Hey all. We did the DVC tour at SSR last Thursday 9/13 (it worked, we bought in there same day........)
Note, he did not confirm Contemporary Villas. He gave me the "....cannot confirm/deny" etc. I dunno. Personally, I would be surprised if Disney would put a DVC resort on the monorail loop. I think it will be family suites of some sort. This is just a hunch and I could be wrong.
Not sure how reliable this info is but thought I would pass it along.
Regards,
First of all, Welcome Home!Hey all. We did the DVC tour at SSR last Thursday 9/13 (it worked, we bought in there same day........)
Personally, I think Disneyland and CRV are foregone conclusions -- which of course could be exactly why they won't happen! But if you go back to Icydog's post, onsite DVCs have been the moneymakers, and those two make sense to me.I thought I would pass on a few items that came up in discussion with the DVC rep.
New DVC resorts:
1. Disneyland for sure. He would not say near to which hotel but GC seems a no-brainer. He said the formal announcement was coming very soon
2. Hawaii. He did not say which island.
3. Mexican Riviera. He did not give a specific location but did say to look forward to synergies (his wording, not mine. I hate buzz-words) with Disney Cruise Line. I will go look up a list of which ports Disney Cruise stops at. My guess it would be one of those.
That expansion concept came to my mind too! That would be kind of cool!snip
However, since the area between AKL and AK was originally slated to contain Beastly Kingdommie, perhaps there is some future expansion concept that includes an AKL gate.
In particular, I don't see any advantage in a Disney resort in such a hotly competitive location as Hawaii or the Mexican Riviera. It's not that those venues aren't attractive, but why would you want to buy DVC there instead of Marriott or some of the other premier timeshares?
With Mexico...what synergy??? People on cruises cruise. Unless you are going to have a cruise that drops you off at a resort for a couple of days and then picks you up -- which seems like a very questionable financial strategy -- what's the advantage of having a resort on your cruise itinerary? If they want cruise/DVC synergy, DVCs on the cruise ships themselves cost much less and offer much more of a fit.
So, they dig a big ditch, dump in a pontoon boat, and hire a smart aleck driver with a pistol....the biggest problem with that walking path is it goes 1 mile through swampland. Not exactly a pleasant walk, unless you like gators...

A very big ditch, a mile long and reinforced. Plus you need to supply the water to keep those boats afloat. They're forever having problems keeping the ferry system afloat at DTD during the dry seasons. And that accommodates guests at 3 resorts as well as DTD traffic that runs from 11am to midnight.
It's a nice idea, but someow I doubt the money-crunchers see it as a viable investment to the resort. After all, it is so much cheaper just to add more busses to the line.
But I am kinda biased. I passed on AKV ownersip because of its remoteness. I heard all the suggested ways to improve it from the Westway expansion to an easy walking path. None of it seemed half as probable as the saleman suggested. Not when you study the actual topography. AKV is a great themed destination, but I just don't see it ever offering the proximity bonuses of the EPCOT, DTD or MK areas. It would cost far too much with too little return.
If there is an announcement tomorrow, will DVC email the announcement to members? Do they normally do that?

I believe the remoteness you feel has to do with the theming of the resort. After all, AKV/AKl is right next to one of Disney's 4 theme parks. I'm also thinking that some day (can't say when) the area around Animal Kingdom will be developed and even more attractive than it is today.
Hey Mr. Man...we are almost neighbors here in the Houston suburbs...
Anyway, when we bought in February we were told that the next location was most likely Hawaii so I beleive that will happen. GCV will be announced tomorrow but I am still highly doubtful about CRV.
