Just back from DVC tour- got some juicy tidbits (rumors)

I should think that if the Contemporary thing was just rumor, DVC would deny it outright. Maybe true or not but why keep it a secret if not true?

Hey all. We did the DVC tour at SSR last Thursday 9/13 (it worked, we bought in there same day........) :cool1:

Note, he did not confirm Contemporary Villas. He gave me the "....cannot confirm/deny" etc. I dunno. Personally, I would be surprised if Disney would put a DVC resort on the monorail loop. I think it will be family suites of some sort. This is just a hunch and I could be wrong.

Not sure how reliable this info is but thought I would pass it along.

Regards,

starting to think all DVC salespeople are ex-government employees; talk about plausible deniability. ;)

i'm keeping the faith for CRV!

welcome home:cheer2:

First of all, Welcome Home!
I thought I would pass on a few items that came up in discussion with the DVC rep.

New DVC resorts:

1. Disneyland for sure. He would not say near to which hotel but GC seems a no-brainer. He said the formal announcement was coming very soon
2. Hawaii. He did not say which island.
3. Mexican Riviera. He did not give a specific location but did say to look forward to synergies (his wording, not mine. I hate buzz-words) with Disney Cruise Line. I will go look up a list of which ports Disney Cruise stops at. My guess it would be one of those.
Personally, I think Disneyland and CRV are foregone conclusions -- which of course could be exactly why they won't happen! But if you go back to Icydog's post, onsite DVCs have been the moneymakers, and those two make sense to me.

I don't really see DVC as an attractive idea away from Disney theme parks, and I think their difficulties with VB and HHI illustrate that. As someone else has already pointed out, a particular place might be a great place to visit on DVC points -- but DVC has to SELL the contracts in those resorts. It's not the same thing at all.

In particular, I don't see any advantage in a Disney resort in such a hotly competitive location as Hawaii or the Mexican Riviera. It's not that those venues aren't attractive, but why would you want to buy DVC there instead of Marriott or some of the other premier timeshares?

With Mexico...what synergy??? People on cruises cruise. Unless you are going to have a cruise that drops you off at a resort for a couple of days and then picks you up -- which seems like a very questionable financial strategy -- what's the advantage of having a resort on your cruise itinerary? If they want cruise/DVC synergy, DVCs on the cruise ships themselves cost much less and offer much more of a fit.

One thing that has been overlooked in our speculation is the other Disneylands. To me, a DVC Hong Kong, or DVC Paris makes a LOT more sense than a DVC Maui. Paris, in particular, would seem like a natural considering the huge number of European visitors WDW gets.

However, since the area between AKL and AK was originally slated to contain Beastly Kingdommie, perhaps there is some future expansion concept that includes an AKL gate.:rolleyes1

That expansion concept came to my mind too! That would be kind of cool!

I don't know much about the timeshare business but it does make since to me that people who would buy there anyway (Marriott, etc) would see it as a "perk" that they could also go to WDW and maybe DL.....

I know CM's may not have the confirmation about CRV, but there's just too much evidence pointing to it being a DVC. Again, speculation and rumors. BUT - when we went to Contemporary two weeks ago and pulled up at valet, the valet said sorry - we can't valet you for free because there is no DVC here yet. DH says well, what are the building over there (pointing to the new construction) and the valets all say Disney is calling it an expansion but its common knowledge it is a DVC building. Then we went to Poly another night. DH pulled up and the valet said he would valet us free that night as courtesy since we're DVC members although since there is no DVC at Poly he is not supposed to. DH asks the guy well, when are they going to put DVC here at Poly? The valet says, they're building it right now at Contemporary and then the rumor is Poly will be the next one years down the line. The CRV is a sure thing, as far as I concerned. I need no more proof.

As for the Poly - I love rumors! Wouldn't that be fun???

I love that image, vonpluto. Notice the roads that are North of Kidani and look sort of like a goal post with an extra crossbar? What could the purpose of such roads be. Seems suggestive to me.:magnify: I would guess that it is WDW property?

Thanks for the rumors, Mr Man. It's been rather quiet around here lately.

I know this is very unlikely, but maybe the "synergy" that they are referring to could be a joint venture with another timeshare hotel.

...the biggest problem with that walking path is it goes 1 mile through swampland. Not exactly a pleasant walk, unless you like gators...
So, they dig a big ditch, dump in a pontoon boat, and hire a smart aleck driver with a pistol.

Once they finish the kidani village villas, it wouldn't be that far to go from the "top of the buffalo horn" end through the piney woods to the guitar shaped pond there behind rainforest cafe. It would be shorter than the canal to mgm. They could put those discover river boats to some use.

Vonpluto,

Thanks for the great overlay of the AKV expansion. If you do a mirror image of the villas, to assume another phase, would that bring the distance down quite a bit? It looks like Osceola parkway would get in the way, but with an "Eastern" wing on the building, it might be a managable walk. Obviously that doesn't change the distance for the guests staying in other buildings, but it might make the logistics a little better. Just a thought.

A very big ditch, a mile long and reinforced. Plus you need to supply the water to keep those boats afloat. They're forever having problems keeping the ferry system afloat at DTD during the dry seasons. And that accommodates guests at 3 resorts as well as DTD traffic that runs from 11am to midnight.

It's a nice idea, but someow I doubt the money-crunchers see it as a viable investment to the resort. After all, it is so much cheaper just to add more busses to the line.

But I am kinda biased. I passed on AKV ownersip because of its remoteness. I heard all the suggested ways to improve it from the Westway expansion to an easy walking path. None of it seemed half as probable as the saleman suggested. Not when you study the actual topography. AKV is a great themed destination, but I just don't see it ever offering the proximity bonuses of the EPCOT, DTD or MK areas. It would cost far too much with too little return.

Heres my 2 cents....DVC GrandCalifornia already being worked on. They are clearing the land and announcement coming hopefully tomorrow. The Permits are already autherized for time share for DL.

The Mexican riviera is most likely related to the DCL...talk on that is that the Magic will soon be staying here closer it gets to the new ships arrivals. As you know DCL is out here in Ca. this coming summer.

Hawaii could also be where the ship may sail. Although there is such a high demand for a time share for DVC in Hawaii and they have been talking about big things happening with more DVC properties.Only time will tell us.

Look for talk tomorrow on DVC/GCH on the boards tomorrow. The announcement is possibly being made at 12pm.

If there is an announcement tomorrow, will DVC email the announcement to members? Do they normally do that?

I believe the remoteness you feel has to do with the theming of the resort. After all, AKV/AKl is right next to one of Disney's 4 theme parks. I'm also thinking that some day (can't say when) the area around Animal Kingdom will be developed and even more attractive than it is today.

In the past? Nope.

Regarding the walking path from AKV to DAK, in my mind the acid test is this: What does Disney have to gain by doing it? I don't see any particularly obvious gains, to be honest.

AKV will sell-out with or without a walking path. Some may argue that demand for the AKL cash rooms would increase, but given the long distance I don't see that as a given. Bus service could not be discontinued so there is no savings in that regard.

The most likely scenario, IMO, would be if Disney has plans for more enhancements in that area.

The Lodge has been open for 5+ years now, often struggling to fill the massive structure, yet they didn't decide to try a walking path. I can't see them reconfiguring DAK backstage areas, building and protecting (add guest traffic to a secluded area and it's a security liability waiting to happen) a 1+ mile path just as a warm fuzzy for DVC members.

UNLESS . . . now, I know that this is a real stretch of the imagination, but I did a cruise once with Princess Cruises. It was a real neat special. It included two nights in Acapulco and then boarding the cruise ship to Hawaii where we stayed three nights in Hawaii.

Again, a stretch of the imagination perhaps, but if Disney positioned a DVC in Mexico and Hawaii and sailed between locations, there would be some who would want a pre or post cruise as well as a cruise on DCL.

Nothing's impossible . . . :cool2:

No, the remoteness I feel is solely about where I can walk to from an AKL/AKV room. And that is: the room hallways, lobby, pool, savannah overlook and 2 restaurants on the ground floor.

Hey Mr. Man...we are almost neighbors here in the Houston suburbs...

Anyway, when we bought in February we were told that the next location was most likely Hawaii so I beleive that will happen. GCV will be announced tomorrow but I am still highly doubtful about CRV.

Howdy Ang,

Nice turn in the weather here in Houston. I actually didn't break a sweat at work until 9am today. :lmao:

I am a ways off from adding any contracts from DVC (still gotta break this 1st one in). Gotta say, that if Mexico DVC does hit, I am there. We have a TS in Cabo and love it. But it just isn't Disney.
