INTRODUCTION
Meet popular Toy Story characters Buzz, Woody, Jessie and Bullseye, and others at Al's Toy Barn located behind Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano.

ATTRACTION

AL'S TOY BARN -- Toy Story characters are stationed in Al's Toy Barn, a facade replica of the red barn from the animated motion picture Toy Story 2, from about 10:15 a.m. through 1:45 and then 4:15 until about 5:15 p.m. They will sign autographs and pose for photographs, but don't expect these characters to talk -- they are all costumed, as opposed to being "Face" characters. Occasionally the Green Army Men will also make an appearance in their truck.

INTRODUCTION

Pass under the archway located to the right of the Chinese Theater, make a left, walk past Pixar Place, and there you'll find the home of the 25-minute Studio Backlot Tour. Shuttles take you behind the scenes of a real, working studio and through Catastrophe Canyon for a special effects treat, recreating some intense natural disasters.

ATTRACTION

Pre-Show - While you wait for your tour to begin, overhead monitors show a video on behind-the-scenes special effects and interviews from several recent action/adventure films.

Backlot Tour - After being ushered into an outdoor viewing area, guests learn how battles and storms at sea are simulated using large water tanks and pyrotechnics. Several guests may be chosen from the audience to participate in these scenes - but raincoats are provided!

From there, your group boards a long, 200-seat tram that winds its way through many backstage areas, beginning with the wardrobe and props departments. The tram continues on to Catastrophe Canyon, where a make-believe crew is allegedly filming a flash flood sequence.

Special effects, including flaming explosions and a rickety bridge, give guests a taste of what such a catastrophe would feel like, before the tram moves on to the Streets of America area and the tour's conclusion.

You exit the tram into the exhibits of the American Film Institute Showcase.

The American Film Institute (AFI) Showcase - This area features themed exhibits relating to special effects in cinema. The current exhibit, Villains, The Characters You Love to Hate, has been updated as of May 2008 to feature costumes and props relating to some of the most famous movie bad guys, including Davy Jones of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Darth Vader from Star Wars, and King Miraz from the new Narnia movie, Prince Caspian.

INTERESTING FACTS

The Streets of America area is home to the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights during the holiday season.

The buildings representing New York, San Francisco, London and other cities are merely facades constructed of fiberglass and Styrofoam.

Forced perspective is used to make the faux Empire State Building appear taller than the four stories it is.

Walt Disney World has 2.5 million garments, making its wardrobe the largest working wardrobe in the world. More than 100 designers produce the costumes for Disney productions.

Some of the vehicles that you see in the "Boneyard" section of the tour were used in the Indiana Jones movies.

INTRODUCTION

This interactive kids' playground, located just off New York Street on the far right, is home to larger-than-life props from the hit movie. Scale super-sized anthills and spider webs, crawl in and around a can of Play-Do or slide down an abandoned film canister, and dodge the drips from the biggest leaky Super Soaker you've ever seen!

ATTRACTION

Basically a place for kids to blow off some steam and cool off, this play area features some intriguing props from the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids movie. The flooring is a spongy mat-like material to prevent bad bumps while the children can attack a variety of physical challenges amidst 30 foot tall blades of "grass":

Large, chattering ants that you can ride on
Convoluted anthills and mazes to explore and hide in
A spider web/maze with climbing ropes
A slide made to look like a canister of Kodak film
A giant sniffing dog nose that sprays mist

INTERESTING FACTS

The Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure opened at the Disney's Hollywood Studios on December 17, 1990.

The blades of grass in this playground are 30 feet tall.

The soft play surface used throughout this play area is also used in the Animal Kingdom's play area The Boneyard in DinoLand.

References to the "Honey, I Shrunk…" movie trilogy can also be found in Epcot's Honey, I Shrunk the Audience and Journey into Your Imagination attractions.

TOURING TIPS

The Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure is for children 4 years and older. Smaller adults may be able to move around in the tunnels and slides, but the areas really are scaled for children.
There's a map at the entrance of the playground to help you figure out just which areas you want to explore!

Be sure not to miss the sniffing dog's nose! But beware - he also snorts!

There's no time limit at this attraction - the hardest part may be coaxing your child out of the play area!

Don't panic if you exit the playground and you can't find your stroller! The Cast Members often have to move strollers and relocate them at this attraction. Just ask a CM where your stroller might be.

This attraction is wheelchair/ECV accessible, but would be very difficult to navigate.

INTRODUCTION

The Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show is in the Street backlot area. It is patterned after a show that is currently running at Disneyland Paris.

ATTRACTION

Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show -- You walk into the open-air theater and find your seat on metal, stadium-style bleachers that overlook a Mediterranean village-themed set.

The premise of "Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show" centers around the filming of a spy thriller, with production crew members, stunt managers and a director and assistant director on the "live" set. Using a Tinseltown trick known as shooting "out-of-sequence," the director sets up the different stunts for the audience. After each scene is "filmed," the director then combines the shots to create the completed scene that is played on a giant video wall for the audience.

Featuring high-flying, gravity-defying automobile, motorcycle and high-speed watercraft stunts, the turbo-powered stage show immerses park guests in the thrill-a-minute world of big-budget movie stunts.

A cast of more than 50 thrills audiences with pulse-pounding chases featuring automobiles, motorcycles and watercraft. Customized and modified, these vehicles are piloted by a group of trained drivers throughout the show.

The arena for "Lights, Motors, Action!" -- a 177,000-square-foot facility featuring a Mediterranean village set -- is one of Disney World's largest "stages," allowing stunt drivers to include high-speed spins, two-wheeled driving, jumps, pyrotechnic explosions, high falls and plenty of surprises created just as they are performed for the silver screen. The 5,000-seat stadium allows guests to see every inch of the non-stop action.

INTERESTING FACTS

--Construction on the stunt arena began in February 2003. It features a Mediterranean village façade, stunt ramps, pyrotechnic equipment and a man-made canal.

--The arena for "Lights, Motors, Action!" is a 177,000-square-foot facility.

--The cars are equipped with a 1,300 cc, 150-horsepower motor built inside a custom racing chassis.

--Show cars weigh just 600 kilograms (approximately 1,322 pounds) and consume one liter (approximately one quart) of fuel per show. The cars weigh less than half what a standard production car does. (An average mid-size car weighs approximately 3,500 pounds.)

--"Herbie," the loveable "car star" from several Disney films, also makes a special cameo appearance.

--Vehicles are designated by color so the audience will always know which is the "hero" vehicle and which is the "chase" vehicle.

--In addition to four forward speeds, the cars are equipped with a custom-designed transmission gearbox that also allows four reverse speeds. This enables the cars to go as fast in reverse gears as they do in forward gears.

-- Design components in the cars include the latest in safety and technology. Among the features: a NASCAR-style fire-suppression system, speed sensors and an on-board computer that assists drivers with maintaining proper speeds for precision stunt jumps.

-- On-stage pyrotechnics during the show include fireballs that billow 40 feet in diameter.

--Drivers wear the same driving suits as professional racecar drivers.

-- Guests aboard the Disney's Hollywood Studios Backlot Tour can sometimes get a glimpse of "Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show." The recently redesigned backlot tram tour route passes right by the stunt show arena.
