If the stateroom next to you has people smoking on the verandah, call guest services and they will help.I am frustrated smoking is allowed on Fantasy. How can I be guaranteed not to be placed by smokers who try to use balcony in cabins to smoke?
This happened to us a number of years ago. We smelt smoke on the first day from someone on a verandah, called guest services and we never smelt it again. We gave them an idea of where it was and it was quickly handled. There is only one place on the ship where smoking is allowed. That said, people often smoke on their verandahs. I would report it if you smell it and see if security has any luck finding the offender, because it is a serious safety issue. If I recall correctly, there has been at least one serious fire on another line from someone smoking on their verandah on a cruise.
I know many people really enjoy smoking, but the people who did on their verandahs make me wish Disney didn't allow any cigarettes or cigars onboard, because it can really put a damper on balcony use. I think my last cruise was the first where we never smelled any cigarette smoke while on the verandah, so hopefully it's getting better.
Ugh. I had that problem on Carnival. You pretty much had to pass through the smoky casino, or take a completely roundabout route.I’ve never had issues on DCL
Princess on the other hand where smoking was allowed in the casino and you had no choice but to pass by it in order to get to the theater

That was our issue on Royal Caribbean. We booked last minute, didn’t really pick our cabin carefully, and when going to dinner had a choice of walking through the smoky casino or going up a flight, walking through the shopping area, and then down a flight. Yuck!Ugh. I had that problem on Carnival. You pretty much had to pass through the smoky casino, or take a completely roundabout route.
If I remember correctly smoking used to be permitted on the DCL Verandas up until 2013/14. There were even ashtrays mounted on the dividers. That could be why some "occasional cruisers" think it's still permitted.Just as it seems amazing to us today that not that long ago people were allowed to smoke on airplanes, one day it will seem amazing that people were ever permitted to smoke on cruise ships.
Anecdotally, in 14 cruises, all in veranda staterooms, I have never had a problem with smelling smoke on the veranda.I'm just curious, how much of an issue is this? (people smoking on their verandas) I know any responses will be anecdotal, but I'm curious what experiences people have had. I would be fairly ticked off if I couldn't enjoy my veranda because of smoke (both my husband and I hate cigarette smoke and are very sensitive to it).

I can't remember every time or every ship. I know out of the 4 DCL cruises we have done, all in verandahs, we have had to close the door due to smoking at least 2-5 times. We use the balcony frequently, usually multiple times a day. We have experienced it on other cruise lines, but it seems that was longer ago. We have had issues at hotels too, particularly in Hawaii. However, I have to admit in the last 10 years it has massively improved, both in the states and in Europe. I am very sensitive to it and actually allergic. It often causes me to have a coughing fit.I'm just curious, how much of an issue is this?
