2006 DVC Member Cruise - SSMC06 - October 22, 2006

We're back! We got back late last night. John's back to work and Deanna's off to school.

We started our trip out at WDW staying at SSR. Our friends were doing WDW that weekend so we spent Friday with them at MGM. This is the first time in years that we spent a whole day at the parks. It was fun going through the park with someone who hadn't been there before.

Saturday we went over to the Port area and stayed at the CI&S. We met up with Cindy & Gary. They upgraded us to the kids bunk house rooms which was nice. We went to Grills for dinner and the kids loved watching the guys clean the fish. I kept my distance - the little bit of fish I do eat comes breaded and Mrs. Paul's makes it ;)

Sunday morning we were at the Port about 10:15 AM. We had to wait a little bit to board - I think we got on the ship about 11:30. The divider wall between Cindy's balcony and ours was open so we left it open and enjoyed having a double balcony. It was nice meeting with them in the morning standing on the balcony waiting for breakfast room service.

The rest of the cruise was fabulous! We really enjoy cruising with friends. Lots of drinks and lots of good food.

We stayed at AKV for 2 nights after the cruise. I have loved our stays at AKL the previous 2 times we were there so I know I really do like the resort, but I don't see us staying at the DVC units again until the new building is built. We had a Savannah 1 bdrm. Our room was one of the last rooms at the end of the hallway. We didn't get our room assingnment until 5:30 PM. The girl was telling John that DVC rooms aren't guaranteed until 5 PM. :confused3 It made me a bit more unhappy when housekeeping showed up at 9:15 wanting to know if we had left. I love the decor/theming of the rooms but as Cindy explained the bathrooms are not very well laid out for a family. The tubs are high and the sides are wide, there isn't the big glassed in shower like they show in the models. The shower is in the soaker tub which is slippery and so is the floor when getting out of the tub. They only have the one bath and the whole unit seems to be narrower than what the models are. The kitchen has a small wooden island that is movable but it doesn't have the counter with the barstools like the model shows. There's this huge hallway that divides the bath from the bedroom. I do like that the balconys are one complete balcony from the living room to the bedroom. Oh, our bathroom came with 13 bath towels, 2 wash cloths, 1 hand towel, no bath mat, no shampoo, no soaps and no privacy tag to put on the door (so housekeeping doesn't bother you on check out day). The kitchen was pretty well stocked and the dishes there have a pretty neat design on them.

All in all it was a great trip and my mind is already trying to come up with another trip.............soon!

Hey Gang!

I just wanted to thank everybody for all of the congratulations regarding Curt's promotion. I haven't been on the Boards since Matt and Julie's anniversary, so I never realized that Blondie "leaked" the news... :) I feel especially dippy now, since I posted on the CJ Group just today about his making Sergeant. Oh well.

Here's hoping that everyone is well. The next month or so is going to be insane with school and travel and holidays, so I doubt that I'll be checking in very often.

Happy Monday!

Karen - are you down here at WDW? If so I will keep my eyes open for you - I'm down here at OKW and staying in a GV with all the family this time! The lil' guy got to see the Castle today and Mickey and actually had a picture taken with Buzz! It's been a fun day and we're trying to figure out if we're trekking out again tonite.

I just wanted to take a minute to do a little mom bragging. My youngest son (26) proposed to his girl last night in front of the Castle after it lit up - it was such a surprising moment for her - her reaction at first was "no sh.." - after the shock wore off you couldn't take the smile off either of their faces! I will post picture when I get back home.

This seems to be a really special trip for you, Christopher's first trip, your sons engagement. How neat, a proposal in front of the castle. I love the lights they have on the castle.
 Congratulations to them

 Very neat, Mary! Congratulations to them.

If I had to do it over again, I would love to have a Disney wedding. Back when Gary & I got married, the idea never crossed our mind. Back then, they probably didn't even do Disney weddings like they do now -- and I'm fairly sure that we wouldn't have been able to bring Gary's daughter with us and she was the entire reason we had any type of a wedding at all, so that wouldn't have worked.

Maybe one of these days one of my son's will decide to have a Disney wedding --- and I can do the planning for them. Think their wife-to-be would mind? :rotfl2:

That's a great story. Congratulations!!

Disney weddings today aren't even like my Disney wedding just 5 years ago. They just started getting more popular when we got married I think and now there are just so many more options. Emma has already decided that she wants to sing in the Candlelight Processional (we went last night) and they told the CM at dinner that they both want to work at Epcot when they grow up. So I'm assuming there will be at least one Disney wedding in our future, that is if I even let them out of the house once they become teen agers.

I will pass along your congrats to them.

I saw Curt down here today - at the Member Mixer - it's funny, to me anyway, Christopher was getting his picture taken with Donald and Daisy and there was Curt snapping a pic of Donald. I got to go over and say a quick hello but I never did find Karen. I'm sure they're having a good time as the weather is a lot better than back home.
Anyway, it was nice to see some of my old friends again!

How Wonderful!!!
I can only imagine how cool that must have been to witness.

I Disney Wedding too would be very cool. After being able to attend Matt & Julie's wedding it makes me wish I could do it again.
Making some year down the road I'll see about a vow renewal.....:cloud9:

Wow, that's great! John will be happy to hear this.

Mary,

Great trip for you, your grandson's first trip and your son gets engaged!!! Congrats! Can't wait to see the pics!

Do any of my Northern Friends own the Mammoth Crocs? I'm betting Diana, Amy & Julie don't have much need for crocs with a lining in them. ;) They look like these:

I saw them in Dick's this morning while shopping with Cameron. If I had found them in my size in anything but red, I would be owning them right now. They have a lining in them which is nice and fuzzy and the holes in the bottom are not open like my regular crocs so feet would stay dry.

Gary's taking the kids to Cabela's after Walker's basketball game, so I've put my request in with him.

Our Christmas tree is up. :thumbsup2 Now it's time to get those presents wrapped. Walker is the only one semi-ready as he did his shopping at school and they wrap there for the kids.

Uh--it gets cold here. Just this week I think the low was 60!!! :lmao: The folks here all had their jackets on. :lmao:

I think they're really cute though.

When I told Ken about that, he said "That might be enough to convince me to go twice a year!" As wonderful as that would be, I'll believe when he says "Call MS!"

In reality, because of the nature of his business, he does need to check email often whenever we're on vacation, so this will be a real help. And I won't feel guilty about getting my disboard fix!:thumbsup2
