Gutted - flight price gone up again

Premium Economy with Miles and Money for late august is coming in very reasonably at the moment.

Just booked 24th August to 6th September for £807 per adult (and some miles but had loads anyway)

That's not too bad, I hope it is of some use to those who are struggling. :)

I've been to DLP lots of times and the service is terrible at times unacceptable from the CM's there. We have American friends who have been there and just been downright amazed at how they were treated. One of my fave things about FL and America in general is the (usually) outstanding customer service almost everywhere. The last time we went to DLP we spent more on the trip than we would of done to WDW the prices are really out of control. Of course it does not help the Euro is practically 1 for 1.

I agree that the customer service is generally amazing in the US. Personally, I've never had terrible service at DLP but I can see why it would look a bit rubbish compared to the lengths the Americans go to. We have to remember, though, that those working in the service industry in the US are more reliant on tips than the Europeans: I'm not excusing poor service, but it may go some way in explaining why there is a difference. I definitely agree with you about the prices. One does tend get so much more for their money in WDW, from hotels to food and even merchandise, to a degree. It's just a shame the flights are so pricey, especially at the moment. :sad2:

We was staying in the Presidential suite at one of the resorts and I had a number of things stolen from within our room which will always put a dark cloud over my experience.

I have vowed never to go again.

That's terrible, I hope you complained? It's a shame you've written it off completely but I can understand how you feel very negatively towards it now. :(

In DLP's defense I agree that in general customer service across Europe is poor-including the UK. America is head and shoulders above in customer satisfaction. It's not just limited to tipped positions where the customer service excel's. For example in Publix they pack your bags for you (normally without even asking) and do not expect anything at all. In fact officially they are not allowed to take tips but if they help us out the car and pack the car too we always give them a couple of dollars. We have been in Publix a few times where its been busy and had a manager come over to pack our bags for us :scared1:You just would not see that here in the UK.

However having said that I am surprised that Disney themselves let their CM's represent them in such a poor way. It should not be acceptable for CM's to be short or curt when asked a question about the park or anything for that matter. A few times I have had CM's tell me they do not speak english to help me when they clearly display the UK flag to indicate they do speak english. I apprieciate everyone has bad days but I am a stickler for bad attitudes should be left at the door not taken into work.

Hiya,

DLRP was fab for us - 4 of us , drive, ferry, Davy Crockett, inc tickets was £1500 for 5 nights over May half term..... Really enjoyed it.

WDW - we booked ours as a package with Virgin Holidays - as a matter of interest, looked to see what the fuss was about flight prices yesterday, looking at dates we have booked in Oct....... well, the flights alone came to DOUBLE THE PACKAGE PRICE we paid!!!!!! Our package includes flights, car hire (+ insurance), villa, tickets for Disney and Universal and 2 excursions all for 2 adults and 2 kids. And it was stating no availability for our actual return date (29th Oct- the Friday at the end of most UK half term breaks.) wow....

Unfortunately it isn't as good value as going to WDW but there are special offers on from time to time. I always book with Expedia because the prices on DLP's website are ridiculous!
Maybe that's where I've gone wrong. I always get internet and TA quotes. Maybe I'll have another bash when there's a special offer. :)

We made the mistake of making our first trip in the winter, if you're used to the heat of Florida, it somehow makes the shock of it being all different even more extreme because I've never felt cold like Paris cold!

We later had a week in August (last year) at Disney Land Paris staying in a villa instead of a Disney hotel and it was fantastic to the point of us now being Annual Passport holders so we can go back any time! The Annual ticket benefits are great in Paris as well, they've more than paid for themselves already.

I'll confess I prefer Florida but as I've said on the Paris part of the forum, I really think it depends where your first Disney Park memory is from. There are things to like about both of them and in Paris' favour is the 60 minute flight!!!

After our horrendous 6 nights in 2008, we spent 13 more nights in 2009 and loved it. That's compared to the 21 nights in Orlando though!

Ok Peeps

I still havent booked any flights and I am desperate.

So the choices I have are:

US Airways - Gatwick-Charlotte-Orlando for the 3 of us (me, DS16 and DD14) for £1775

or

Continental - Heathrow-Newark-Orlando for £1822

Looks like Continental have the better planes.... their in flight entertainment looks good.... Looks non existant on US Airways!!

However this price is still WAY over my budget!!

But I have to book something - I am so worried there will be no seats left at all if I leave it any longer.... My dates are 21st July - 10th August.

Any advice please!!

xx

You're talking a difference of around £50 to go with Continental. It is a long flight not to have entertainment you are happy with! How do flight times and connection times compare?

Flight times and connection times for both airlines are ok.... Would get into Orlando between 6pm and 7pm.

I would look to have 2 hr 30 mins layover, and with Continental there are a couple of planes within this time, so we could get bumped onto an earlier flight.

£607 per person though for indirect??????

I just dont know if I can hold out any longer....!!!

I feel like Im on DEAL OR NO DEAL!!!

xx

I have never flown with either of those airlines, but based on reviews on here and the good reports, I am considering Continental next year. I understand Newark to be a nicer airport to change and the option of possibly being bumped to an earlier flight is an added bonus. I do think it is expensive though. I know you are going in August but my flights through a flight inclusive package with VA, direct from Glasgow (including the £120 supplement per person) came out around the same price so I completely understand your hesitance to part with that amount of money on indirect. It's a tought one. It is easy for me to sit here and say I would hold off a while, but I dont honestly know that I would not be chomping at the bit ....

Hi,
Just to let you know we didn't book our flights with US Airways last year untill May, (we went in August), and the prices dropped even more after we booked!
We haven't booked our flights yet for this year, but are keeping an eye on them!

Re the US Airways entertainment: it looks like the A330-300 planes either have or are getting a video on-demand p@ssport system. Seatguru claims:

Every seat on this aircraft is equipped with the state-of-the-art P@ssport entertainment system. The system is fully interactive with audio and video on demand (11 Movies). Each passenger may start, pause, stop, fast forward, and rewind programs at any time. First Class and Envoy Class passengers have the additional feature of an adjustable arm and slightly larger 8.8 inch screen.

I'd check it out for yourself if it's important to you though :goodvibes

Sorry can't help finding a cheaper flight - I have been looking for your dates, but nothing brilliant is coming up - I think flights are generally quite expensive this year and July is an expensive month :confused3

Me again!

We had this on the way back, but not on the way there last year. (Silly me didn't even think of checking) We did fly out via Philly, and back via Charlotte though, so I don't know if it's the route that defines the entertainment or the plane:confused3.
Oh, and the other thing to budget for is earphones at $5 each

I have booked people!!!:banana::banana:

I just couldnt wait any longer, and because my dates were set (11 nights booked on I Drive and 9 nights in WDW) I didnt want to lose out on a flight altogether.

I booked with US Airways yesterday at £590 each for the 3 of us..... and I checked flight prices today and they are now £693 for the same flights!

I have gone way over budget, but hey I'm happy that I've got the dates I want and the flight times are good. Now I must NOT check prices again!!!

So flights booked, and ADRs booked!

Now just planning planning planning!!!

xx

Well done Lorraine.
It's such a relief to get it booked, is'nt it. We too had to pay way over our budget but now our flight prices have risen even more, so I comfort myself by thinking about what I saved rather than what I could have saved. So you've saved over £300 overnight.

I have booked people!!!:banana::banana:
Now I must NOT check prices again!!!

I bet you do though!
Congratulations - FWIW I think you have made the right choice with the market the way it is at the moment and that dates you're travelling...
