This is Us- Season six

I enjoyed the episode and thought Mandy Moore did an incredible job. Unfortunately as someone who has lived through having family members with Alzheimer's sadly it doesn't usually go that way with the affected person rationally letting everyone know to live their lives. On another note, I fear something bad happens to Malik...notice he never texted Deja and it doesn't appear he is with her at the house in the final ending...wondering if he has some sort of tragic accident.
Don’t forget Randall told him to stay away. This might be part of the distance starting.

I agree with so much of what y’all have said:

Kate’s outfit was horrible

Beth is awesome

That fight between Kate and her mother resolved too fast. I was surprised her father was so friendly with Jack given how he’s treated him in the past.

What in the heck is a sugar/butter pie? Is that a real thing? I have the world’s worst sweet tooth, and that doesn’t sound good to me.

I knew that Rebecca was going to pick Kate as Miguel’s backup. My best friend and I say it always seems to be the eldest daughter who has to do things. And I do think Miguel dies before Rebecca.

I also figured it would be her, but more because Randall and Kevin tend to land on opposite extremes, and Kate can drag them both toward the middle a bit.

"A Sugar Pie has a single crust and is filled with a mixture of butter, flour, milk, eggs and brown sugar. When it bakes the filling turns into a caramel-like mixture. It’s originally from western European countries and popularized in the U.S. by the Amish. Sometimes the Old Fashioned Sugar Pie Recipe is referred to as ‘desperation pie’ because it could be made with ingredients that would always be on hand ‘on the farm’ much like the Buttermilk Pie, Vinegar Pie or Chess Pie."

I love Buttermilk Pie. One of my favorites. To me it tastes like creme brulee in pie form.

Loved last night episode minus Kate micromanagement of Toby around the kids. Kevin shouldn't take sides in fights.
I didn’t think Kate was micromanaging Toby last night. Toby wanted everything done his way, but he isn’t around to know the routines. Also, I understand his concerns about Jack’s diet, but he came out swinging without even knowing what the usual diet is. A lick of sugar and some marshmallow on the sweet potatoes on a holiday doesn’t mean he’s not normally eating nutritious foods. Also, instead of realizing that he didn’t know the strategies for handling his children’s behavior, he immediately puts it on Kate for giving Jack sugar and snarking that she should come show him instead of telling him. She was being hands off there until Toby threw his tantrum.

I feel for Toby. I've said it before I'm sure, but my husband traveled for work with the same routine as Toby Monday-Thursday every week. It's very common with tech jobs. He flew out to the bay area every week and took an enormous load of guilt with him every time he left. This was from birth to about 8 years old in our son's life. It would have been very easy for me to blame him and lash out but the fact was I had the easier job staying home with the kiddo and working part time- just like Kate. Anyone that thinks the life of a "road warrior" (as they call the tech guys who traveled to the bay area home office each week) is easy has no idea the emotional and physical toll it takes on them.

Kate is and has always been selfish. End of. I can hardly watch her scenes anymore.

I feel for both of them. I can't imagine leaving my kid for half the week, but I'm sure being basically a single parent for half the week isn't easy either.

They were in a position where that hard road was not their only choice, though. (Kevin would have helped them so Toby had more time to find something closer.) I think they chose the wrong option for their family (not that it would be wrong for everyone!)

I feel for Toby, too, but he needs to trust Kate’s judgment if he’s going to be away so much. The kids are at an age that they need to stay on routine. Once they’re a bit older they will understand that things run differently when dad is home. But he can’t come in and decide that naps don’t matter. He can’t criticize the babysitter Kate chose or the way she feeds the kids without first discussing it to find out what she’s actually doing. Yes, he’s exhausted and guilty. She’s exhausted and is set in a routine. It’s not a matter of who “has it worse” or who is being selfish; it is a problem with communication, and they both need to take responsibility for that.

I definitely don't agree that Kate has the "easier" job...not at all. Sure, she may not have thecsame guilt that Toby may feel, but Toby doesn't have the physical or emotional day to day responsibilities, balancing. Toby isn't the one dealing with the kids behavior changes or hurt feelings when 1 parent leaves and all the back and forth etc.

I'm not saying Toby has it easy either; it's a tough situation...but FOR ALL.

Kate has plenty of family around to lighten the load, as it has been her entire life. Toby's out there trying to support the family while also dealing with his own psychological issues 100% on his own. But, I do agree it'a tough situation for all involved. I just have had it with Kate.

It's what we call "just pie". 😍

Count me in as another one who thinks the secret ingredient is love as well

I know there is a lot of Kate-hate in this thread (and sometimes she bugs me so much) but this episode had me yelling at the screen whenever Toby opened his mouth :headache: When Kevin told him to take off the hat I repeated it slowly....Take. Off. The. Hat. TOBY

Oh younger Kevin....so self destructive.

Oh, gosh, I hope not! I really like him. :-(

Yeah, it felt a little ominous when she mentioned he did not text her back, but Randall did tell him to back off. Sometimes these little clues turn into something and sometimes they are nothing.

Truthfully? They should’ve moved to a halfway point between the Bay Area and LA. Close enough to Toby’s job and close enough to Rebecca and Kevin. I know that is a HUGE stretch of land and doctors for Hailey alone on top of specialists for Jack would’ve been insanely difficult to find, and Kate would’ve needed a new job (which I’m sure Phillip could’ve helped transfer her or something), but to me that would’ve been a far better compromise. Still difficult but not like this.

Also I hope we see Kate and Toby’s neighbor played by Timothy Omundson again. It would be nice to see him and Dr. K and William somehow before the end of the series.
