Okay, so we extended the Disney portion by one night and had to allow for the increase in cost for that and then I shuffled some things around and planned out what I'm calling the "dream" trip. The cost is quite high.

I'm not sure we can get anywhere near that. So, there are some essentials and then some things that can be cut if necessary. I basically have seven full months to find a way to fund the dream trip and the cuts will happen in July if it looks unrealistic.

But for the next three months, I'm going to go at it full tilt to see what I can achieve before giving that any serious thought.

Anyway...at the moment, I need to focus on the most important budget "chunks" which are the cruise package and the Disney package. The cruise money needs to be paid in full by June 14th and Disney by the beginning of July. I need $2400 CAD (roughly) in the Disney account and around $2000 in the cruise account. My goal is to get that cruise portion funded by the beginning of April. Disney will obviously take longer....but I'm still noodling around some ideas on how I am going to set this up. It may be a bit of a work in progress. At the moment, I'm just going to amalgamate the totals and let it go at that for now.

Now...one thing I'm doing differently this time is saving funds in two separate bank accounts. The vacation account will house the main money for the trip, but I've been putting my own personal spend money each month towards our vacations for many, many years now and I've decided to track it separately this time. If for some reason we don't do the Disney portion of the trip, my money is going to revert back to me...and it's tougher to do that when it's all been factored straight in. In a way it sounds kind of greedy...but I don't love cruising the way the others do...so I'm willing to fund Disney with my own dollars but not anything else. DH has contributed his spending money to our vacations in the past but didn't for our East Coast trip and won't be doing it for this one either. I have no problem with that, but have decided that I can put a proviso on my own contributions if he is able to withhold his altogether.

As a very rough base estimate...I think we're going to need about $4000 CAD. Perhaps even $4500, depending on exactly what is going to happen during the Disney portion, and what the exchange rate will be like when it comes time to pay up. So, the goal is $4000 at present, and we'll adjust as necessary in the future when the details are nailed down.

Hello, new to the forums (but still an obsessive planner haha) this thread is so interesting to me! How did you find out about these various accounts you're saving in? Are they all rewards programs? How do you tell if a rewards program is a scam or not?

Welcome to the DIS and welcome to my thread!

Basically, I found out about these accounts through trial and error and a bit of online research. Other people on the budget boards suggest things they are doing to earn\save for Disney and I would go and check them out and see if they were good for me. Most of the time the people on here are going to suggest legitimate ways to earn/save money, so the risk of scam for stuff you hear about on the DIS is pretty minimum. Always check though...LOL And then you just have to look into them to see if they are going to be a good earner for your own personal situation. For example, ebates is not a good fit for me because I don't shop online too much. And I couldn't do a few because I'm not American and they are USA specific (ibotta for example).

So, let me break it down for you...

quickrewards and isay are survey sites that I have been doing for years and years. The payout is not huge and I'm not always able to qualify for sometime daily, but I do check each day and try to make a little something. It all add up eventually and is worth that little bit of (nearly) daily effort.

Obviously my credit card rewards build up from using my card to pay for things. I have certain bills charged to it each month, and I use it for all my gasoline and groceries and other odds and sods that I buy throughout the month. I can use the rewards towards my groceries at Loblaws affiliated stores (where I do the bulk of my shopping), and then I take the amount I cash in for those groceries and toss that into the vacation account.

Zweet, Caddle and Checkout51 are cash back apps that I have on my phone. If I happen to buy something that is featured on the app, I upload a photo of my receipt and they credit my account the corresponding amount (usually between $0.25 and $1.50 per item). I can cash out once I reach/surpass the $20 threshold. I don't go out of my way to buy things I don't want or need just because I can get cash back, so these don't accrue terribly quickly, but again....every little bit counts, and over time the totals climb. These offers change/refresh every week, so I usually make a little bit each shopping day.

The vacation jar is just a can actually that we have in the kitchen and when we have change we toss it in there. Occasionally I roll it and deposit it in the bank. And then there are two savings accounts at the bank...one for vacations in general and one that is Disney specific. And finally, my paypal account is where I transfer my quickreward earnings when I cash them in.

I get about halfway done then kicked off. So that's not really my cup of tea. But I do tend to shop (Walmart, Bealls, Target, Kroger, etc.). Question I have, though, is about the Zweet, Caddie and Checkout51. Can you use all 3 of them on the same receipts? I already use Walmart's saving's catcher and was curious if I could put it in there then put it in the other sites. Thanks for your help.

As far as I know...you can! I have put something into both Caddle and Checkout 51 once or twice before and I was paid out for both of them.
