Vancouver has tons of great places to eat. Here's a place that others probably won't meniton:

My favorite place to eat in Vancouver is Salt Tasting Room. It is 5 minute walk from Canada Place. Don't let the fact that it is located on Blood Alley scare you away. It is a really cool place. They only serve meat and cheese plates. So it is a little different but SUPER cool.

Also, you should consider doing breakfast or lunch at the Granville Island Public Market. They have several nice food stalls or you can make a great picnic meal to take with you. It is a hike from Canada Place but Granville Island is a must stop for us on every visit to Vancouver. You can easily spend a couple hours on the island. You can walk to the island, bike to the island along the sea wall, take a cab or take an aquabus across False Creek.

I hope you don't mind me asking in here but you clearly have the information I'm looking for (and just asked this in my cruise group - hi @anricat) so thanks in advance and help it helps the OP as well. We want to do Granville Island and the Market this next trip since we didn't get a chance on our first visit to Vancouver. We are staying at the Pan Pacific so what way would you suggest getting there? If we take a cab there, are there cabs readily available to head back to the Pan after we are finished? I just started researching the Aquabus but it's not near Canada Place correct? If not, how do we get to the location to take us to/from? I'm on the fence about using the HOHO as it's expensive and takes a long time and know that if the bus is full you are stuck waiting a bit of time for the next one and I don't like that. We don't mind taking the ferry or even a taxi but curious for the best suggestions as well as the easiest. We wouldn't want to walk that far or take the bikes (just being honest) as we want to save the time to see other things as well.

When I read there was a macaron place there I was sold (silly I know) and I think it's Bon Macaron and would love to pick up some other goodies while there.

I read there is a Macaron place downtown too. I think it is called Thierry chocolatier or something like that. It would be a little closer than Granville Island.

You have to give Tim Horton's a try. Great coffee and doughnuts.

I wasn't impressed with Tim Horton's. I'd really been looking forward to it when we stayed in Vancouver, but I found it's pretty much a basic coffee shop, and the doughnuts, IMO, aren't all that great. The sandwich I had was dry and the cost for the food was more than I felt the product warranted.

During our land tour in Alaska, our tour guide got Tim Horton's doughnut holes, and passed them out. Again, just your basic doughnut hole.

Sorry, I don't give it a recommendation.

I was looking at Flying Pig but in Yelp it has "no" in the "Good for Kids" category. What do you think?

My niece is 11 (she was the youngest), and she enjoyed her meal a lot. Some of the kids went with sides instead of a meal.

We took the city bus from Canada Place (as close as we could get a stop) and took it Granville Island. We then took a water taxi over to where the World Cup was being played and then walked by to Canada Place.

You will not have an issue getting a cab from Granville Island back to Canada Place. There are always numerous cabs on the island. It is about 10 to 15 minute ride depending on traffic.

We love Granville Island. Typically we stay around Canada Place because it provides such easy access to the majority of the city however, we have stayed on Granville Island before because we love the area so much.

The Aquabus dock at the Vancouver Aquatic Center is about 1.5 mile walk. That said, it is not an exciting walk.

If the weather is nice you could rent bikes right around the Vancouver Convention Center and back the Seawall around Stanley Park and then along English Bay Beach and Sunset Beach Park. Grab a Aquabus over to Granville (you can take your bikes with you on the ferry). Explore the island, get your macarons (I have had them, they are very good) and then reverse the trip but you will cut a across the front of Stanley Park making the return trip 75% less than the trip out.

Another great place to eat in Vancouver is Seasons in the Park. This restaurant is not located in downtown so you will need to take the Skytrain from Canada Place to the King Edward Station and then walk about 5 minutes. However it is well worth the trip. It is located in Queen Elizabeth Park and has KILLER downtown skyline views.

In 2011 we took the sea bus across to Lonsdale Quay Market ( http://lonsdalequay.com/ ) to meet some online friends who lived local. We ate at the market there. It was an easy walk from the Canada Place area to the sea bus station and was fun to go across to see a bit more of the area than just around Canada Place and Gastown. We did eat at the Old Spaghetti Factory which was good for us (my boys at the time were mostly about plain pasta so that worked) but it was also five years ago so things may have changed. If you do get into Gastown, be sure to see the Steam Clock.

I don't understand the Tim Horton's thing either. We've tried it a couple of times and I keep thinking "It's just doughnuts!" I think you have to be Canadian to understand.

A tip.... if you want a cab.... walk off the island first to be near the bus stop. Weekend congestion on the island can be very heavy.
