribute attendance throughout the year

Honestly, as long as schools keep cracking down on attendance, it is getting harder for anyone with kids in school to travel outside of school breaks. (I am a teacher and have even taken off/pulled my son out before, but now our district has tightened their attendance policies.) So, as long as people with school age children keep going to disney, there is not a surefire way to "better distribute attendance". Pricing can't force people to go during cheaper times if their children can't take the absences. I'd love to go in February or mid September, or some other non-school time, but it just isn't feasible anymore.

From WDWNT:

Tickets related to a particular park will be retired as part of these changes, so there will be no more 1-day Magic Kingdom-only tickets offered. Everything is back to one price.

Under the new system, 1-Day base tickets are valid for admission on the specific start date selected. Multi-day tickets are valid for admission beginning on the start date selected and must be used within a limited time period, as indicated below:

Ticket Duration Valid Use Period
1-Day Ticket Only the start date selected
2-Day Ticket Any 2 days within 4 days beginning on the start date
3-Day Ticket Any 3 days within 5 days beginning on the start date
4-Day Ticket Any 4 days within 7 days beginning on the start date
5-Day Ticket Any 5 days within 8 days beginning on the start date
6-Day Ticket Any 6 days within 9 days beginning on the start date
7-Day Ticket Any 7 days within 10 days beginning on the start date
8-Day Ticket Any 8 days within 12 days beginning on the start date
9-Day Ticket Any 9 days within 13 days beginning on the start date
10-Day Ticket Any 10 days within 14 days beginning on the start date
