June 9th Part 2: Mama Melrose
Finally it was time for my Toy Story Mania FP!
I had some practice during my solo trip to Disneyland in May so I didn't do too badly considering I didn't have Steve to help me get the secret screens or anything. My personal favorite game is the ring toss. I am really good at those. I am pretty bad at the bullseyes at the end, LOL.
I was best in vehicle! #GoMe #Solo
I still had a bit of time until my late late lunch at Mama Melrose so I thought some Starbucks and some shopping was in order.
My sister has been looking for a pair of rose gold Mickey stud earrings. I couldn't find any at DHS but i found some which were silver, and gold, just not rose gold. I tried to find them in the Shop Parks app but to no avail.
She was almost going to settle and let me buy the silver ones for her but I told her to wait until the end of my trip and maybe I would be able to find them at some point or else I'd just get her these. I still had 2 more days left!
Also I found this shirt funny. Whenever we come back from Disney my dad always tells us: "No more Fantasy for you, it's back to Reality!"
I actually have the other version of this shirt - the one that is more like a boyfriend t-shirt. This one was more fitted and long, like a shift dress.
Since I didn't get pictures of Star Wars characters I decided to change my shirt. But of course you can't see it in the picture below. #picturefail
Finally it was time for my much-anticipated lunch at Mama Melrose! I walked over and checked in, and waited about 15 minutes, which is probably a little longer than I thought I should have waited considering it wasn't crowded at all inside.
The ice water station was very much welcome. I had never been inside of Mama Melrose before, but it was exactly like I pictured it to be: old school Italian but with a hint of Hollywood!
Finally I was called and was seated inside the restaurant.
I like the twinkling lights! It's like someone forgot to take down the Christmas decorations and just left them up. Forever.
My server came over and asked what I'd like to drink. I looked at the menu and decided on something refreshing: a Grapefruit and Lime spritzer. I was also brought some bread with some olive oil with herbs which was poured table side.
I liked the bread which was warm, but my drink was a bit odd. I like grapefruit and I like lime but I think together it created a flavor which I thought was a bit bland. It's like they cancel each other out. So weird. But it was fine since I was thirsty and just wanted to drink something.
To start I got the Mixed Green Salad with fresh Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Artichoke Hearts, Feta Cheese, and Red Wine-Oregano Vinaigrette.
I really enjoyed this salad! It had all things yummy and was great as a light starter for a hot day. Of course being solo, it was a giant portion for me but I ate it all anyways. Steve and I would have probably shared this as an appetizer.
I had to wait a while before my entree was served, so I recorded some vlogs which you'll see at the end of my TR or just head over to Instagram to view it.
I realized since it was so dark inside that I could turn on the LED lights on my ears! Yup it lights up. The ears were made from LED wire which is so bendy that I had to keep manipulating them to keep them in symmetric circles, oftentimes I was not too successful and they just look egg-shaped.
Finally my entree was served. Behold the Charred Strip Steak accompanied by Four-Cheese Macaroni with Pancetta, Aged Balsamic-Shallot Butter, and Chianti Wine Reduction.
Yum this was as good as it looked!! The mac and cheese was creamy and delicious was a subtle cheese flavor, not that sharp overpowering cheese. The steak was nicely charred with a great crust, plus that balsamic shallot butter and red wine sauce was the perfect complements. The steak was also cooked a nice medium rare, and was tender. It's not like a super-fancy steak but it was a solid hunk of meat. I really enjoyed this entree and I ate the whole thing!! Wow was I so full after!
I could not fathom ordering dessert so I just asked for the check which took a long time to come as my server disappeared for a while. Oh well, it's not like I was in a hurry or anything. I used my AP discount and was able to get 10% off.
Thanks Mama Melrose for a great meal! It was my first time there but it won't be my last. In fact I have it booked for Sept so that Steve and my sister Chunkysis could try it out too. I know Steve would enjoy it as it's a new place to try in DHS, and my sister loves old-school Italian pasta (she's probably the pickiest eater in my family) so I think this would be a good place for her.
Now I was ready to hop to Epcot!!
I forgot I got some PP pics so here's one from DHS. I didn't take that many just because I wasn't really paying attention if they were there or not!
Ah now you can see my shirt. I have smoke coming out of my head too. I declare this the best magic shot of all, LOL.
I really wish that damn Express Bus Transport was still around because park-hopping the regular way is pretty dismal. The friendship boats were not running this weekend because of some construction or maintenance etc. so there were buses instead. I had to walk way into the parking lot of DHS to grab the bus to Epcot and of course it was packed.
On the way I passed the soon-to-be skyliner station:
Bah:
Look at that line! But the nice thing was that the bus was THERE WAITING when I arrived and I was able to get on, like literally the last person they would allow on the bus. Thank you Bus Gods!
And before long, I arrived at my favorite park!
Amazingly I was able to make same day FP for Soarin' so that's where I was headed to first!
Coming up...my Epcot afternoon, an ice cream delight, getting lost, and my room at Saratoga Springs.
