Do you think dogs should be allowed in guests' rooms?

Since there are no size restrictions ............ aka my 70lb dog is a very large child so should count towards occupancy ........ especially since if I brought her she would be sleeping in a bed.

Well I really hope the dogs count towards occupancy. I haven't seen any mention of it yet. Hopefully that will be listed as an official rule. Otherwise, people at maximum occupancy will complain and say, "well since my dog is really small and he's under the age of 3......:rolleyes1he should be allowed in our room."

I called. They can't move us because there's nothing available for our dates. They marked the reservation with the request to be away from dogs. That's all I can do. I plan to look into some off property options and then make up my mind on the reservation after reviewing those. so disappointed.

Forgive me, but that's practically the textbook definition of entitled.

en·ti·tled
inˈtīdld,enˈtīdld/
adjective
  1. believing oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.
Negative, I don't feel I should be getting any special privileges or treatment. Disney sets the rules and restrictions and I'm not trying to circumvent those in any way. I just don't care about the money someone else spent or how they are impacted. If Disney sets rules to allow pets in a room next to people that are allergic then that's not on me to knock on doors to let them know.

I like the idea. I won't be bringing my dog, because he is a barker so he gets to stay home. I would enjoy seeing other people's dogs while I was there. We've also stayed at a Universal hotel with no issues. I'm not sure I even saw any guests with pets while we were there. I just requested a room in the no pets section of the resort because DH is allergic to dogs (ours is a non dander dog so not a problem). It was not a big deal at all.

DH just got home from work. I mentioned this trial to him. His response..."They better get ready with some upgrades for guests put in a room above or adjacent to a yapping dog. This is going to blow up in their face".

He is not allergic (I am) but detests when our neighbor's dog barks every time we go out to our front porch. He also hates that she does not pick up after the dog. I have had to catch her on film allowing her dog to leave a pile in OUR lawn. HOA disallows but can't enforce without proof. We are supposed to check in 5 days after this trial ends. We really really wanted to stay at POR. Not sure what to do at this point. If they discontinue, fine. We'll request an allergy cleaning. If continued, I am at a loss. This is the only resort we want to stay at that we can afford.

There's no Disney "magic" or "pixie dust" in that!

I'm not a dog person, really, but I don't mind the idea of them. I definitely wouldn't want to stay in a "dog room" because dog smell tends to linger in places. But I don't think this idea is outrageous, and I can see how it would be awesome for dog owners who want to travel with their pets.

I only wish there were cat-friendly rooms so that I could being mine with me (but I know this would be more scandalous than even dogs due to allergies.)

Personally, I'd just avoid the dog resorts, but it is unfortunate for those already booked who can't move.

I wonder what they will do if the only room availability is a dog friendly room. Rooms are hard enough to get as is certain times of the year. As far as profits go, stocks are on the down side.

Who cares if they aren't allowed in certain areas. People will still bring their dogs to those areas and CMs won't say anything. Just like CMs don't say crap when people line cut or let their kids do inappropriate things. Someone WILL bring their dog to the pool or to a common area.

My dog is awesome and everyone will love him, whether they like it or not.

I know RPR over at Universal is dog friendly. It's a beautiful hotel, and despite four different stays, I've never seen a dog anywhere on the property.
Now, that being said, I am not a fan of the idea. I have two beautiful, boisterous, loving and wonderful Labradour Retirevers and I couldn't bring them. They would bark and bound out the door every time we opened it, they would need to be taken out to pee 100 times a day. Part of vacation is leaving them with our very competent and expensive pet sitter and knowing they are in good hands. They would be a nuisance at a hotel, and that's MY problem. It's certainly not the problem of other paying customers. Then again I don't let them stand in the yard and bark at home, and I've NEVER not picked up after them on a walk. NOT ONCE. NEVER. And I'd like to find the people that do that and kick them in the shin for making responsible pet owners look bad.

I guess this idea could work for certain dogs with certain personalities.. just not mine. And it seems like an unfair annoyance to put on other guests with the barking and mess.

I just received my email from Disney Destinations for our upcoming trip:

Thank you for choosing the Walt Disney World® Resort as your vacation destination!

So...Disney is literally going to the dogs!

This is really bad news and a very slippery slope! Just look at Ft Wilderness. A few years back dogs were confined to their loops. Then Disney put in the dog run to attract new people and encourage them to stay longer. $$$ At first they made an attempt to keep some areas pet-free. Then people began to bring their pets to areas where they are not allowed like in the stores and pool area. Disney Cast Members just look the other way rather than deal with negative issues all the time. $$$ So now the quality of the resort has taken a huge hit. People now bring multiple dogs and it shows. It also smells in that humid Florida air. Some people leave the poop on the ground. Last visit, we saw it on the sidewalk, in the loops, and in the grass. Just this week someone's dog got loose in the campground for 24 hours....The problems are dealt with very quietly because they take in so much money $$$ that nothing and no one else really matters. They really don't care if peoples vacations are ruined. They say it will be addressed and then just forget about it. Maybe after someone suffers a horrible dog bite and the news covers it broadly, MAYBE then they will give this plan up... but only if it costs them more $$$ money to keep it than to let it go. Shame on you $$$ Greedy $$$ Disney!

I guess what I don’t get is the outrage UNLESS you’re TRULY allergic. But other than that, we ALL spend thousands of dollars & some of us do that multiple times a yr every yr. There are PLENTY of things that I’ve encountered from other guests that I don’t prefer or agree with. There are also some policies at WDW that I don’t agree with or prefer. But that is everywhere that you’re exposed to other ppl. That’s just how life goes. But I choose to focus on those things that I like that make continuing to go worth it for us. Most ppl are describing seemingly slight annoyances that MAY occur. To me, THAT’S entitled b/c some ppl have pointed out that this new policy offers benefits for them so it’s not just about you or your family. I think WDW is making an effort to accommodate a variety of guests interests (even if it’s for the $). The way they have proposed to do this seems reasonable.

However, fwiw, I do think that it sucks that they did not give existing guests booked a sooner notice...although they do that kinda stuff all the time with rehabs & closures.

It's true. The CM's won't say crap about the crap. It will be the guests responsibility to complain to upper management at the resorts. That sucks.
