Brazil - the next likely pavilion

I just can't think of why'd they want to throw Brazil in there, now.

There's about 14 things that need to happen to EPCOT to get it up to par, IMO.

Adding a small new country pavilion is no where on that list.

But I guess when F&W dictates your operation, having a new spot to dole out drinks and food probably makes the most "sense".
Yeah I mean food/beverage is the main driver for world showcase and that's a lot of incentive on its own there.

I think there'd also be interest in any new country, and one from South America is different from what's there already.

Who knows their actual reasoning though

I am so excited (probably wrongly) for D23 announcements next week. Epcot is my favorite...ok, tied with AK...and I love that it is getting some action.

As far as countries, with there being 8 available plots according to that old map, I would like to see:

  • Russia
  • Greece
  • New Zealand
  • South Africa
  • India
  • Some Caribbean island
  • Somewhere from South America...not Brazil (but will take Brazil if that is what they are offering!)
  • Thailand

There are no longer 8 available plots.
Millennium Village (now World Showplace) took up a plot.
The rat ride in France will take up another plot.
They wasted a plot just recently with the Anna and Elsa meet and great area.

That leaves 5 plots that are currently buildable:
Between UK and IG
Between Morocco and Japan
Between Italy and Germany
2 plots between Germany and China

If Brazil is built that would leave 4 plots.
If the rumored Marry Poppins ride comes to the UK we can assume it would be built between current UK pavilion and IG.
That would leave space for only 3 additional countries.

I guess with the rumored rat ride, and possible england ride, they feel like having another pavilion will generate more revenue than filling in the empty buildings.

Or maybe we are getting everything.

We'll see what they say at the convention.

I'm with you though in that the empty pavilions in future world need work. It's really sad that a YouTuber I follow who does videos about abandoned buildings has 3ish in future world alone

Ha! I am good with 3, as well. Russia, India, Caribbean...

Totally will not happen but fun fact there's concept art out there of a potential whole other lagoon built behind the American pavilion for more countries. I don't even think they could do that anymore with all the build up around Epcot, but an interesting tidbit

If they did another European country I would like it to be Greece. But honestly, just re-imagining the Odyssey into a Greek restaurant would be good start. I would rather see Thailand/India just for the food reasons alone and India is a very untapped market for Disney. Also both countries would be more likely to be inclined to be involved in any pavilion because of the large and important tourism industries in both.

But that being said, I still would like to see some additions. I have seen multiple people state that there are two show buildings that sit empty behind Germany and Japan.

I also don't see it as too far fetched for a new country. I would hazard a guess that Japan, France, Norway, Germany and Italy are all in the top ten income per sq ft on property.

There is a large unused show building in Japan.

There is not an empty show building in Germany, just the space for one. They only built the queue building but not the show building itself.

India is a very untapped market for Disney.
I've started to see a few tour groups from India in the parks. At MK a couple weeks ago I saw only one huge Brazilian tour group, but I also saw a large Indian tour group. So if they are able to tap into that market we may see the ITG replace the BTG. Although the average age of the ITG was about double the average age of a typical BTG.

Due to the current political climate, I don't know how popular or welcomed of a pavilion Russia would be.

However, India would be great. They have so much culture and tradition it would be amazing to see how they could represent that, but since AK puts a lot of emphasis on Asia and Africa with Indian influence, I don't think we'd see it at Epcot too.

A Caribbean nation would be awesome as long as it's not the Bahamas or anything Spanish speaking. Maybe Jamaica since they have their own culture and even language - even Haiti would fit that bill and they could use an economic boost from tourism.

I'd like to see Greece come in. Again, own culture and language. I know Brazil fits the culture and language bill, but I think there's just so many better options out there.

Ok, I chuckled at the thought of them announcing that a new pavilion is coming and it will, literally, be called "Some Caribbean Island!" (I know that is not what you meant)

Oh, I agree about Russia - love the history, the food, the unknown-ness of it. But, with the climate - ouch, that would be a tough sell. I would love to see Russian foods and an ice-cold Vodka bar, though.

I am deep in some travelogue books about various Caribbean islands (currently reading about Anguilla) and I am just in love it all. The more laid back life, the weather, the history, the food.

Joe Rohde, among others, has stated that just because AK is heavily themed to Asia and African influences, it has no bearing on what could go into World Showcase.

Brazil seems like a no brainer at this point. I'd like to see New Zealand or Australia.

Brazil is kinda a no-brainer...if they are ever gonna expand...
- Great main course food, but food Americans now know...everyone has been to a Brazilian steakhouse once...and buffets enable peak Disney pricing...
- Great mass producable cart dessert (Brigadeiro) that will be wildly popular to American palates
- Great iconic liquor and cocktails (Caipirinha cocktail)
- Carnival Show possibilities - not everything can be a ride attraction, and that is a "showcase" show that could be in a big theater, ala HS and AK shows, and yet could be adjusted each year for very little cost
- The Rainforest - endless possibilities for rides or landscape
- Great natural and man-made national icons to build a really iconic nation "pavilion" (or whatever we call these Epcot nation footprints) - Iguazu Falls, Sambadrome (for the Carnival show location), Cathedral of Brasília, Christ the Redeemer, Montserrat Fort, Sugarloaf Mountain, etc
- The lack of South American nation representation in the World Showcase
