Do you think dogs should be allowed in guests' rooms?

Thanks for the response - I'm guessing an agility course is like a show or contest? I've only have mutts - good at chasing balls and such, but otherwise...it would make sense that you'd need papers and such with all the other dogs. The hotel thing is just something I hadn't considered. I guess it's like anything else and it varies, but interesting some require papers and some just some other type of proof.
Yes agility is a contest for dogs. Our are getting older so not so many contest anymore.

It worked out great for me. I had coincidentally booked a stay at Yacht Club for next month. When the pet thing was announced, I called and complained. I have pet allergies. They are moving me to Poly concierge for the week at no extra charge.

I'm so glad for you. There's a lesson to be learned here folks. If we stick together and are very vocal about this issue, Disney might just listen and reverse this Policy.

I am not anti-dog, but I am very seriously allergic to dogs. My eyes swell up, I get asthma attacks and a rash. I don't even have to be in the room with a dog for this to happen. Sitting on a sofa where a dog has recently sat can trigger an asthma attack. I can't imagine staying at a resort where I was likely to encounter a lot of dogs. I also think it would be awful for dogs to stay in hotel rooms all day while their families explore the parks. If the trial takes off, it will seriously limit my choice of resorts.

Okay, I'm re-reading the policies and I have a question about the last one that maybe people who have stayed at other pet friendly hotels (maybe Universal, etc.) could answer. "Up to date vaccinations records must be available upon request". I thought I had read at some point that people checking in with dogs would have to show vaccination records, but this is worded in a more vague and relaxed way. I never stayed with my dog at a pet friendly hotel, what is the standard practice for that kind of thing? Are people usually asked for records or just as needed? What's the norm?

If I have to provide to the kennel updated vaccination paperwork before I can leave them, I would hope the hotel would insist they be provided before you get your room. But sounds like other hotels are lax so guess add it to Disney's list of "whatever" .... But if there were an issue, and a dog ended up not being vaccinated properly Disney would have a dog in that fight because they didn't enforce their rules.

Do all of those resorts even have Minnie Vans yet? For some reason I thought out of the list of resorts that allowed animals that only YC had Minnie Van service as of now.

I think just deluxe .... right now ... but I imagine it will be resort wide eventually and since this is a year test.

Disney just might be fixing the issue with the too short announcement of the dog trial policy. I do think Disney should do what is called due diligence and see how the trial actually goes and what the affects are if this policy is made permanently at the trial resorts.

Maybe. But I think for now WDW is just acknowledging the bad PR of the sudden change. I don’t think it indicates they’re going to reverse the policy. Think they’ll expect moving forward that ppl won’t book stays at pet-friendly resorts if they don’t like it. Perhaps the family of 5 crowd might be able to get them to rethink POR, but I doubt they reverse the policy completely. I think it’ll depend mostly on if it’s porfitable or not.

I disagree with most of your comments but will address the last couple of erroneous sentences. You have no way of knowing anything about my experiences or those of the other posters here. My comments are representative of my knowledge and extensive personal experience at WDW; not speculation. And everyone here has a right to decide for themselves what's bad or not bad.....You don't get to decide that for us.
Respectfully that goes both ways. Someone bringing their dog with them on vacation gets to decide if that is good or bad for them with the new pet-friendly policy...you do not get to decide that for them.

Fun! So, I was pondering your earlier reply when I was putting my kids to bed. I would imagine that they require the health paperwork for dogs in these contests in order to protect the dogs, and I'm sure participants expect it to be well enforced. I understand that there are lots of pet friendly hotels, but I was really surprised to see the difference in the wording between Universal's policy and Disney's policy about vaccinations (and overall Disney's policies appear more lax). For people who are planning to bring their dogs to WDW, is it a concern that the vaccination policy seems so relaxed? I mentioned upthread that there's a lot of issues with dogs at my kids' former elementary school. Some people follow the letter of the "law", but not the spirit, and bring their dogs to wait on the sidewalk on the other side of the school's fence. They're all penned in because it's a busy street, so often there is aggression/fighting, and occasionally dogs get bitten. Besides it being against the rules, this was another reason I never brought my dog to pick up. So just thinking about it as there are a lot of dog lovers/owners on the thread, is that a concern?

I'm all for it. Just booked my trip in February w my 2 dogs. Can't wait.... I do, however, agree that Disney should have given more of a notice of the policy change.

Good points. I've been out of the dog game for a while, and we didn't kennel Mulligan - he always stayed with his Grammy! Just from a liability standpoint, I would think stuff like that would be enforced as it is at kennels.

Where are the fences? What is to stop children running across the grass?
Are there usually fences? I don't know how other hotels do it to be perfectly honest and I don't know if it would be comparable but I haven't seen a fence anywhere at parks that have these or apartment complexes that have these or anywhere else that allows dogs with the waste bag locations. This is just my experience however.

Really bad press has a way of snowballing. I think they've been taken by surprise at the enormous and vigorous negative response. I also think their watching closely and hoping to smooth it over with a few upgrades here and there. This new Pet Policy is not written in stone...If it's bad for business or tarnishes their reputation too much; it will be gone as quickly as it first appeared. Fingers crossed.

As a pet parent I feel better when I know the dogs mine are coming into contact with have been just as fully vaccinated as mine. We avoid dog parks as a general rule as I don't know how well the other pets are vaccinated which is a concern I am sure human parents share. I would like to see Disney enforce the "show me your vaccination papers" as kennels require paperwork when animals are in close quarters and can easily spread doggie flu, worms etc.

I would agree with you-it's much like when they decided to redo the CBR- people who had booked before the announced construction were reaccomidated to other resorts, but now if you book at CBR you can't complain about the construction and expected to be moved to another resort.

Thanks - definitely makes sense!

It simply doesn't matter because dogs can't read maps and if they happen to be in the Lobby with their owners when they need to go, that is where they will go. If they're in the rooms and need to go, then that will be the spot, etc.

I'm going to guess you've never had dogs or if you did you didn't properly train them. I've never had a dog or seen another dog just randomly go to the bathroom inside unless they are puppy. Most dogs would burst before going inside because they've been properly trained.

Are the people that are complaining about this policy going to boycott WDW?

Not me. I'm not a boycotter. I'm just a complainer. So while I'm pissed about this today, I will mellow with time, but I'll never be happy about it. Right now, I'll try to fight it with emails. In the meantime, I will most likely avoid staying at the pet friendly DW resorts. I will check out AofA when I stay at Pop next to see for myself what the situation is like. I will try to keep an open mind as I listen to other people's experiences. But I'm skeptical. We'll see....
