We're going to start a club - way more than half of my posts are on this thread too!

The six year molars they get are permanent teeth, so are the 12 year molars. All the other teeth they get as babies come out and are replaced by permanent teeth. The ages when babies get teeth, and later lose them, vary widely -- my three girls have been on completely different schedules for getting and losing teeth. My 14 year old still has one molar (the 2 year old type) to lose, which is definitely on the late side, but nothing to worry about.

Okay so she has 3 more molars to lose, I think... if I'm reading this right?

Okay...my .02 cents' worth on the whole Orthodontist/braces thing.

Our dentist suggested starting my oldest with braces when she was about 12. She ended up having to wear her braces nearly two years longer than anticipated due to what we thought was the lack of maturity to take care of them properly. In other words, she broke them often, usually did not wear her rubber bands, etc.

When the dentist told us the same thing with DD#2 at that age, we said "Thanks, but no thanks". We waited until she was 15.....and she took the responsibility seriously and got them off with great results, on time.

We're now waiting until at least this coming summer, when DS turns 14, to start his.

All of my kids got their teeth late, lost their baby teeth late (in fact, DS just lost a tooth on Thursday!) and got their adult teeth late.

I do know that the orthodontist said that they like to start when kids are losing some of their teeth, because it gives them the opportunity to move the teeth around more easily in the mouth, and to anticipate future problems. But.....kids continue to grow past the age of 14 or so, and as we have seen with oldest daughter's dental work, her teeth moved enough after braces, that she could almost have the work done over again. I always advise people to wait as long as they possibly can, unless the child has severe dental problems...in other words, it's not just for cosmetic reasons.

Did I bore you all?? Sorry!

Thanks for posting that.
I know my mouth was a special "situation" considering I had to have some permanent teeth pulled too and an expander for the roof of my mouth and all that. But I did wonder how others were getting braces so early and if Ruby was really THAT far behind on losing teeth. It makes sense, what you said, about waiting (if possible) until they lose the teeth because of the added bonus of them being more mature and responsible with them.
I also had to do some rethinking (yes, it's been many years, so forgive me!) and I'm probably remembering the wrong age. I think the baby teeth started getting pulled early but now after thinking about it, I DO remember that the last adult teeth pulled before braces were pulled right when I had to register for highschool (freshman). I remember cause I had to go up there and register for classes, before school started, with my mouth all full of gauze from the teeth being pulled (because of the bleeding ofcourse). Maybe I was trying to FORGET that memory...
I would have just turned 14, the end of July a couple weeks before that. So I didn't have braces before age 14... but I had started the process of having baby teeth then permanent teeth pulled before the braces, before age 14.

And then had braces all thru highschool until near the end of senior year I had top/bottom retainers.

What verandahman said about the retainers is true. I really didn't mess with the top retainer for long (after graduating/going to college/turning 18) for long at all.... the bottoms I had no choice and in fact they stayed there longer than they had to because I procrastinated about getting them removed. LOL

Ruby's top teeth really don't look crooked... but the bottoms do.
Now my son is a different story..unless things change later on he's definitely going to need braces on top. His bottom teeth are perfectly straight- but his top teeth it's like the 2 top teeth to the sides of the middle top front teeth stick out instead of straight across or tilted back in the shape of the mouth to the sides.. which is why those teeth are prone to slicing open his inner upper lip if he gets hit there by anything (basketball/etc.) *sigh*
It doesn't help that the next teeth next to those top teeth are TEENSY TEENSY almost not even THERE! baby teeth.... he had the tiniest baby teeth and now the hugest permanent teeth. It's almost comical the difference in sizes. LOL

I got no picture to post....

what??????

You better hurry up and a** it or I am gonna tell on you.......do you like great whites???????

The ONLY WAY I'm going to get my DH to do a vow renewal is through stealth - hence we now have the "Stealth Vow Renewal Ceremony"!

Ahhhh......

I get it now. Remember ... I was the one who proposed without a ring and failed to ask her Dad for her hand in advance...

Okay so she has 3 more molars to lose, I think... if I'm reading this right?

Yes, I think what you are describing is that one of her 2 year molars came out, so she would have three to go . . .

I agree totally with the idea of waiting as long as possible to start orthodontic work. I can't tell you how many of my girls' friends started wearing braces early (some as early as 4th grade) and then later had to have another entire series to correct the "overcorrection." It works out monetarily very well for the orthodontist to suggest starting early, but not so well for the parents . . .

So we get this FRANTIC phone call from our old neighbors across the street on Sunday. "There are people in your house!" huh? We (finally) got an offer on our house, made a counter offer and struck a deal! :yay: It's been on the market since late November. I shouldn't complain, other houses in our old neighborhood were on the market long before ours...and still are! :sad2: Closing is slated for Feb 28.

Anyway, the problem is that now that the house is under contract, NOBODY should be in there!! There shouldn't be any open houses and certainly no other real estate agents should be using the lockbox to get in! ***?!?! We had a $200 gas/electric bill for an EMPTY HOUSE last in December because some

So now I'm thinking "great, we got squatters or something" (it's happened to my dad). Call our realtor and she's not answering her cell phone :headache: Finally get ahold of her assistant and she knows NOTHING about anything....:headache: :headache: :furious: Meanwhile, our DFriend and neighbor--who is a one-woman Neighborhood Watch--is all set to call a SWAT team on these people!

Today I get a call from both the office manager at the real estate office and our relocation officer...
THEY CLOSED ON THE HOUSE EARLY!!!!!
:cheer2: :jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1: :cheer2:

Evidently the buyers and their bank were ready to go early and contacted Relocation and our realtor. :hyper2: But "early" was Feb 20...but since all the title reports were done and everything was clear, they decided to proceed even earlier (the moment the offer was accepted, Relocation "bought" the house from us) because there was no reason to wait! So what happened was our agent got a call from their agent wanting the keys to the house! Our agent didn't realize that the deal was done until they verified with the title company that yep, transaction is complete, title deed reissued and funding was done in 24 hours...it's a done deal!!!!! :yay:

:cool1: Congrats!:cool1:

Crockpots too! Oh, wait. I guess crockpots would have difficulty running.
So the plan is: Crockpots create a diversion. Bears run.
Groundhogs tell no tales.

Looks like someone else had a typo in their post!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

It was on purpose. I was trying to be a smart add.

Excellent! 15 nights of trading humorous (at least to us) comments.
Oh wait - 18 months AND 15 nights of trading comments!! I'm in!

What will be really bad is when we yell to eachother from 3 feet away just so all the other DISers can share in our ...um...humor.
