My god, some people are so cheap. If you can afford to go to WDW you can afford a drink.
Its sad that people have to behave that way!

It baffles me how people find the time to enjoy their own vacation while paying attention to everyone elses actions.
Well, I for one am not going to sit here and pretend I don't notice my surroundings when I'm out in public. Trust me, it doesn't take away from enjoyment of whatever I'm doing .
Yes, drinks cost restaurants next to nothing, so that makes being stingy okay? Alright then LOL.
It certainly doesn't make it ok, but it also doesn't have to make it any concern of anyone else's (except the restaurant management), at least not to the extent of the irritation it seems to give some people. A shake of the head, a whispered "can you believe the nerve of some people?" and a tiny little short but sweet smug feeling are all it deserves, and then life returns to normal.
Hey....... if the Disney resort I want to stay in has empty rooms, it won't cost them anything if I just break in and stay there for free on my next trip, right?
Man, maybe I can that new ticker sooner than I thought!
This has nothing to do with the high cost of soda. The number of people who do this is but a marginally fractional percentage. The reason for the high cost of soda is corporate greed and making up for losses (i.e. not enough profit) on other things -- soda actually costs the purveyor pennies, and they charge 1000% (I'm not kidding you, my DH has done accounting for restaurants) of their cost. The actual cost of the soda swipers' actions is the price you all pay in the high blood pressure you get from jumping on your high horse and galloping away.

This is my first post on this thread, but had to post as this comment was uncalled for IMO. Some people do pay attention to others around them for a variety of reasons. Our family pays attention to those around us as we've had two kidnappings at gunpoint in our family. One turned out "okay", the other ended in the worst possible way.
And the OP never said how they noticed it. It could have been they went up for a refill and noticed it as it was right in front of them. Is it not okay to post about such things without being told to mind your own business? I always have to roll my eyes when someone who is clearly breaking the rules and stealing (regardless of the cost of such soda) is viewed in more high regard by people like you than the person who follows the rules and casually posts about it on a forum like this.
If I had seen this, I would probably just point it out to my kids as a learning example. I'm not going to be the "Soda" police and report them. And No, it wouldn't give me high blood pressure, but I also don't condone such behavior and would be inclined to at least tell the story as well.
Off to gallup away on my high horse.
In your first post you mentioned people getting angry enough at this that it raises their blood pressure. Where do you get the idea that anyone is that angry?
Someone posted about it, but that doesn't really mean anything.
I really don't understand why people find it necessary to comment on threads like this with the attitude that noticing things in public makes you miserable/bitter/etc. Also, I find it hard to believe anyone goes anywhere in public with complete blinders on .

Isn't that what this post was? A "can you believe the nerve of some people?" whispered to the DIS?
You're wrong. It was actually an "I just got home from the hospital because of the heart attack I received upon viewing someone filling their mug for free" thread.

So going green is the new name for stealing?Honestly though for all anybody knows this family was trying to be "green" and said, "no thanks, we don't need any cups, we've got our own mugs" when they paid for their drinks.
Surely the members of this board aren't the only people in the world who are above trying to cop free soft drinks.
I see people getting "water" cups all the time, only to fill it with Coke at the drink station. There will ALWAYS be people trying to "get over" on the rules.
