What to wear?

I've asked this over on Trip Advisor and apparently I'm not asking the right question or using the correct words so thought I would try over here.

We are going to LV in September. I've heard tennis shoes are a must for walking around but I've heard that they won't cut it at night in some places. We are 50+ and are not interested in the club scene. We might though like to go to a bar that has outdoor seating (if there is one) and people watch.

My DH will probably wear jeans all day w/tennis shoes. I'll imagine I'll wear capris (maybe jean material) and a blouse with tennis shoes.

We are not planning on taking dress (church) clothes. I might take a pair of khaki pants and loafers, plus a pair of Keen sandals.

So, where will we be welcome in the evenings in our daytime attire? I know not to even try the upscale restaurants or club scene. I know out on the street would be okay. How about in the casinos? Or places like Marguaritaville?

Hi! Ok I am around same age, so heres my take on the dress in Vegas- Basically you can wear whatever you want, If your wearing an evening gown, no one will blink, if you wearing shorts & flip flops no one cares.. I go EXREMELY casual- the most dressy thing I usually bring are sundresses, which I wear with flip flops - we DO NOT do clubs- I think most people over the age of 40 don't - if you were going to a club I would not know how to tell you to dress unless you were under 35 and I would say the shorter the better dress & highest heals you can find! haha. Maragrettaville is EXREMELY casual, but if you wanted to get dressed up, no one would look twice at you- believe me, there are so many weird things in VEGAS the last thing people are looking at is your shoes! haha- & I have gone to some pretty nice places to eat (e.g. The Range, Neros etc) all wearing very casual (not sloppy, but casual)

Feel free to ask any questions you like, love talking about Vegas!!!!

Thanks! My husband and I are not fancy dress people and don't go to upscale places because we don't desire too. I have just read comments over on TA about dress and was a little concerned about what to wear in the evenings. I'm not sure what we'll do on the two nights we are in LV but it won't be spent in an upscale restaurant or a club. We'll want to be out and about. Neither of us have been to a casino and wasn't sure what would be appropriate wear at night, if it changed, etc. Not that they would throw us out, they'll want our money but we do want to feel comfortable in our surroundings.

Totally agree! The dressest I want to be on vacation is flip flops! You will see in Vegas, really anything goes & as long as your not sloppy you will be able to go into most resturants, just bring a sundress & you probably won't wear it unless you want to- pm me if you have any other questions & I'll give you my email :)

Basically you can wear whatever you want.

I think that would be the rule.

Some people use it as a reason to dress up, some to lay back. Other than a few places which is sounds like the OP is avoiding there is no dress code. I've only noticed people overall being dressed a little fancier in the evening as people get ready to go to clubs.

But clothing for walking, sun and heat, and possibly cool evening breezes or rain is all you need.

In reality for September there is almost no chance of rain. But the month is transitional so early in the month won't need a jacket, in the end a light jacket may be helpful.

Just thought I'd chime in. I'm not sure when in September you are coming here but do keep in mind it can still be very hot (100's) even later in the month so keep that in mind. Otherwise what others have said works, if you aren't going to a club or a really nice resturant you should be fine in casual attire even on the Strip. Dress for comfort and you will be fine.

I just may take you up on that.

skiingfast and leash, thank you for the reassurance. This is the first destination I been to that I wasn't sure how many types of clothing to bring. We're going towards the end of September. If it's still hot, that's okay, we're in the upper 90's to 100 here now and will be for the next couple of months.

I just may take you up on that.
.

Look forward to it! Made many friend on this board :) have a blast in Vegas!! Don't over think the clothes - I use the "rule of thumb" if my husband is required to wear a jacket we don't go! & honestly I have been in some pretty nice places, once you've gone you will see, go casual- you'll be fine! Believe me your casual sound like my dressy!!

The clothes you describe would be just fine at the places you intend to visit.

Have a good time in L.V.

:thumbsup2 Yes, OP, Pat is VERY knowledgeable and helpful about Vegas!! Definitely take her up on her offer for advice!
OP, we had fun dressing up in Vegas, but as everyone else has said, you can wear whatever you want! I wouldn't wear jeans with holes or things like that, but it doesn't sound like you guys plan to look messy, just casual! Have a great time-- you don't need to gamble a ton or go to clubs to have fun in Vegas!

Hi Kylie! OP, Kylie & I became friends on this board too! Yep it's fun to get dressed up in Vegas! & I have a strong like for ripped jean & you would be surprised where I have gone wearing those!! :)

I think that if we were in the 20 to 30 something crowd, we would be more inclined to dress up. Now that I'm in my 50's, I like being comfortable. Joe works for himself and wears jeans and t-shirts every day. He doesn't like to dress up but will occasionally wear dress slacks to church. Which reminds me that we will have to make sure and buy him some new jeans before our trip. His work ones will have stains all over them. We've got time but our trip will be here before we know it.

I am shocked at how expensive ripped jeans are at the mall. Definitely a fashion statement.

I know! There has been times my husband has said 'you've paid what for THOSE?' hahaha but I love um! Wrinkled & ripped is my thing

You'll be fine.As PPs have noted other than the upscale clubs/restaurants
the dress code is relaxed. We have worn the same type of clothes out to eat in Vegas including the several Wolfgang Puck restaurants and Mon Ami Gabi in Paris (eat outside and you can see the Bellagio water show). The only one we dressed up for (which for us was business casual) was Emeril's in MGM.

We did the same at Emeril's (I wore a shirt with a collar and slacks), before seeing Cirque du Soleil's "KA". The food is excellent!

How is KA? Thinking of seeing that this visit, but to be perfectly honest, I'm so done with the Cirque shows- someone told me this one is "so different" is it really?? I feel like they are all basically the same only the music and costumes are diff. Is it worth the $$ (expensive show)

In Las Vegas, I've seen Mystere, O, KA and Beatles Love. KA is my favorite and I've seen it three times.

KA is very different from the typical Cirque du Soleil show. Without giving anything away, it has a "wow" factor that other shows don't.

Woody

OVO is the only Cirque show we've seen. We saw it earlier this year when it came through the area. Have you seen it? If so, how does it compare to KA?

If you are looking for looking for a show, let me HIGHLY recommend Jersey Boys- the best show I've EVER seen, and my husband (who actually sounds a lot like yours!) LOVED it, and he doesn't like anything- HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend- only reason I'm even looking into KA is because I've seen so many shows in Vegas I'm running out!! Normally I avoid the Cirque shows, because I feel like they are all the same- if you are not set on a Cirque go to Jersey Boys, I promise you will not be disappointed.
