Hurricane Irma Updates ***Check First Post for closures and more info***

Oh ok...

Those aren't going anywhere...

And if they did...would we care?

If they were gone wouldn't it spoil the sightlines viewed from certain angles in Epcot?

(lol)

And what's this about the hotels being closed for a year due to storm damage? I never heard of that.

Hurricane Charly blew some stucco/trim off several of the cheaper-looking high-rise hotels near I-4 and shattered a lot of billboards but I don't remember seeing any other damage in the WDW area except for some fallen pine trees.

Good question however Disney's Best Friends pet care closes today as well.

We're at the Beach Club for the storm and there are tons of pets here. Pretty sure Disney is allowing people under evacuation in the state to bring their pets. They had a pet parade/talent show in the lobby earlier today and it looks like at least one person brought their cat in a carrier.

The statues are gaudy...maybe not when they were designed in 1986...but Now?

I'm assuming damage will be minimal propertywide...as I said the other day: there's a reason they chose THAT swamp to build on...
So very curious, what are the benefits of that particular swamp?

Trees down seems to be the majority of the damage. The poly had some minimal roof damage to one building but nothing major.

I'm sure there was a great deal of tree damage, debris, and water displacement...

But the structures should have held...they were all designed to at least cat 3 standards...really ahead of their time.

The brilliance of wdw was always the planning/engineering that went into it...not character meets or fireworks viewing :duck:

certainly not trying to minimize what damage was caused but seems like the end result was much less than was feared on Friday or so - very thankful for that! (for WDW area but really all/most of Florida)

I found this from the Orlando Sentinel regarding I Drive and Universal

Power stayed on throughout the storm in many buildings along North International Drive. I-Drive itself was largely clear of debris. A few signs and awnings were ripped up, but there was no visible damage to major landmarks like the Coca-Cola Orlando Eye, or the towering Volcano Bay centerpiece.

Several light standards fell on Universal Boulevard near Universal Orlando Resort. There's debris almost everywhere on the roads.

Wooded areas along Interstate 4 were strewn with broken branches.

Hotel Plaza Boulevard had several trees down and workers were out there picking them up and putting them into a chipper.

An area of Vineland Road near the back entrance to Lowes Portofino Bay Resort was flooded with over a foot of water.

Watched as much as possible from the UK and this thing was really scary and still is to some communities with flooding and still a good amount of rain and wind whipping through Florida. Glad that so many stayed safe and the worst of it seems to be passed! We in Scotland complain about rain far too frequently. When we consider that we don't ever have to worry about Hurricanes and Tornadoes. You guys are made of strong stuff

So are the people taking refuge in the Disney Resorts paying full rack rates for their rooms or is there some type of provision for those escaping the Hurricane as opposed to regular guests?

Anyone?

Per a few sources from WDWMagic.com - mainly MagicFeather, Martin and Ghost with the most - expect MK and Epcot to open tomorrow - JC took a lot of damage, and may be closed a while, DAK has a ton of tree damage as well, and may open late, DHS also may open later.
