Hurricane Irma?

I'm in a very different situation than most people as we're staying in a villa in kissemme, this hurricane has me in full panic mode as we've never experienced anything like this and don't even know how to deal/prepare for something like this. We're flying to MCO from the UK on Thursday so we arrive before it.

So we are in a bit of a different spot than many of the people discussing it here. We are not scheduled to arrive in advance of Irma. Our main package does not begin until next Tuesday. We had planned to actually arrive the night before, but could easily dump that extra night with little to no impact to our plans. So what would folks here suggest for someone who is scheduled to be on the back end of this thing? Is it likely to be done and gone by Tuesday? Is it too soon to consider changing those plans? Or should we be going ahead and moving things?

Thanks.
We are flying into MCO on Monday morning, heading to the gulf beaches. I'm not changing plans yet. Due to our schedules, the earliest we could move it up to would be Sunday and that sounds worse than arriving on Monday at this point. I'm just waiting it out.

I really hope dvc has it in effect as well. We can't reschedule vacation weeks but are going to try to swap to Disneyland! So here's to hoping I get my points back.

We rented DVC points so we're waiting on the call on DVC as well.

Monday looks like a much better option of flying in versus Sunday.

I think by Monday night everything should be cleared to fly back in if Airports shut down.

Similar to our plans. We were supposed to fly from Philly into MCO on Sunday morning, then drive to the Sarasota area until Wednesday morning. Then we were going to drive up to Disney for a few days.

I just don't know what to do at this point. The latest models show the hurricane heading right up the center of FL, with WDW right in its path.

The best thing you can do is not panic.

Yeah, it cost less to fly into MCO and we're AP holders so we planned to spend the first and last days at Food & Wine. Just watching and waiting...

Only issue there is flights could be backed up from the priors days canceled flights.. just sucks all the way around..

Very true. Im hoping by tomorrow and the LATEST Thursday everyone can finalize their plans on when to fly in. Whether its Saturday - Monday or Tuesday.

Can I make a small suggestion, in case of power outage.....don't underestimate those glow sticks you threw in your suitcase for fun at the parks. Throw 4 or 5 in water bottle, it's gives off a surprising amount of light. At home, we put water in the bottle. Works great as a night light for grandkids.

175 mph winds have now been confirmed. Center of path shooting the gap towards south Florida.....ughhh. C'mon Canada cold front and push this beast out to sea!

There's no point panicking, although easier said than done. By the time you arrive on Thursday, we'll have a much better idea of where the storm is going to hit, and how much it will impact Central Florida (if it impacts the area at all). The main thing you'll need to do is get out and get supplies: water, batteries, non-perishable food items, etc, so that if a curfew is put in place and you can't leave your villa, you will be well stocked. If you're traveling with kids, make sure you have things for them to do that don't need electricity, in case the power goes out. Just keep an eye on things.

We are set to fly out tomorrow afternoon and fly home Sunday at 5:00. This is an anniversary trip just for the two of us. Our anniversary is on Friday. I have been following this thread since it started but DH doesn't want to hear about it. He just wants to go with the flow. I have a bunch of things booked that we have never done before like a wine tasting for food and wine, a massage at GF, keys to the kingdom tour , the dessert party and the DVC AK event. What are current projections for what day storm could hit Orlando. Trying to decide to either switch flights or make a hotel reservation for Sunday and maybe Monday night?

Are you in NOLA?
Yeah. Unpredictable forecast just reminds me of Katrina. I lived in BR for Katrina so we did ok. But, friends that we plan to evacuate to live close to Amite River in BR & flooded (just a little) last yr. That had always been our plan but not sure now.

We evacuated to BR for Katrina and never left, so the opposite! I'm actually outside of the flood area, so we aren't worried about that. Now these oak trees in my backyard make me very nervous I won't lie. Good luck!!
